Museum Foundation Mounts Proudly MaArte 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Proudly MaArte 2014 promises to be an outstanding intersection of arts and crafts as it brings together carefully selected pieces exquisitely designed and executed by local Filipino artisans from all over the country.

Now on its 5th year, the MaARTe Artisan Fair is an annual fundraising project of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines (MFPI) and will be staged at the Rockwell Tent on August 29-31, Friday to Sunday, from 10am to 10pm. Craft items produced by entrepreneurs, NGOs, designers and craftsmen have been meticulously selected to provide the discerning MaARTe shopper a wide array of striking items ranging from indigenous baskets and fabrics, charming home decor to elegant fashion accessories and delicate jewelry from more than 50 participants. For limited edition items from designer ateliers and museum shops, MFPI has a special section dubbed as MaARTe Finds.

This yearly gathering of local artisans at the MaARTe Fair aims to support the creative industries, and has been a unique platform for the Museum Foundation as it continues to support the National Museum and its many activities. Dannie Alvarez, a long-time exhibitions curator in numerous museum exhibitions and design fairs, has joined the MaARTe organizing committee as creative director. He envisions this project as a showcase for “museum-quality crafts” that will provide the visitor a unique cultural shopping experience. Over the span of 3 days, The Rockwell Tent will be the perfect playground for those who enjoy draping and surrounding themselves with beautiful, vibrant and well-made pieces and aim to live life “may Arte”.

For this year, Security Bank and Smart Infinity lead the list of its partners. Corporate foundations have joined MaArte as well in presenting their community based efforts in assisting local artisans. The Museum Foundation of the Philippines will also include local food items under its banner, MaARTe Eats, which visitors can indulge in at the MaArte Lounge by Gree, and the MaARTe Café.

Lamudi is Most Visited Property Portal in the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Lamudi is officially the most visited property portal in the Philippines, with the website now the country’s number one real estate platform for traffic.

Lamudi Philippines has overtaken its competitors just six months after officially launching locally. Lamudi, the global property portal for the emerging markets, arrived in the Philippines in January.

Lamudi is now the Philippines’ leading online property portal in terms of visitors and traffic. Elsewhere in Asia, Lamudi is market leader in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar for number of online listings.

Co-founder and Managing Director of Lamudi Philippines, Jacqueline van den Ende, said: “Our early success in the Philippines just goes to show the huge demand that exists here for high-quality online property listings. An increasing number of Filipinos are looking for property to buy or rent online, and they are turning to Lamudi as their platform of choice.

After just a few months in operation in the region, Lamudi is now well on track to becoming Asia’s number one real estate marketplace.”

Clark Airport Opens Modern Passenger Wing; New LCC Terminal Proposed to Neda Next Month

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Playing a significant role in the country’s long-term airport strategy, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) and the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) are pouring investments into the Clark aerotropolis’ development, to prepare it as an international hub alongside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the Sangley airport for decades to come.

“We see Clark International Airport (CRK) as a premier gateway alongside NAIA and Sangley, especially in view of its rapid growth over the past few years, as well as government’s development plans for the entire economic zone and the rest of the region. This is the direction we are taking for presentation to the President, for his consideration,” remarked DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya.

“The airport’s passenger terminal building (PTB) was expanded last May, providing new and modernized facilities to better serve the public and boosting annual passenger capacity to around 4 million from the previous 2.5 million,” he said.

The P 417-Million improvement project increased the PTB’s size from 11,439 square meters to 19,799 square meters, and increased its check-in counters from 13 to 34. In order to accommodate more passengers and ease queuing, 12 departure counters and 5 arrival counters have also been added. The modernized portion of the terminal itself has 8 entry points and 3 customs stations. This allows CRK to expand its airport operations by accommodating more international flights from Qatar Airways and Emirates.

CRK’s expanded operations began last May, upon the completion of its Passenger Terminal Expansion Project (Phase II).

Anna Oposa: An Interview with the Chief Mermaid of Save Philippine Seas

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We were very fortunate to interview the Chief Mermaid of the Save Philippine Seas (SPS), Anna Oposa, who was a speaker in one of the events that Wazzup Pilipinas attended which had several social innovators as guests within its three days of learning and interacting with peers who share a common interest: to reach out to our fellow men as a response to social awareness.

Out of the hundreds who registered to be included on the list of attendees for the Dream Expo MNL, I was lucky enough to be one of the 200 chosen to get the opportunity to listen to esteemed speakers who already made a significant impact in society even at a very young age.

