Simple And Easy Ways To Handle Gold Leaf Online

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Imitation gold leaf is often considered to be thicker than most of the 23 carat gold leaf. The leaf, in turn, is semi-transparent and thin, which makes a great deal when you are actually trying to handle the leaf.

However, the principles will remain more or less same whether you are planning to use genuine leaf made out of gold or the imitation one in the market. Even the equipment and tools will also remain the same. You don’t have to use multiple requirements to gild in a successful manner. But, learning the basic ways to handle gold leaf proficiently can be a major problem for those who aren’t that experienced.

Major items and more to learn:

The gilding knife and gilding cushion are two of the major terms available in this regard. Some of the other materials, which are indeed necessary to work on gold leaf handling, are cotton wool, Vaseline, pumice powder and the leaf itself. The secondary products, as mentioned right now, are priced economically. Well, if you are lucky enough to come across straight edged cutlery knife from 1950s, you have come across the best gilding knife for sure!
Learn to handle it first:

Before you plan to apply Gold Leaf Online, try to handle it first. There are some step by step methods applicable to follow, to handle the leaf with ease.

For the first step, you need to scoop about half teaspoon of the pumice powder with the help of gliders knife and put that on cushion. It is mandatory to note that your cushion needs to be free from any grease trace and pumice will act to degrease cushion.

The gliding knife should not have extremely sharp edges. If so, then it might easily cut into leather of cushion and that will make the surface rough.

With the help of this knife, you can spread powder over the cushion’s surface and use edge of knife and not flat blade. Later, use that side for scraping the powder forward and backward to cover entire cushion. It helps in removing grease from the area.
Wipe off the powder from knife and bush surplus powder from cushion with gilders knife. Open the leak book and inert blade under the leaves.

There are some gilders to help you use shield around cushion for preventing drafts from blowing leaf. After lifting the leaf, laid it flat out. If you fail to put the leaf straight, you can blow onto the leaf’s surface.

If you need, you can actually cut the leaf into smaller pieces, and then put that on the item you want. Try drawing knife through leaf, and exert a moderate pressure while planning to do so.

If you want, you can grease the back side of your hand too. This grease will help you to use leaf easily and without crumbling it. You can use any shape and size of gold leaf, once you are through with the basic application procedure. But be sure to get the right tools by your side.

Etihad Airways Launches Major New Partnershio with Acqua D Parma

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Symbolising modern elegance and authentic Italian style, iconic brand ACQUA DI PARMA to fly high in The Residence, First Class and Business Class cabins, and at flagship First Class Lounge & Spa

Etihad Airways has launched a major new partnership with the Italian fragrance brand, ACQUA DI PARMA. From August, the UAE national airline will introduce a range of exclusive amenity bags and toiletries for its customers travelling in The Residence on its Airbus A380s, and on long-haul First Class and Business Class services. The iconic brand will also feature in the airline’s flagship First Class Lounge & Spa in Abu Dhabi.

The new collaboration was celebrated with a curated event at the St. Regis Hotel’s legendary Abu Dhabi Suite, which was decorated in a style inspired by the perfumer, and featured a unique perfume room where guests were given a personal fragrance experience by a team from ACQUA DI PARMA.

The event also saw the screening of a specially commissioned short film showcasing the partnership. Depicting a guest on an Etihad flight admiring the plush surroundings of his Business Class seat, the film shows him being instantly transported on a sensory journey to the landscapes of Italy by taking in the scent of ACQUA DI PARMA’s famous Colonia fragrance offered onboard.

Linda Celestino, Etihad Airways Vice President Guest Experience and Delivery, said: “ACQUA DI PARMA is universal in its appeal, effortlessly combining, traditional know-how, craftsmanship and innovation with a modern Italian, yet very international flair. We could think of no better brand partner who stands for the same understated elegance, focus on design, luxury and warmth associated with Etihad as a world-leading airline. We look forward to exploring opportunities to expand our partnership even further.”

Etihad Airways’ association with ACQUA DI PARMA began in 2014, when the airline started offering the brand’s luxury toiletries in The Residence. Founded in 1916 in the historic city of Parma, and part of the LVMH Group since 2001, ACQUA DI PARMA has worked closely with Etihad Airways to tailor its unique products to each stage of the guest experience, on the ground and in the air, using its signature Colonia, a perfume with a formula which has remained unchanged for 102 years, along with a selection of additional fragrances in The Residence.

CEO & President of ACQUA DI PARMA, Laura Burdese, said: “After 102 years, ACQUA DI PARMA has become an icon of Italian style, the essence of sophistication and effortless elegance Italy is known for around the world. We are extremely selective when choosing brands to associate with, but partnering with a world-leading airline like Etihad was a natural choice due to its premium services and high-end inflight experience.

