ONE Championship Kicks Off ONE: HEROES OF HONOR in Manila with Press Conference

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Asia’s premier martial arts organization, ONE Championship, is back in Manila for its second of four shows in 2018. In a press conference held at the Grand Ballroom of the City of Dreams in Manila, the promotion kicked off its latest event, ONE: HEROES OF HONOR, which is set for Friday, 20 April, at the Mall of Asia Arena. Photos of the event can be downloaded here.

In attendance were Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, Chatri Sityodtong, main event combatants Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of Baguio City, Philippines and Andrew Leone of Cortland, New York, USA, global kickboxing superstar Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan and opponent ‘Smokin’ Jo Nattawut of Thailand, among others.

Belingon (17-5), who is currently riding a four-bout winning streak, takes on former bantamweight world title challenger Leone (8-3) in a contest with huge title implications. Both Belingon and Leone are seeking a rematch against reigning ONE Bantamweight World Champion Bibiano “The Flash” Fernandes, but will have to go through each other to secure it.

“I know Andrew Leone is a tough opponent, and I need to be at my best to win. It’s going to be one of my biggest matches to date,” said Belingon. “I am very thankful to ONE Championship for allowing me to be a part of this historic event. I can’t leave anything to chance. I have to give another great performance. Beating Leone would be the next step to the title.”

Belingon’s opponent Leone also knows what’s at stake in this matchup, and he isn’t taking the Filipino lightly by any means.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me. I can’t wait to go up there and show what I can do, to perform to the best of my ability,” said Leone. “Kevin Belingon is a tough guy. He’s a hard puncher and he has power. But I’m not worried about his striking. I’ve faced tough guys before. All I can say is that I’ll be ready.”

ONE: HEROES OF HONOR also marks the world premiere of the highly-anticipated ONE Super Series. Announced earlier this year, ONE Super Series aims to provide the world's best martial artists a prestigious global platform to showcase the beauty of Asia's striking arts such as Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, taekwondo, Kung Fu, wushu, sanda, silat, lethwei, and more.

“It’s an open invitation to the greatest strikers in the world,” said Sityodtong. “Fans will witness the absolute elite in striking martial arts, as they go head-to-head on the biggest and most prestigious global stage of competition.”

With ONE Super Series, ONE Championship is now considered the largest martial arts organization in the world. While competing promotions do offer a similar product, according to Sityodtong, they only offer one flavor of martial arts as opposed to ONE Championship which hosts bouts across all styles of martial arts.

“Aside from the many great bouts this Friday night, what I’m most excited about is the launch of ONE Super Series. ONE Championship is the only global player to encompass all styles of martial arts,” said Sityodtong. “We have the best in all styles going up against each other. That’s definitely something to look forward to.”

Making his appearance in the co-main event of the evening, kickboxing elite Giorgio Petrosyan is elated at his chance to leverage ONE Championship’s massive worldwide audience reach. Broadcast to a potential 1.7 billion on any given night to over 136 countries worldwide, ONE Super Series will harness the full potential of ONE Championship’s global influence in order to highlight the greatest in striking martial arts.

And while the promotion is gearing up for a very busy mid-year, Sityodtong teases that there are plenty more surprises to come, including the highly-anticipated launch of ONE Championship’s new mobile app, slated to arrive in the coming months.

“The new ONE Championship mobile app is a true game changer in the world of martial arts,” said Sityodtong. “Soon, fans will have access to all our blockbuster live events and complete library of Hi-Definition content in the palm of their hands, all for free, and you can watch from anywhere in the world. It’s going to take ONE Championship to the next level.”

Before the end of the press conference, Sityodtong also revealed plans to establish a professional boxing league in addition to ONE Super Series, inviting the greatest boxers from the Philippines and around the world to join the promotion.

Also in attendance at the press conference were main card competitors Honorio “The Rock” Banario of Team Lakay, opponent Adrian “The Hunter” Pang of Australia, as well as various ONE Championship athletes who mixed in with the crowd and participated in the festivities.

ONE: HEROES OF HONOR goes down this Friday, 20 April at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines. Gates open at 6:30 PM local time.

ONE Super Series Brings New Action and Excitement With Carnival of Striking Martial Arts

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Making its highly-anticipated premiere at ONE: HEROES OF HONOR is the recently announced ONE Super Series. Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, Chatri Sityodtong, broke the news about the new striking super-league a little over a month ago, promising to bring together the greatest talents in the world of striking under one umbrella.

The new league will be unveiled this Friday, 20 April, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

ONE Super Series aims to provide the world's best martial artists a prestigious global platform to showcase the beauty of Asia's striking arts such as Muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, taekwondo, Kung Fu, wushu, sanda, silat, lethwei, and more.

This means that martial artists of varying striking backgrounds now have the chance to pit their skills against one another in a regulated, safe environment conducive to action and excitement.

