Cocina Juan: Just A Hole in The Wall Were You Will Find Great Fusion Food

The concept behind Cocina Juan got its inspiration from the owner's trip at Nicaragua. Nicaragua is the largest country in the Central American isthmus, bordering Honduras to the north and Costa Rica to the south. 

At Cocina Juan, the staple sauce is chimichurri for meats like pork or chicken, and sofrito sauce for fish. The rest of Cocina Juan's menu is Tex-Mex, where they use a lot of sweet white sauce and cheese.

The restaurant is located at Maginhawa street at UP Teacher's Village Quezon City - unsurprisingly with a student price for its meals to make it affordable for the students.




If you want to go to Cocina Juan, better have a look out for the giant chili sign. The signage is not easy to spot but the chili logo is easier.

The restaurant was a photographer's heaven. There were a lot of nooks and crannies, and every corner and  items were interesting enough to take photos of. A conversational piece was the lights made out of colored bottles. It must surely looks good when seen during the night.
 

 

Multi-colored bottles adorened the light source to giove it a colorful glow at night time.


 




The restaurant has a lot of odd knickknacks like paintings, old empty liquor bottles, a guitar, some decorative masks, and a couple of skateboards.


I thought the skateboards were just for display until I saw the owner used it on the streets to get back home.




Ironic enough, they have a lot of liquor bottle son display but Cocina Juan does not serve any liquor. Not even red or white wine, or even beer.

But you can bring your own though.Everyone is permitted to bring their liquor drink especially when celebrating a special ocassion.




 

If the venue was interesting enough, the food they served us were equally pleasing to the eye. ...and wait till you taste them, they were a true delight ! In fact, I think these are the only meals served to us that we manage to consume in quick bites. The plate was food free down to the very itsy bitsy piece. Especially the dessert!

Their signature dessert, Sopa Borracha Con Frio Crema, similar to a butter pound cake with liquor that tastes like a fruit cake. We had the one with vanilla ice cream and lemon.

 

The three brothers behind Cocina Juan. Thank you for welcoming us at Cocina Juan. Juan is the third guy at the rightmost where the name of the restaurant came from.





The group were ever grateful they had the opportunity to dine at Cocina Juan. Until next time!