“Extending this partnership through an exclusive selection of products in The Residence, First and Business Class, centered around our signature Colonia fragrance, was a highly anticipated extension and development of this long-term association. I see this partnership as an enhancement of a relationship founded on the same shared values of excellence and quality, and the perfect opportunity to bring the Italian warmth and refined elegance over the world in the most gratifying way possible.”

In The Residence, the airline’s revolutionary three-room cabin on Airbus A380 aircraft flying from Abu Dhabi to London, Paris, New York and Sydney, guests are provided with a bespoke range of fragrances and toiletries provided in their own private shower room, including a Colonia amenity kit. Colonia Pura is provided for men and Magnolia Nobile for women.

Yellow, the colour synonymous with the Italian brand, is used for all First Class bags, while Business Class bags are offered in the same yellow, and also in black.

The First Class unisex cylinder bag contains a miniature bottle of Colonia, a 40ml body lotion and lip balm. First Class toiletries include Colonia hand wash and hand cream, and Colonia bathroom amenity kits feature shower gel, body lotion, hair shampoo, and hair conditioner.

The Business Class unisex wallet bag, which can be buttoned to create a stylish and useful valet tray, contains a Colonia sampler and hand cream, which will also be dispensed in the Business Class washrooms.

Ms. Celestino adds: “Just as Etihad is not just simply an airline, ACQUA DI PARMA is more than just a fragrance. Both are respected and loved luxury brands. This partnership showcases refined Italian style and Arabian hospitality and we know it will prove very popular with our guests. The range of products chosen will enhance their comfort onboard and will also define their journey through this new sensory experience.

“It also highlights cross-cultural similarities and the importance of the sense of smell throughout everyday life, which can elevate the mood, and links fragrances to memorable experiences. The original Colonia was sprayed onto gentlemen’s tailored suits as a finishing touch, just as Oud would be anointed onto the Farokha tassel of an Emirati Kandora, or sprayed onto the Abaya.”

ACQUA DI PARMA products will also be offered in the washrooms and shower facilities at the airline’s award-winning First Class Lounge & Spa at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

History Con 2018 Holds Bloggers Conference

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The History Con 2018 highlights and attractions are just too good to miss that the organizers of the event, A+E Networks led by Jacque Ruby, has conducted a bloggers event to announce the upcoming celebrities to grace the event, the all-time favorite and new attractions, the Guinness attempts, and a lot more.

You should not miss the 3rd run of History Con as it promises to be SUPER, compared to last year which was BIGGER, BOLDER AND BETTER.

The event ahs been announcing celebrity line-ups from their previous press releases posted on Wazzup Pilipinas since we are among their media partners, but we learned quite a lot of exciting plans and attractions at the bloggers event held on July 23 at Gerry's Grill Tomas Morato - same place where they've been holding the previous bloggers conference for History Con.

And why hold a conference for bloggers when there's going to be a presscon on the first day of the event too? Because bloggers could easily spread the news at SUPER speeds unlike most trad media. However, a few of them are gaining momentum by already publishing the news as it happens via Facebook Live or posing immediately at their online counterpart and social media pages.

On August 10 would be the day when the presscon would have these celebrity guests, both local and foreign, and an opportunity for interviews with the up-close and personal. That is the most exciting part since  we get to ask our own questions and feature them exclusively on Wazzup Pilipinas.

We would like to thank Jacque Ruby for providing a more generous lunch for the blogegrs complete with dessert and coffee. He allowed us to order instead of just relying on the plated meal, so we got to taste Gerry's Grill Filipino dishes specialties like Kare-Kare, Crispy Pata, and Grilled Squid. Gerry's Grill x History Con Food and Restaurant Review? Lol!

The afternoon ended with some freebies (shirt, notebook and pouch) and a groupfie with Jacque Ruby and Leslie (Bernadette Sembrano) Castaneda, and the bloggers.

Watch our video coverage (three-parts video posted on Facebook) of the entire discussion led by Jacque Ruby, plus a special invite and shout-out with him.

Brilliant Finds at Upcoming León Exchange Online Auction On July 27 and 28

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Lalique crystal, Hermés ashtrays, Tiffany chargers as well as Botong Francisco drawings and Fernando Zobel watercolors are just some of the brilliant finds at the upcoming two-day online auction of León Exchange on July 27 and 28.

“There are numerous gems in the current sale. For the budding collector, we have quite a few introductory pieces such as paper works by the masters and several contemporary pieces to feed one’s interest in art. For the seasoned collector, on the other hand, there is just the right Art Deco armoire or Huanghuali piece to be discovered and cherished — not to mention Saprid sculptures that are just divine,” explains Jaime Ponce de Leon.