One of them was Anna Oposa who was quite remarkable on stage especially with the way she played with words during her presentation. She really commanded attention from the audience.

Below are the questions we presented to her, along with the corresponding answers:

Social Experiments: When Blind Items Become Too Factual - It Hurts!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We've asked it before, and we will ask it again. It hurts, right?

Don't go running to your friends to ask for sympathy. Karma is really a bitch! Too bad it is destined to go around trying its best to ultimately balance everything. But when you react to blind items thinking that it was referring to you, then your guilt just made you admit to your own faults.

We know life can be cruel sometimes. But the world does not revolve around you alone. We may be referring to somebody else, or like you said, this may be just another one of our social experiments. We are a happy bunch of retards aimed to rule the world. We are your friendly neighborhood politicians. The people loved us so much that they keep voting for us.

Now you know what it feels like being talked about. We've been bullied before. We know it stings so much we could almost puke. Spit and shit blood!

We did say we were willing to take a beating from all of the issues thrown at us - the resilient race. But please do not flatter yourself too much believing you're the star in our show. Unfortunately, there are just too many people like you who lack the courtesy to just keep to themselves. You cannot change the world by hitting everyone with a silver bullet because they may not be werewolves. A lot of creatures roam around the neighborhood in search of prey especially during the night. Some of them drain your blood, some of them will rip your heart out, while some will eat your brains - if ever you have one.

UNTV Versus Sofitel: Trending Negatively Due to Bad Publicity

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's UNTV against Sofitel. Who would win? Many would side with the underdog, but many will be saying its up to who has the best lawyers. UNTV may get public sympathy but is it all worth it for just one hotel among the many that exists in the country. So what if they banned their TV show in their hotel? Will the effect be significant? Will they be losing a lot if guests in this hotel fail to watch their show in this particular hotel.

Some people just do not realize that it is not just about the amount, the number, the figures, and everything else similar. It is about the principle! To fight for what is right. Sabi nga nila, "Kapag may katwiran, ipaglaban mo!"

But frankly, when we check in at hotels, most of us watch the entertainment channels and less of the news channel. Most of the people who go on business or leisure trips rarely watch the news on TV, and are rarely inside their rooms for the whole day. After waking up, we brush our teeth, take a shower, wear our clothes for the day, and leave the room to take breakfast. We mostly come back at the end of the day.

PNoy Says, Supreme Court Says: It's Their Word Against the World

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We know we have laws, but still many are willfully breaking it. You know why? Because laws are man-made! Laws were meant to guide us but it should not limit us to accept as is, where is - if we know deep inside that it is wrong in the first place. They are the same laws that are being used for evil doers to get away with crimes committed against others. Loopholes exists. Whether we accept it or not, these laws were made by men with hidden agendas and malicious intents.

We've learned a great deal in the past months that most of our trusted men from the government are devious thieves who had their eyes on the "kaban ng bayan" since day one. A great percentage of our politicians are guilty of political dynasties, many of them do not follow the voting and campaign guidelines. Yet they still win. How come?

We basically do not follow our common sense. We follow our emotions. We follow our hearts. We get in trouble because of that. We are just too kindhearted to begin with. We easily forget. We easily forgive. However, eventhough we use our critical thinking in our decision making, there are just too many smart asses out there that are apparently smarter than us. Dim-witted and gullible. These are attributes we are commonly associated with that is why the "trapos" still exists.

When Feelingeras Become Boom Panes

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Some people need to get laid more often because they have too much time to waste and nothing better to do than to rumor-monger and gang-up on unsuspecting people without giving the accused a chance to defend themselves.

There was this thread created by a blogger who thought he should make everyone take notice of a fellow blogger who was copy-pasting articles from another site. It is OK to "police" the community but we should do it more professionally. What is worst is when others were too quick to judge and even inject unnecessary comments that would even implicate others not directly involved.

They should get a life out in the real world away from the keyboard or keypad or touch screen of their PCs or smartphones. Matapang lang sila online pero pag kaharap mo na ay di makaporma.

Winning people is like having sex. You need to begin with a foreplay. Explore her body, work on her G-Spot, and make the ecstacy linger before finally thrusting back and forth that long hard pulsating shaft deep into into her warm quivering moisted membrane until both of you reach an orgasm.

Many are just too trigger-happy to fire that damn shame gun. Putok agad at wala man lang warning shot.