Among the first to give fans a taste of all the action is global kickboxing superstar Giorgio “The Doctor” Petrosyan. Considered a true elite striker in the world of kickboxing, Petrosyan is known in circles as the ‘Michael Jordan of kickboxing’. The 32-year-old from Italy is one of the finest offensive talents in the sport, nicknamed “The Doctor” for his surgical precision and near-flawless technique.

With a professional kickboxing record of 85-2-2, 2NC, Petrosyan is known for his incredible 42-bout win streak which lasted for six long years. He is universally recognized as one of the most dominant world champions in middleweight history.

Standing across from Petrosyan in the ring will be Atlanta, Georgia-based Thai kickboxer ‘Smokin’ Jo Nattawut.

Nattawut is a former Lion Fight Super Welterweight Champion and WMC Champion known for his powerful elbow and knee strikes. The 25-year-old is a rising star who holds a professional record of 60-11-2. Against Petrosyan however, Nattawut will have his work cut out for him in dealing with a true legend in the sport.

Apart from the premise of bringing together the world’s greatest strikers, ONE Championship is also set to unveil a brand new five-rope ring designed specifically for ONE Super Series but will also be used in its standard Global Rule Set contests.

While the ONE Championship cage has remained the staple playing field for the promotion since its establishment in 2011, bouts will slowly transition into a ring-only format in the future, an homage to great Asian martial arts promotions of yesteryear.

Main event combatants Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of the Philippines and Andrew Leone of Cortland, New York, USA, along with other martial artists on the card, will be also competing in the brand new stage, marking the first time in the promotion’s history that Global Rule Set bouts will be held inside the ring.

By design, ONE Super Series will provide fans with a dazzling carnival of martial arts disciplines, with the purpose of providing pure martial arts that favors action and excitement above all.

It’s an amazing new development from ONE Championship, who are leading the pack globally in terms of innovation and the development of martial arts as not just a sport, but also as a growing entertainment spectacle.

Filipino Youth Join NEC World Children’s Nature Club

Wazzup Pilipinas!

NEC Philippines CFO, Harry Salas, with children, teachers, and volunteers at the NEC World Children’s Nature Club

NEC and the KEEP Foundation hosted an environmental education program called “NEC World Children’s Nature Club” from March 24th to March 26th at TALA Guesthouse, Baguio City. Using Skype, youth participants from Indonesia, Taiwan, China, Japan, the Philippines, and Malaysia were able to interact, exchange views, and share insights with one another.

Held annually since 2008 to study the potential of applying ICT to environmental education, this program is designed to train children’s awareness of the natural environment and create a global perspective.

For their first day, NEC Philippines CFO, Harry Salas, spent time with children, teachers, and volunteers from the Cordillera Green Network (CGN) and shared NEC’s Make-a Difference Day* activities and then went on to explore the nature around Benguet province. The children were greeted by other participants from China in the afternoon via video call. They excitedly exchanged information from their outdoor activities and ended the day with singing.

The next day, Hector Kawalig, CGN Project Coordinator, invited renowned Ifugao natives Gilbert and Billy Gano to teach children basic wood carving, one of the traditions of an indigenous ethnolinguistic group in the Cordilleras – the Ifugao people. The Ganos were the ones who sought and found alternative ways to continue the tradition of wood carving without harming the environment. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed themselves carving stones, driftwood, and fallen trees.

Filipino-owned Philippine Bottling Beverage Launches Banahaw Spring Purified Water

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipino-owned company Philippine Bottling Beverage (PBB), a new player in the purified water and non-carbonated drinks industry, has launched Banahaw Spring Purified Water at a well-attended media event on April 16 at the Manila House Private Club in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City.

According to Thor Jourdan Mutuc, Business Development Manager at PBB, the company brought one of the latest European technologies to ensure that the production process upholds international standards and quality. “Our production facility located at the foot of Mount Banahaw in San Pablo, Laguna is at par with world standards, fully automated and requires minimal human intervention preserving only the essential natural qualities of the water from the mountain,” said Mutuc.

Revealing that it took three years of research and testing before Banahaw Spring Purified Water has been finally released to the local market, Mutuc further emphasized the intricate process of producing the country’s first purified water to have been named after its source.

“Today, we are sharing with you a purified water product harnessed from sustainable natural sources and bottled with care to ensure you get only safe and quality purified water we Filipinos can be proud of,” he added.

Known for its pristine and lush rainforests, Mount Banahaw also serves as watershed for the provinces of Laguna and Quezon. The water from this vast mountain area is the source of these two provinces’ supply, which are used for domestic, agricultural, and industrial purposes.

Acknowledging the importance of Mount Banahaw, PBB also ensures it takes care of the rural community, where it belongs, and advocates strict compliance of environmental standards in its operation.

“Water sustainability is the most significant aspect of our business,” Mutuc explained, “Beyond careful usage of water, we are putting in place measures that are geared towards protecting forests that nurture groundwater and contribute to the healthy circulation of water in nature.”

Banahaw Spring Purified Water is available in 350ml, 500ml, and one liter bottles. Aside from being free of Bisphenol A (BPA-free), each bottle is design-engineered to support core handgrip.