On the first day, July 27th, León Exchange has in focus “The Collectors’ Vault”, featuring many precious artworks, objects, as well as letters and stamps. Oil on mother-of-pearl paintings, possibly attributed to Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, silver-backed brushes and magnifying glasses with tortoise-shell handles are some of the many treasures from the Ramon N. Villegas collection. Villegas was a renowned antiquarian and scholar of all things Philippine.

“The Property of a Prima Ballerina”, the legendary Felicitas “Tita” Radaic, showcases the books and paintings accumulated over “a lifetime of dancing in the world’s capitals and a love of literature, wisdom and art.” Rare santoses, all with National Museum stamps and collected by her husband, art historian and intellectual Ante Radaic from across the islands are also featured. Several tomes of Rizaliana are also available.

The collection of an Old Malabon family, the Dionisios, consists of collectible furniture including an outstanding 3-drawer Sheraton.

León Exchange continues its celebration with “L’Art de Vivre (The Art of Living Well)” on Day 2, July 28th. A range of furniture, chandeliers and lamps, silverware, crystal and china grace the “Heiresses’ Homes and Tables” section. Names recognizable to top interior designers include Eames and Fortuny as well as Baker and Ralph Lauren. Exquisite lacquered accent pieces, tortoise-shall side tables, and Edo-period gold-leafed screens are also presented.

On both days, a section called “Found Objects” covers lithographs and prints, marvelous contemporary works and artist toys, mid-century modern finds as well as wardrobes, tables and chairs from all the eras.

One can indulge one’s tastes for the exquisite at all price points at the upcoming online auction, says Jaime Ponce de Leon, “and all that from one’s armchair or boudoir. The online auction gives clients the convenience of bidding through their mobiles or laptops, without having to trek all the way to where physical auctions happen.” This convenience makes online auctions for smaller-value — but no less enchanting — lots trending,” he said.

It’s as simple as going to www.leonexchange.com and registering as a buyer. Previews for the superb lots begin on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.

AWS Hackdays 2018 Philippine Champion to Compete in Jakarta

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Team Makati Boyz wins with their intelligent Customer Relations application aims to help the local e-commerce sector improve customer experience through inclusive in-store technology.

Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, announced Team Makati Boyz as the winner of country level AWS Hackdays 2018 in the Philippines, with its intelligent customer relations application, which intends to leverage image and video recognition to improve business insights for customer retention. The team will receive an all-expense paid trip to Jakarta, Indonesia, where they will represent the Philippines in the hackathon’s grand finale on 19-20 September 2018.

AWS Hackdays is an annual education and hackathon event held across six countries in Southeast Asia, which saw competing teams build artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) based solutions around the themes of transportation; media and entertainment; e-commerce; and fintech. The Philippine leg of the competition saw a total of 18 teams comprising 61 participants, who used AWS services including Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Polly, Amazon Rekognition, and Amazon Lex, to build their solutions within 12 hours. These solutions were then evaluated by a judging panel based on their innovation, business impact, implementation, and user experience.

A total of 18 teams and 61 participants joined AWS Hackdays 2018’ Philippine leg to develop solutions using AWS technology

“We would like to congratulate Team Makati Boyz on their well-deserved win with the impressive solution they built in under 12 hours using Amazon Artificial Intelligence and Amazon Machine Learning  services. Through the AWS Hackdays, we look to educate developers across the region on the opportunities to build innovative solutions with AI and ML. By harnessing AWS technologies, especially Amazon SageMaker to build, train, and deploy ML models; Amazon Polly to build speech-enabled applications; and Amazon Lex to build chatbots, these solutions can help contribute to ongoing advancement of Southeast Asia in the region, and inspire the next generation of talented developers,” said Nick Walton, Managing Director for ASEAN, AWS.

Team Makati Boyz, Marco Valmores (L), Gonzalo Relova (C), Raphael Quisumbing (R), and Joseph Sergovia (not in photo) will be representing the Philippines’ at the Grand Finale in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“When considering our project, we first had to identify the top issues and trends facing the E-commerce sector in the Philippines. We realized that while virtual stores are growing in popularity, in-store locations still provide valuable insights to customer experience. The idea banks on using the stores’ CCTV cameras that capture images and moods of walk-ins to enhance data on customer behavior through improved demographic and psychographic matching. With AWS technologies, such as the Amazon Rekognition, we were able to build our solution by adding image and video analysis to our application. We expect to develop it even further after this competition,” said Raphael Quisumbing of Team Makati Boyz.

At the AWS Hackdays 2018 grand finale in Jakarta, Indonesia, Team Makati Boyz will  compete with the winners from Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand for the coveted grand prize – an all-expense paid trip to attend the world’s top cloud conference - AWS re:Invent 2018 in Las Vegas, USA on 26-30 November 2018.
