Here Comes G-Force Project Sembreak!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Students' much-awaited season all school year has finally arrived

Put on your dancing shoes and welcome this year's school break with G-Force Project Sembreak!

Now on its fourth year, Sembreak is one of the baby projects of G-Force Dance Company's artistic director Georcelle Dapat-Sy, more popularly known as Teacher Georcelle. Sembreak is an offshoot of the annual G-Force Project Summer Dance Workshop that began in 2008.

"We call on all dance enthusiasts, students and professionals alike, to be part of G-Force Project Sembreak. We guarantee, not only will you get to learn how to move and groove like G-force, you will definitely have fun and enjoy spending your break with us," says Teacher Georcelle.

G-Force managing director Angel Sy couldn't agree more. "We pride ourselves with G-Force Project Sembreak now more than ever. We now have a different venue for our recital and that should give off a different feel and a different experience to our students."

Divided into two batches, Sembreak Batch 1 is happening all Saturdays of September and October (September 5, 12, 19, 26 & October 3, 10, 17, 24); Batch 2 is set all Fridays and Saturdays of October (October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24). And just like G-Force Summer Dance Workshop that culminates into a showcase of talents, Sembreak will also have its own recital to be held at TriNoma Activity Center on October 30.

UP ACES Presents the National Civil Engineering Summit 2015

Wazzup Pilipinas!

School has just started, but it’s not too early for the University of the Philippines Association of Civil Engineering Students (UP ACES) to make some noise. This September, UP ACES will celebrate its 61st anniversary with its 10th installment of the renowned National Civil Engineering Summit (NCES), a two-week event that will gather over 5,000 participants from all over the country.

True to UP ACES’ tradition of organizing prestigious events, NCES kicks off on September 2 with Jumpstart –a thanksgiving mass and exhibit launch event, followed by a thanksgiving lunch for the entire College of Engineering.

Come September 5, high school students get to participate in InCEthink: Bridge Building Competition, as well as High School Career Talk (HSCT) and CE Laboratory Tour at the NISMED Auditorium and Melchor Hall, respectively. InCEthink will feature over 40 teams, each team competing to create the best and sturdiest bridge while applying their engineering knowledge, creativity, and teamwork. HSCT, on the other hand, aims to introduce the civil engineering field to high school students as early as now, through a series of talks from professional civil engineers. The ideas they will learn will then be reinforced in the CE Lab Tour, which will take the students on an interactive tour around the various facilities and equipment of the UP Institute of Civil Engineering.

On September 10 to 11, around 4,200 civil engineering students will listen to renowned speakers in the National Civil Engineering Symposium at the University Theater. This year, the Symposium will have the theme Cutting Edge: Streamlining Civil Engineering in an Advancing Nation. It will have four major talks relevant to the field of civil engineering and will be supplemented by one inspirational talk. Simultaneous with the Symposium are the CE Laboratory Tour, PROFILES, and the CE Job Fair. Designed to provide a more intimate environment for the exchange of ideas, PROFILES is the newest addition to NCES’ roster of events. It features successful UP ACES alumni engineers in a seminar that will give civil engineering students a better glimpse of real-life civil engineering and provide them with practical tips and advice. Meanwhile, the CE Job Fair allows participants to submit résumés to their prospective companies.

Singapore-Based Budget Airline Fuels Business Growth with NetSuite

Wazzup Pilipinas!

NetSuite Inc., the industry's leading provider of cloud-based financials / ERP and omnichannel software suites, today announced that Scoot, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has deployed NetSuite as its core financial management platform in a two-tier ERP model aligned with an on-premise SAP ERP application in place at the parent Singapore Airlines.

Scoot chose NetSuite after considering other major ERP solutions due to factors such as speed of implementation, low cost of ownership, real-time business intelligence and reporting, as well as the breadth and depth that NetSuite provides in financial reporting, multi-currency management and budgeting – all within one unified platform.

Since implementation, NetSuite has supported Scoot in its network growth across Asia and Australia, enabling Scoot to attain cost-efficiencies and speed to market. Business agility through NetSuite has been critical in helping Scoot drive its exponential business growth while expanding its network across 15 destinations in China, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Scoot views NetSuite as its core ERP solution in its plan to triple its fleet size over the next several years with 20 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to increase its presence in the medium and long-haul segment.

