Madam Secretary Punches Lecherous Philippine President in the Face

Wazzup Pilipinas!

On a future episode (Season 3 Episode 15) of CBS TV series' Madam Secretary, the show featured the Secretary of State punching Datu Andrada, the lecherous President of Philippines, in the face.

Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) is shocked when the Philippines’ unconventional new president, Datu Andrada (Joel de la Fuente), makes a pass at her during their meeting to discuss his refusal to participate in an Asia-Pacific territory treaty. So she slaps him in the face!

The Philippine government is terrified of its own reflection, even in fiction!

I remember the defense of some ka-DDS (i.e., Mocha and Sass) about fiction as art. But now they attack Madam Secretary?

Well, the truth really hurts for many in the Philippines most especially for those pro-Duterte fanatics.

I wonder if Filipinos will be able to complain with a straight face that the fictional PH President in Madam Secretary is a sexual harasser.

Let me guess what comes next: Persona non grata for the cast ng Madam Secretary? Congressional hearing? Biblical quotes?

Madam Secretary should really edit the scene where the President was punched. I believe it should include a House Speaker, a PNP Chief, and some senators.

Piolo Pascual Is New Celebrity Endorser of Mega Sardines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Who doesn't know Piolo Pascual. The guy is seen almost everyday in the news, especially celebrity or showbiz shows, and he's always the face seen on many TV commercials, billboards, magazines, newspapers, etc., I've just seen him being announced as the new ambassador of the Optical Media Board (OMB), just one of his many advocacy movements, and it is without any doubt that he stands out among the other celebrities when it comes to good looks and talent. The guy is a real charmer that it is no surprise that many brands have gotten him as their brand ambassador or endorser.

Mega Global Corporation, a leading distributor of canned goods and ready-to-eat viands, recently penned its partnership with Kapamilya actor, Piolo Pascual, as Mega Sardines’ newest celebrity endorser.

While they just recently announced their collaboration with actress Liza Soberano as their brand ambassador for Mega Tuna, this is the only time I got to attend an actual contract signing as they officially welcome Piolo Pascual as their chosen face to endorse Mega Sardines.

Sardines is one of the most affordable and convenient food for most Filipinos since they could easily be bought almost everywhere - from the biggest grocery to the smallest "sari-sari" or variety store.

Mega Global Corporation has even made it more convenient with their Easy Open Can (EOC) that frees you from a can opener, and their products are also available in pouches. They started this with sardines making them the innovator, and many have followed their footsteps ever since even with other canned foods.

Senate Passes Expanded Maternity Leave Law, House Urged to Do the Same

Wazzup Pilipinas!

On Monday, in a vote of 22-0, the Senate passed on third and final reading a bill granting working women 120 days maternity leave and 150 days for solo mothers.

Senate Bill 1305 or the Expanded Maternity Leave Act, authored by Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros, seeks to revise Republic Act (RA) 1161 or the Social Security Act of 1997, which currently grants only a 60-day (for normal childbirth) to 78-day (for caesarean) maternity leave for women workers.

Hontiveros, who is the Chairperson of the Committee on Women, said that the last time the number of maternity leave was increased was 25 years ago or in 1992.

"Amid the current climate of misogyny and sexism, the passage of this important measure in the Senate is a clear triumph of women over antiquated thinking and policies," Hontiveros remarked.

"I would like thank Senators Nancy Binay, Loren Legarda, Juan Edgardo "Sonny" Angara, Francis Pangilinan, Manny Pacquiao, and Antonio Trillanes IV for helping me pass this landmark measure," Hontiveros said.

The Senator however said that the fight is far from over as the measure's counterpart bill in the House of Representatives has yet to be passed. DIWA Partylist Representative and House Women Committee Chair Emmeline Aglipay-Villar is leading the campaign for the passage of the Expanded Maternity Leave in Congress.

Prioritize expanded maternity leave bill, not death penalty

Hontiveros appealed to her congressional colleagues to reciprocate the action of the Senate. She said that the House leadership should prioritize the passage of the Expanded Maternity Leave bill rather than measures that seek to restore the death penalty.

"What the people need are policies that will radically improve their quality of life not laws that will bring death. What the people demand are adequate protections and safeguards that will lead to welfare enhancing outcomes at par with international standards," Hontiveros said.
