PUP SLP’s 2nd Phase: An Apadtation of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town”

Wazzup Pilipinas!

For 39 years, PUP Sining-Lahi Polyrepertory continues its mission in further propagating culture and arts to the institute it belongs to and to the nearby communities as well. PUP SLP has already staged its season opener for its theatre season last August 2019 with Rody Vera’s “Ang Unang Aswang” that showcased the group’s 1st phase – KAAKUHAN. Now on its 2nd phase – KAMALAYAN, the group will be staging a play entitled “Aguas Santas 1901,” an adaptation of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town” and directed by Bunny Cadag, this December 3, 4, and 5, 2019 with show times of 2pm, 4pm, and 6pm in the Tanghalang PUP, COC Building, Anonas St., Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The group’s 39th theatrical season entitled NENA personifies innocence from colonialism and free expression and will be having four different phases. “Nena” comes from the Spanish word “Nay-nah” that is usually used as a term of endearment such as “sweetheart” in the English Language. “Aguas Santas 1901” will be representing the 2nd phase which is KAMALAYAN. (Read more about the group’s theatrical season’s theme in: https://www.facebook.com/169928869695635/posts/2358443670844133/).

KAMALAYAN phase aims to promote people to open characteristics of their minds and to be more aware of what is happening in their surroundings. Awareness, also being a characteristic of the mind, is to be alert, to meddle, and to respond to one’s society’s issues and crises.

“Aguas Santas 1901” is a three-act play with music wherein each act represents their own themes about life . The first act will focus more on the daily lives of the townspeople. The 2nd focuses more on love, marriage, and unity between lovers. And lastly, the 3rd act discusses more about death. The play is set in the year 1901, in a fictional little town in Los BaƱos, Laguna called Aguas Santas.

“Our Town” by Thornton Wilder maybe based on American context and culture, but the members of the group ensures that the adaptation, “Aguas Santas 1901,” will show more of the Philippine Culture and more original content to the direction of the play.

Are Philippines Casino Kidnappings Pushing More Players To Gamble Online?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The news is filled with articles relating to kidnappings that have now become the norm in the Philippines. What began as a ransom for money scheme that focused on ripping foreign visitors out of their beds and secreting them away until the money was paid, has begun to morph into a million-dollar business in a country where logic appears to hold no sway.

Lawless operations have been targeted by police operations for almost a decade, and just as one group is found out and arrested, another comes into being and takes the other’s place.

So, how is this altering the way people in the Philippines live their daily lives and are Philippine casino kidnappings pushing more players to gamble online using mobile devices? The answer is complex and confusing.

Beware the Tiger in the Brush

Recently, a news article reported that an anti-kidnapping unit had successfully arrested a group of 119 individuals connected with the kidnapping of at least 52 casino-linked operatives. They also reported the take down of more than 30 illegal offshore gaming operations within Philippine boundaries.

The article claims that the kidnappings were all due to excessive gambling debts and the inability to settle them in an acceptable manner. But is that the whole story?

Another article discusses the seizure of a young child that was kidnapped and held for ransom, another tells of the kidnapping of an older man and his wife used for ransom, and still another story discussed the tragedy of four people that were kidnapped and killed when ransom wasn’t met.

There was no mention of gambling associated with the last three kidnappings; rather, the articles implied it was a get-rich-quick scheme orchestrated by a Chinese gang that moved into the Philippines just for that purpose.

Understand the Problems and Areas

While there are sections of the Philippines that are trouble-free, there are over a dozen areas, especially in the southern regions that are at high risk of military problems, martial law, and terrorism. Violence can flare up in these areas without warning, and foreign travelers are advised to stay out of all of the regions.

Although Filipino security forces have fought to control the kidnappings, explosive acts of violence, and bombings in recent years by several terrorist groups, the various guerrilla organizations appear to be increasing.

With the unpredictability of the danger on the streets and the unsafe conditions when visiting a casino, it is little surprise that going on a friend’s night out to gamble can become a nightmare filled with extreme violence and sometimes death.

Recognize the Danger that Prevails

Because of the uncertainty that surrounds everyday life in the Philippines, going to a casino to gamble may sound like fun, but it probably isn’t safe. The problem may be as simple as understanding the gang networks that infiltrate the casinos there and how they work.

If someone is found to be winning a large sum of money, a gang member called a ‘watcher’ that wanders through the casino can quickly notify the gang members waiting outside to watch for the exit of the winning individual.

The assault can take place in the parking lot, after gang members follow the winner home, or upstairs in the winner’s room at the casino. No place is safe.

Gamble Online To Stay Safe

To remain protected, those people that want to gamble in the Philippines are turning to the safety of the offshore internet gambling sites and trusted online casinos for Filipinos

It is much safer to stay indoors and place a bet than to leave home and worry about being kidnapped or assaulted. So, the answer to the complex and confusing question about gambling in the Philippines is yes; kidnappings are pushing more players to gamble online.

Black Beauty Shampoo: Keeps The Hair Your Best Asset

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Having fine hair is something that I like but hate at the same time. Kind of confusing don't you think?

Fine hair is generally is a term used if the diameter of your hair strand is thinner than the normal or the average diameter. This could also mean that the hair can look limp and lifeless if applied with too much products.

I've had several occasions where my fine hair looked dull and limp. Its more embarrassing to see photos of it! But fret not, here are some fixes you could do for your hair.

Have a good (not too long) hair style

Sometimes the longer your hair is, the flatter or limper (is there such a word?) it looks. I suggest go for shoulder length to bob cuts. The science of it is the shorter the hair, the more volume it has.

But what if you don't want to have short hair for your fine hair? There is still a solution.

Layers. Layers...did I say layers?

Layers actually puts some body and volume into the hair. I am a big fan of layers for my hair since it also compliments my chubby face so make sure to ask your stylist to do soft layers for your hair for that young and vibrant look.

Bang Bangs!

Remember how our mothers would make us sport bangs during our younger years? I do remember mine and I noticed that it creates an illusion of fullness and adds body to the hair. Make sure to pick your style of bangs to either sideswept ones, fringe, or blunt.

Consider a good shampoo.

As part of taking care of our hair, picking the right shampoo and conditioner is key to having more volume and life to the hair. There are a lot of shampoos in the market that do give volume and life to the hair.

One shampoo I can consider is Black Beauty shampoo since its a shampoo that not only gives your hair the volume you need but also makes your hair thicker. Black Beauty is actually a Philippine made product so its really cheap and affordable for the on the go Pinay. You can also use this with the conditioner so you can see the full effect. But don't think the result will be shown immediately, mostly it would be seen around a month or two of usage.

Overall, If you have thin hair, don't let it be a liability but more as an asset because its something to be proud of. Remember to love your hair and take care of it as much as possible.

I hope you like this post!

Much Love!
