Joseph "Joe" Mauk : The Reverend Top Spinner Who Inspired All of Us

Wazzup Pilipinas!

One of the guest who provided some inspirational talk and entertainment during the 37th PMAP Awards was Reverend Joseph "Joe" Mauk, a missionary of sorts in the Philippines who has challenged the Guinness World Records for spinning the biggest top.

Joe spun several kinds of tops, big and small, colorful and plain, during his talk, and what he emphasized was that all of his tops has significant roles to play and should be deemed all equally important in the eyes of the Lord.

Even the simplest top, so dull and full of scratches, was actually the model of the biggest top they have fabricated to be able to beat the world record for the biggest top spun on record.

On March 10, 2012, Joe Mauk was injured when a gear on a winch exploded while attempting to spin the biggest top in the world for the Guinness World Record. He was hospitalized and had 2 inches of skull removed that was crushed by the gear.

Senator Franklin Drilon Says He Will Lead the Abolition of the PDAF in the Senate

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Did I hear that right?

Senate President Franklin Drilon has proclaimed his intention to lead and promote to the members of  the Senate the abolition of the highly controversial Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) or most commonly known as the "pork barrel" fund.
"I will lead the Senate in the abolition of the PDAF."
This warranted an applause from the majority, if not all of the audience, present during the 50th Annual Conference of the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) celebrating their golden year with a three-day event composed of many activities for the HR practitioner delegates sent by the many companies and organizations doing business in the Philippines.

The event was also graced by a lot of notable top and popular personalities from both government and private sectors.

Watch the video by further reading to see if I did hear it right.

Mitoy Wins The Voice of the Philippines!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I knew it from the first time time he stepped on The Voice of the Philippines stage. Blind auditions pa lang, si Mitoy na talaga yung Voice of the Philippines material. Tumatayo ang balahibo ko every time he sings.

After weeks of battle rounds and live shows, The Voice of the Philippines announced its Final 4: Mitoy Yonting, Myk Perez, Klarisse de Guzman and Janice Javier.

Now, Mitoy Yonting from Pangasinan emerged as the grand champion! In a tight clinch and walang mintis!!!!  This victory by Mitoy was a communal event!

I have to say that the Lea-Mitoy-Vice Ganda production of The Voice of the Philippines singing competition cum reality show topped all performances that night at Resorts World Manila. Mitoy held himself up against such stellar performers! It was epic!

Mitoy Yonting with Lea Salonga and Vice Ganda sang "Total Eclipse of the Heart."

Miriam Defensor even posted an image on Twitter showing the "Face of Mitoy and Lea".

Ang lapit ng labanan 57-43 in favor of Mitoy! Congrats Mitoy and Klarisse! Congrats to the whole team! Mitoy wins The Voice of the Philippines with 57.7% of the public votes.

37th People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Awards : Celebrating HR Excellence

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Congratulations to the winners of the 37th People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Awards! The awarding was held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PIC) Reception Hall last September 25, 2013 as part of the three-day celebration of the PMAP 50th Annual Conference.

The 2013 Employer of the Year award goes to Analog Devices, Inc. while the 2013 People Manager of the Year was won by lone candidate Ms. Fidelina A. Corcuera, SVP and Head of Human Resource Management Group of the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI).

You can see from the photo above the representatives of the two winners being serenaded by premier entertainers Dulce and Robert Sena. Miss Fidelina Corcuera couldn't personally make it to accept the award because she was out of the country attending to a prior engagement in the performance of her role as the HR head of BPI. She sent a video delivering her message of gratitude instead.

Mr. Barbie Atienza hosted the event and an inspiring talk was provided also by world-renowned top spinner Rev. Joseph "Joe" Mauk, a missionary of sorts in the Philippines who succeeded to a humongous top measuring 3.8 meters tall by 3.6 meters wide in diameter. He revealed that he got hurt by a metal debris in the process but claims that he was saved by the Lord due to his faith and trust in him.

Mr. Rene Gener was Committee Chair of the 37th PMAP Awards.

The Last Pistang Pinoy of My High School Life

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We celebrate “Buwan ng Wika” every August of every year. This year, the "Buwan ng Wika" was scheduled last August 19. In our school we named it “Pistang Pinoy” where students are required to wear Barong Tagalog, Marongs, Filipiniana, and other traditional Filipino wear.

I was also awarded for winning the 2nd place in the category called "Pick Up Lines". I really didn’t expect to win in that event because all of the contestants were all good. After the awarding ceremony, it was our time to shine. We had our own performance on stage to dance for the teachers and the students to make them happy. I really appreciated the students because of the cheering that they’ve made when we were dancing.

After the program it was the time to eat which I am always looking forward to during events like these. We also rented an ice cream cart  which offered "sorbetes" or dirty ice cream  for everyone. After that, our batch mates celebrated their last Pistang Pinoy together.

PMAP President Grace Sorongon Retraces 50 Annual Conferences

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Here is another article written by Ernie Cecilia that talks about the Welcome Remarks of People Management Association of the Philippines President Grace Sorongon. The PMAP President delivered her Welcome Remarks last September 25, the first day of the three-day PMAP 50th Annual Conference.
"Pres. Grace believed that PMAP has achieved much over the past 50 years, saying, “First, we mined PEOPLE… Then we mined COMPETENCY, as we transformed from Personnel to Human Resources, and we mined our driver’s seat with a new paradigm of INNOVATION. These three things are our LEGACY for the next 50 years…”
Past annual conferences were retraced and the relevant themes recalled. It was a milestone to reach the golden years, even though there might have been some "worst times", and the need to embrace "change" and understand that "we are the change that we have been waiting for."

AC News Editorial : PMAP Aims for More Relevance as it Holds Golden Conference

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I am posting an Editorial written by Ernie Cecilia for the 50th Annual Conference of the People Management Association of the Philippines. The article was posted on the PMAP official website and the link to this article was also shared on the official PMAP Facebook page during the second day of the PMAP golden celebrations. The golden celebration is made up of three days of various activities and events with a huge number of delegates coming from the Human Resources department of many companies and corporations, as well as some students from prestigious schools.

The grand three-day event aims to provide a lot of learning experiences thru talks shared by high-profile guest speakers from both government and private institutions, and to give recognition to the outstanding men and women, along with their companies, to bring about a better and more exemplary Human Resources management and workforce.

The topics discussed aim to strengthen and revitalize the knowledge and skills of the delegates composed mostly of HR practitioners. It aims to inspire many to appreciate their role in their respective companies, and offers a more responsive PMAP that will play a greater role in all HR related efforts.

"The 50th offering of the PMAP Annual Conference will tackle relevant issues, particularly in light of the impending ASEAN market integration. The conference will tackle such relevant topics as: the challenges and opportunities available to the Filipino workforce in the integrated ASEAN, the Philippines as an untapped gold mine, what HR needs to be serious about, global practices in transcending individual, team and organizational limits, HR as a bridge builder, the journey towards HR excellence, the Filipino Human Capital as a driver of growth, the future world of work, and several HR mastery sessions, workshops, satellite conferences, and site best practice tours."
This is a repost of the article written by Mr. Ernie Cecilia for the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) 50th Annual Conference.

I met Sir Ernie at a Philippine Daily Inquirer sponsored event for bloggers to promote the newspaper's online classified ads launching of a new website and other related promotions.

He also promoted his two books namely
“Life’s Big Lessons” and “Life’s Big Lies”during the event.
After the event, Sir Ernie even dropped us off with his car somewhere in Shaw Boulevard near to our way back home.
