When was the bra and panty introduced in the Philippines

In a particular scene on Maria Clara at Ibarra, we see them wondering about the bra...and it also mentioned the underwear or panty, though they only showed the bra and not the latter which were supposedly worn by the actress portraying the role of Maria Clara from the present day who meets the Maria Clara character from Noli Me Tangere of Jose Rizal.

They had to remove the garments when they undressed and changed the clothing of present day Maria Clara when she fainted. The baffled characters from Noli Me Tangere were all making a fuzz about the undergarments at one room while the owner was also figuring out where they put them.

But were there no bra and panty during those times when Noli Me Tangere was written?

It is difficult to pinpoint the exact date when bras and panties were first introduced in the Philippines, as the history of underwear in the country is not well documented. However, it is likely that bras and panties were introduced to the Philippines during the American colonial period, which lasted from 1898 to 1946.

One of the key themes of the novel is the struggle for national identity. Rizal portrays the Philippines as a nation in crisis, torn between its colonial past and the desire for independence.
