Business Venture Turned Philanthropic Crusade To Help, Educate The Poor

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Helping people, the less fortunate, is natural for Filipinos, particularly those who have achieved their success from humble beginnings. Nilo S. Gret, a former Bank Executive and native of Tiaong, Quezon province, is one of those Filipinos. He pioneered the first technical school in Tiaong, Quezon, where it is helping local students pursue paying careers with TESDA backed certified training.

It started in 2008, when Nilowas approached during a social gathering by a closed business colleague from Tiaong, Quezon, who openly suggested to him the opportunity to be part of running this technical training school based in their hometown province. Nilo was hesitant at first, but with his educational background and working experience, he agreed to be a business partner of that school.

Nilo invested in what is now The Asian Institute of Technology and Education (AITE). "I decided to be part of that school (AITE) in the hope that it would be a vehicle for myself to help other young people get a better education locally, where most people would normally travel to Metro Manila to pursue a college degree," recalled NiloGret.

AMD Innovations to Deliver Leap in Performance and Power Efficiency Expected by Mid-Year in Notebooks and All-in-One Desktops

AMD (NASDAQ:A revealed at the prestigious International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) that the upcoming A-Series Accelerated Processing Unit (APU), codenamed “Carrizo”, for notebooks and low-power desktops will deliver a wealth of new, advanced power management technologies while achieving substantial performance through new “Excavator” x86 CPU cores and a new generation of AMD Radeon™ GPU cores. Using a true System-on-Chip (SoC) design, AMD expects Carrizo to reduce the power consumed by the x86 cores alone by 40 percent, while also providing substantial gains in CPU, graphics, and multimedia performance over the prior generation APU.

“As a part of our continued focus on building great products, the advanced power and performance optimizations we have designed into our upcoming ‘Carrizo’ APU will deliver the largest generational performance-per-watt gain ever for a mainstream AMD APU,” said Sam Naffziger, AMD Corporate Fellow and co-author of the AMD presentation at ISSCC. “There have been remarkable advances in performance and energy efficiency in computing since the birth of the modern microprocessor. However, the energy-related benefits that flow from new manufacturing processes have slowed, ushering in an era when alternative ways to improve processor performance and efficiency are needed. AMD has been pursuing Heterogeneous System Architecture (HSA) and proprietary power management technologies to make continued gains. The upcoming ’Carrizo’ APU takes a big step toward the AMD 25x20 energy efficiency goal and incorporates a wealth of new features that will be adopted across our full product line going forward.”

In the Name of Mobile Commerce

Wazzup Pilipinas!
In the Name of Mobile Commerce Lazada.com.ph unveils the Filipino purchase behaviour through mobile commerce.

Shopping online is certainly an efficient and effortless way of getting what you want, where you want it, and when you want it – or so most Filipinos think. But as the country’s biggest names in telecommunications strive towards improvement in providing mobile internet solutions – take the case of telco giants such as Smart - which just recently announced free internet to its subscribers, as well as Globe – which aggressively pushes its mobile internet bundles; it has become undeniable that M-Commerce (Mobile Commerce) has reached the Philippine shores in one way or another.

In a recent study made by the market research firm TNS, 53% of all respondents from Metro Manila already own a smartphone. For 2015, it is estimated that the Philippines will still witness a 22 percent year-on-year increase in smartphone adoption (as cited in the recent report of IDC) coupled 42 percent increase in the sales of smartphones (as cited in the recent report of GfK), thus making M-Commerce more and more viable and conducive amongst Filipinos.

Google has been working with hardware partners in shipping these devices in multiple countries around the world namely India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and now the Philippines.