CTP expressed optimism that its new partners will provide unique value as it moves aggressively in the areas of cloud computing technology, enterprise data security, network management and digital transformation.

Tomas Šárocký, Area Manager at Flowmon Networks, a long-standing innovator in the field of high performing network monitoring and security based on flow data said, “In Flowmon, we understand how computer networks serve as a nervous system of our customers’ business services. Blockchain Technology

Computrade’s recent partnerships serve as foundation for the wide-scale adoption of Blockchain technology.

Blockchain technology is the backbone of a new type of Internet. It allows digital information to be distributed but not copied. Originally designed for the digital currency Bitcoin, the technology is now finding other potential uses.

Information held on a Blockchain exists as a shared — and continually reconciled — database. Using the network this way has obvious benefits. The Blockchain database isn’t stored in any single location, such that the records it keeps are actually public and easily verifiable. There is no centralized version of the information, which a hacker may corrupt. Its data hosted by millions of computers simultaneously, and is accessible to anyone on the internet.

Computrade foresees the application of its expertise in data infrastructure, big data analytics and data security to play a significant role in the roll-out of Blockchain technology in the Philippines.

CTP’s Teddy Sumulong said, “Blockchain technology is the wave of the future. For Computrade, it represents what is likely to be the next stage of digital transformation. We are preparing ourselves to provide the solutions that will ease its acceptance in the country and to fully secure the transactions facilitated by this innovative technology. We are excited at the possibility that we will be able to contribute our share in enabling Filipino enterprises and individuals as well to take full advantage of an emerging technology.”

Tugade Tells MRT-3: File Charges VS Passengers Who Will Disrupt Operations

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Citing public inconvenience and damages, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade has directed the management of the MRT-3 to identify the passenger that caused an unloading incident by leaning on or forcibly opening the train door Friday morning, April 13.

In a speech before business groups and investors at the Philippine Economic Briefing in Pampanga, Tugade expressed his disappointment over a passenger that caused the failure of the door of a southbound train at 8:01AM, which resulted to the unloading of approximately 1,000 passengers at the Santolan-Annapolis station.

This was the first unloading incident recorded at the MRT-3 since April 2.

“For the last 11 days, there was no unloading, it was smooth. Today, we have the first unloading. Do you know the cause? There was someone who put pressure on the door. Pinilit na pumasok habang sarado na. It’s not about parts, it’s about this passenger. My instruction, identify this person,” said Tugade.

He also wants charges filed against passengers who will disrupt train operations.

“From now on, lahat ng mahuhuling sumasandal o nagpipilit magbukas ng pinto ng tren kahit sarado na, kasuhan! I told MRT to file cases and collect damages from them. Maraming naaabala dahil sa kawalan ng disiplina,” he added.

Passengers were loaded in the next train that arrived 4 minutes later. Despite this, MRT-3 was still able to deploy 15 trains at the mainline.

The MRT-3 has been consistently running 15-17 trains daily, an improvement attributed to the arrival of spare parts and general maintenance conducted over the Holy Week

Airport Authorities Arrest Package Padala Scam Suspect

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) operatives apprehended a suspect upon a complaint filed by a would have been victim of the "package padala scam".

Shirley Campones sought the help of the Airport Police last April 12, 2018, suspecting that the person who was asking her USD $11,000.00, in exchange for a package sent to her from abroad, was a scam. The package was supposedly sent by a man who Campones met in the internet identified as Fred Mc Neil.

Campones said that Mc Neil told her that he was held by customs in an airport in Turkey due to some jewelry found in his baggage. Campones said that a texter asked for a meet-up on April 12 at a restaurant at the departure level of NAIA Terminal 1 saying that he/she already have the baggage from Mc Neil. Campones was advised to bring 11,000 USD in exchange for it.

Thinking that this could be a scam, Campones told the Airport Police that she can give only a partial amount of the USD $11,000.00.

Operatives of the Airport Police planned an entrapment operation and accompanied Campones at the meet up place. They discreetly monitored Campones until a black foreign national, suspected to be the texter, approached Campones. While eating snacks, Campones handed a white envelope with money to the suspect, as part of their agreement to release the package. At that instance, operatives of the Airport Police approached and arrested the foreigner.

The suspect was identified as Miriam Kanoute, 34 years old, single, Maly national, with address in Makati City.

Campones said that Kanoute was the same foreigner she previously met in a mall in Makati. Kanoute was then with another foreigner Ronald Morris. The meet up was also regarding the supposed package for Campones.

Suspect Kanoute was brought to the Pasay Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings for Violation of Article 315 (Syndicated Swindling/Estafa) of the Revised Penal Code and violation of Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).

Kanoute is now temporarily detained at the MIAA police headquarters pending issuance of an inquest resolution from Pasay.

MIAA GM Ed Monreal lauded the MIAA-PIID operatives for their swift action.

“I call on everyone to be careful with their dealings with people they do not know. It pays to be cautious in this regard. We advice the public to seek the help of police authorities in case of doubt," Monreal said in closing.