“As a startup, Scoot wanted a modern, agile business platform that could scale rapidly while ‘future-proofing’ our company for long-term innovation and growth,” said Ng Long Jian, Scoot Head of Finance. “We looked at other major and more established ERP, but NetSuite was the clear winner in meeting our requirements for cost-efficiency, fast deployment, real-time visibility into the business and flexibility. NetSuite is the perfect fit for Scoot to enable us to transform our business operations and support our growth.”

Philippine Azkals Preparing Hard for 3rd Match on September 8

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Azkals are working doubly hard as they try to seek their third win when they face Uzbekistan on September 8 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan, in the ongoing qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“We need all the support we can get because it’s a tough match," Azkals team manager Dan Palami said. "We need to work doubly hard to get a result against Uzbekistan."

Facing the top-ranked team in Group H, the Azkals hope to draw strength from home supporters as they seek their third victory in the competition.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Palami said the Azkals’ feat during their last two games was impressive and that they just need to keep up that high level of performance to score an upset against Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is gaining reputation among foreign football fans as a world-class sporting hub because of the ultramodern Philippine Sports Stadium where the Azkals’ home games for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are being held.

Football fans from countries that will be playing in the stadium will get a chance to view on their TV sets, laptop computers or mobile gadgets the stadium’s state-of-the-art facilities when their teams play with the Philippine Azkals.

“It will be a different viewing experience for fans not only here in the Philippines but also abroad,” Palami said.

Balikbayan Box: Stop Desecrating Our Personal Gifts to Our Loved Ones

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Balikbayan boxes are often channels of private and personal communication between migrant workers and their families in the Philippines. Is nothing sacred anymore for the Bureau of Customs?" - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago
There are many people that are so violently reacting about the "Balikbayan Boxes" issue which led the government to finally blink! You can't really win in a staring contest against a fog lamp! Now, President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III has told the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to stop the random inspection and “establish a more defined protocol” to clamp down “balikbayan” boxes that are being used for smuggling.

Remember that the government may have some evil entities (like those that can be found at the BOC and other agencies that have access to so many temptations), but many are still honest and hardworking (hopefully). Not all of them deserve a raised eyebrow when they implement something new.

The littlest effort that an agency does should positively be seen as a counter-measure against whatever negative acts like smuggling or anything similarly damaging to the people, the government and the country. Whether it affects the little or big players, it doesn't really matter since it is everyone's job to deter all kinds of illegal acts.

If we find the newly established procedure intimidating or desecrating, we have every right to let these agencies know, but we should not be accusing but only airing our belief and recommendations. Antagonizing the agency may only lead to further retaliation instead of cooperation.

Shapecloud: The Philippines’ First Online 3D Printing Service

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Shapecloud is the Philippines’ first online 3D printing service that makes the creation process easy for anyone with an idea! At its foundation, the platform allows users to upload their 3D designs, have them 3D printed, and delivered right to their doorstep.

3D printing starts by utilizing 3D designs, to serve as a guide for our 3D printers to precisely layer down heated plastic material, until a physical version of what you see on the design is built up! All over the world, people have used 3D printing for different industries, to create scale models of buildings, product prototypes, personalized gifts, and so much more. At Shapecloud, they take pride in being able to work with users to help them better understand how the technology can play a role in what they’re trying to accomplish.

Starting from the comforts of your own home or office, registering an account on www.shapecloud.ph is completely free. Users will immediately be able to see the “upload” button on the home page, and once they’ve uploaded their 3D design, an email will follow when feedback or an approved quotation has arrived! At this point, you might be thinking “What if I’m not familiar with 3D design?”. What’s interesting about this is that there are a multitude of ways to create or find 3D designs outside of using traditional software (i.e. AutoCad, SketchUp, SolidWorks, etc.), and on the “design guide” portion of our website, users will be able to have a list of easy to use apps, tips for 3D design, and also a collection of free file marketplaces. These marketplaces make it easy for anyone to search up pre-made designs that can be quite specific to your needs.
