DOTC on MRT Capacity Expansion Project: We Will Defend The Interest Of Millions Of Passengers

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Following the Makati Regional Trial Court’s (RTC) issuance of a “Temporary Order of Protection” which essentially prevents government from adding coaches to the country’s most-heavily congested rail transit line, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) has assured the Metro Rail Transit III (MRT-3) system’s more than 500,000 passengers that it will defend their interest in court to deliver the long-overdue Light Rail Vehicles (LRVs) at the soonest possible time.

“We will fight for the interest of the hundreds of thousands of MRT-3 riders who have been waiting for more LRVs for too long. At the time when government is finally ready to deliver these projects, the public good is now being held hostage by a private company,” said DOTC Spokesperson Michael Arthur Sagcal.

The court order names the Metro Rail Transit Corporation (MRTC), which owns the MRT-3 facilities, and Metro Rail Transit Holdings II, Inc. (MRTH-II), one of its affiliated companies, as the petitioners for the Temporary Order of Protection.

Philippines Hosts 5th World Ecotourism Conference

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Marine ecotourism will be at the centerpiece of this year’s 5th World Ecotourism Conference to be held on February 20 to 22, 2014 in the island-province of Cebu.

With the theme, “Marine and Coastal Ecotourism: Oceans of Uncertainties, Waves of Opportunities,” the 5th World Ecotourism Conference will discuss the impacts of ecotourism activities linked to the seas such as whale and shark watching, snorkeling, scuba diving, and recreational fishing. The conference will also tackle the socio-economic aspects of the industry such as development of destinations, management of marine ecotourism spots, marketing, and the elimination of poverty through sustainability. The event is co-organized by the Department of Tourism and DISCOVERYMICE of Malaysia and endorsed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

Representatives from government, industry, civil society, and the academe from all over the world are expected to discuss development and sustainability of industries linked to marine and coastal ecotourism.

Don't Be in Such a Hurry to Climb Your Mountain

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The first and only mountain I've climbed so far was Mount Pulag. Many said I should have started with a lesser challenging mountain like Mount Pinatubo but I never chose which one should be my first - there was an opportunity so I grabbed it.

My way to the top was fast because I wanted to catch up with the rest of the group. I never really made much effort to stop for awhile and look at the scenery. There was a schedule to maintain and regardless of the fact that I was so damn tired, sweaty, and thirsty... I had to move on so that the entire group can make it on time. Having to climb with a group also adds some form of motivation on me because I dare not become the weakest link.

The path was toxic, but I endured! Especially during part two of the climb - an early morning trek towards the top trying to make it before sunrise. Suffering from the extreme cold, it was the very first time I felt my body shaking and my teeth quivering relentlessly. The pitch black darkness added more worries as we were only guided by flashlights while following a narrow path.

To Be or Not To Be Obese: That is the Question for Social Responsibility

Wazzup Pilipinas!

What's your take on this?

If given only three choices for drinks: iced tea, soft-drink, or wine - which one would you choose?

Regardless of the reason - health, taste, or appearance - which one deserves a recommendation from you?

To choose the lesser evil, I dare not wait for your answer because it is very obvious. But the focus should be on the most toxic among the three. The product you should avoid entirely! Lessening the intake is not even an option, you should take it out entirely from your diet.

"Kahit ano pang kanta ang i-translate ng isang cola company sa international scene na maging viral ay alam naman natin ang totoo na walang mabuing naidudulot ang soft-drinks sa atin."
No amount of national or international advocacy, social responsibility and awareness campaigns, high-profile endorsers, large donations and relief efforts, employment opportunities, and the likes - can hide the truth that these drinks are harmful to healthy living. The number one source of obesity!

Ellen Adarna is Speed Magazine's Cover Model for February 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Whoah! I just came back from a Monster Energy drink media event where they introduced Ken Block's Japan Experience where they will be raffling off three Japan trips good for two persons each to see Ken Block Gymkhana in July 2014 along with the sultry Ellen Adarna as your buddy for three days and two nights.

Incidentally, the moment I opened up Facebook when I got back home, her photo appeared on my timeline as cover of the tech magazine Speed for the month of February - the love month.

Yeah! We feel in love with Ellen Adarna personally during the media event and her photo on the magazine cover emphasized our adoration for her.

Cook Out 2 Help Out: Burger-Eating Given a New Meaning!

 Wazzup Pilipinas!
"We wanna take this opportunity to thank everyone who dropped by and purchased the delicious burgers prepared by our partners on this second round of Help Out 2 Cook Out last January 24-26 at Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center, Makati City! You all gave burger-eating a new meaning! Thank you so much!"
The Sunday afternoon at the Cook Out 2 Help Out event at the Powerplant Mall in Rockwell was an adocacy worth doing again and again. There is such a warm and fuzzy feeling deep inside everytime you sincerely make efforts to help out our fellowmen especially those lives who were affected by the Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) disaster in the Visayan region.

We may not totally rebuild their shattered lives and properties but it is a worthwhile cause that can amount to greater accomplishments if each and everyone of us will continue to make efforts to run similar causes such as these. Tacloban and the rest of the affected areas still have a lot of rehabilitation necessary to bring back its former glory.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to help rebuild the homes damaged by the typhoon.

Binay Wins a Condo Unit in the Rockwell Raffle

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Am I reading this right? Cong. Abby Binay won your grand raffle? As if they still need additional assets to their burgeoning wealth.

What a coincidence! The congresswoman of the same district where the raffle was organized wins a condominium unit? What an uncanny coincidence that's more likely planted or scripted!

Owwwsss. . . Could it be "lutong macao"? A scheme to justify the bulging assets of the Binays?

Is it a marketing ploy? Knowing that she's one of the owners of a condo there, this will become a boost of value of the properties within the area, not to mention condo sales! Nag-usap usap kaya ang mga sangkot dito?

What a desperate move in order to get away with corruption technicalities. You think Filipinos are stupid enough to believe in this drama and scripted raffle promo? Tell that to the marines! It is too good to be real.
Now we all know how useless it is to even put up the effort of signing a raffle ticket when it's been rigged all along. How typical!

Well at least Senator Len Binay can now text "Tara na sa Condo ko and dala ka ng food!"
