The Social Security System (SSS), through its Branch and Service Offices in Western Mindanao, conducted SSS orientations to 116 job order (JO) and contractual workers of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region IX on May 10, 2023.

The orientation was simultaneously held nationwide at different TESDA Regional and Provincial Offices in preparation for the JO workers’ SSS coverage under the KaSSSangga Collect Program once a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been signed.

Through the KaSSSangga Collect Program, JO workers who are not covered by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) will be ensured of their active SSS membership, which will entitle them to various social security benefits such as sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, death, and funeral, including short-term loan privileges like salary and calamity loan. They may also receive Employees’ Compensation (EC) benefits for work-related contingencies.

Photo shows SSS Zamboanga Branch’s Accounts Management Section Senior Analyst Erwin L. Salcedo discussing with JO workers in attendance the SSS mandate, the value of SSS membership, and the advantages of the KaSSSangga Collect Program.

Singapore International Festival of Arts 2023 opens hearts and minds to a myriad of perspectives through performance

The Singapore International Festival (SIFA) 2023 concluded its 46th year last weekend, celebrating its second year under the helm of Festival Director Natalie Hennedige and her overarching title, The Anatomy of Performance with this year’s subtitle, Some People.

SIFA 2023’s rousing return continued to see dynamic collaborations and creative intersections between local and international artists in four new commissions, as well as a strong showing of 11 invited international presentations that offered compelling responses to SIFA 2023’s subtitle Some People. SIFA’s multiplicity and agency as platform for contemporary performance was also brought to the fore with SIFA X, the Festival’s platform embracing alternative expression and experimentation, and Life Profusion, SIFA’s parallel virtual venue.

Organised by Arts House Limited (AHL) and commissioned by the National Arts Council (NAC), SIFA 2023 ran for three weeks from 19 May to 4 June, presenting a lineup of more than 90 performances and activities across 14 venues island-wide, which involved the participation of over 200 local and international artists from 11 countries and regions.

Natalie Hennedige, Festival Director for SIFA 2022-2024 said, “In exploring the vast spectrum of the human experience, The Anatomy of Performance – Some People was an invitation for audiences to meditate on the different narratives that chapter our lives – the trials, triumphs and transformations that have shaped how we perceive the world – while also creating space for taking in the perspectives of others and finding empathy through performance.”

Festivalgoers can continue to access Life Profusion’s animated works and creative responses at sifa.sg.

Hennedige will present the final edition of her three-year arc as Festival Director next year with The Anatomy of Performance – Confession, which explores confessions, or truths, embedded at the heart of great art. The 2024 edition will be held from 17 May to 2 June 2024 (subject to change).
