Manel, Sleep Kitchen Light Up Indie Concert Posporo(s)

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Indie bands Manel and Sleep Kitchen take center stage at 20:20 Bar in Makati on November 25 to deliver the last round of Philippine-Spanish indie concerts Posporo(s) 2017.

Organized by the Embassy of Spain and the Instituto Cervantes de Manila with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Posporo(s) is a series of concerts featuring the best bands in the Spanish and Philippine indie music scene. For the last two years, 16 groups from Spain and the Philippines and several prestigious local DJs have ignited the best live music venues in Metro Manila with these bilateral music matches.

Posporo(s) aims to promote indie music talents from Spain and the Philippines, giving the artists themselves an opportunity to experience the music of their counterparts.

Manel is undoubtedly one of the most relevant contemporary bands in the Spanish scene for their exquisite variety of musical repertoire, navigating between pop and folk along with deep narrative wit. With their four records, the Barcelona band is already part of the great tradition of excellent music sung in Catalan, where the big names of the cançó have always operated as popular craftsmen, offering a message that reaches all social layers, generational fringes and geographical origins. The great narrative flow of their compositions transits by the daily emotion, the nostalgia and the future at hand, in a universe full of characters that move between the real and the imagined.

After becoming the first pop act ever to reach the #1 of the Official Spanish Charts singing in Catalan with 10 milles per veure una bona armadura (2011), the band did it again two more times: in 2013 with the release of their third album Atletes, baixin de l’escenari (2013) and then, in April 2016, with their fourth, Jo competeixo. With Jo competeixo, Manel made a clear turn towards the contemporary pop that the band will offer at their Manila concert.

Sleep Kitchen will join Manel in this last concert of Posporo(s) 2017. The Filipino quartet has, by accident, combined folk, soul, and rock in what was only supposed to be a garden variety telling of Tao Aves‘ everyday sadness. In the course of the group’s relatively new standing, each of the members have already established their individual musical ventures and careers, especially Aves. The band’s collaborative work has been on for more than a year now and their music sends vivid pictures of the stories they intend to share. From the narratives of the lyrics, the powerful fluid riffs, and the enchanting voice of Aves, Sleep Kitchen has made its mark on their chosen musical genres.

As with the first season of Posporo(s) concerts, this edition culminates with Philipine DJs playing the latest in electronic music. Growing up in a musically inclined family, counting singing and playing instruments as early forays, it isn’t hard to imagine that Mafia Escasinas would eventually pursue a career in music as a DJ. Starting in 2014 at Today x Future, she found comfort in house and electro music, but was later challenged to embrace hip hop and R&B where she has since thrived. Spinning a signature sexy vibe, she is also one half of The Grrs (with James Go), a DJ duo that also hosts Bed Squeaks, a hip hop and R&B party at Finders Keepers in Black Market, as well as an electro/indie night at Today x Future called Oh No! A versatile DJ, she currently plays a range of genres, including house, techno, hip hop, R&B, electro and disco.

Miss Badkiss a.k.a. Christina Bartges is a half German DJ that plays an impeccable array of electro and techno mostly from her home country Germany. She got musically inspired hanging out her favorite club Erste Liga in Munich, watching the club’s residents Munk. When she started using the decks, Munk were nice enough to give her a bunch of records. Munk is now a popular artist who have releases by the label Gomma who have on its roster, Headman and Princess Superstar. Today, Miss Badkiss is the resident DJ of Elektro Disco, Soundsgood’s Friday nights at M Café. Her DJing skill has brought her all around the country. Her collection of vinyl is constantly updated as she plays the latest in minimal techno, hiphop, groove, discopunk and anything funky enough to make anyone dance.

DOE’s Fuel Economy Run Highlights Vehicle Efficiency

Wazzup Pilipinas!

READY, SET, GO: DOE Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella waves the starting flag in kicking off the 13th DOE Fuel Economy Run at Clark, Pampanga Nov. 20-22.

The aim of the Fuel Economy Run was to raise awareness on the importance of fuel-efficient technology in automobiles and the positive impact of said technology on motorists and the environment.

As part of its efforts to promote better awareness of fuel-efficient technology in vehicles, the Department of Energy (DOE), with Petron Corporation, conducted the 13th DOE Fuel Economy Run on 20-21 November in Clark, Pampanga.

“Through this event, we will be able to determine fuel consumption rating in kilometers per liter of different brand new vehicles available in the market in accordance with actual highway driving conditions,” DOE Undersecretary Wimpy Fuentebella said as he spoke on behalf of Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi during the opening program.

A total of 55 participants consisting of sedans, service utility vehicles (SUV), multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) and pickups from various car manufacturers joined the fuel economy run with 26 vehicles running on diesel and 26 vehicles on gasoline.

“DOE aims to empower our consumers in their choice of vehicle by putting a premium on energy efficiency,” Fuentebella added.

Results were announced during the awarding ceremonies afternoon of Tuesday (21 November) based on the evaluation of the participants’ statistics after the run.

For the diesel entries, the Volkswagen Golf GTS was the most fuel-efficient vehicle in the sedan category with a fuel economy rating of 27.91 kilometers/liter (km/L). In the SUV category, Ssangyong Rodius topped the list with a rating of 33.12 km/L.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Carl Chavez's Sorry for the Inconvenience bagged the Best Short Film award at the Cinema One Originals 2017 awards night held last November 19 at the Dolphy Theater in Quezon City.

The short film tells the story of Joshua (Ronwaldo Martin), a timid teenager who comes home one night after being beaten up by a bully in school. With revenge on his mind, the teenager decides to take matters into his own hands. When things didn't go as planned, he is left with no choice but to seek help from his policeman father (Simon Ibarra). Cherry Malvar and Luis Ruiz provide support in the film which also competed at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival last August.

Chavez, a graduate of the Digital Filmmaking Program of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, also made it to Cinema One Originals last year with Yes Mami, a short film about a young boy who dreams of getting the role of Mary for their high school theater club’s annual nativity presentation. Not Applicable, his BenildeFilm thesis, previously won third best short film at the 2016 CineFilipino Film Festival.

Sorry for the Inconvenience edged out Big Boy by Jethro Jamon, Bilang by Edsel Uy, Caramel Child by Kim Timan, Diskarte by Agu Crisostomo and Mich Cervantes, Ina N’yo by Mary Evangelista, Mga Paro sa Dulo ng Lupa (Lords at the Edge of the Land) by Paulo dela Paz, Suerte by Carlo Fajarda and Supot by Philip Giordano for the Cinema One Originals prize. Timan, dela Paz and Fajarda are also BenildeFilm alumni like Chavez while Crisostomo and Cervantes are from the school’s animation program.

Chavez is currently in Indonesia as one of the finalists of the ASEAN-ROK Film Leaders Incubator: FLY 2017 program along with fellow Filipino filmmaker Jean Cheryl Dizon Tagyamon and 20 others from Brunei, Cambodia, Korea, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the host country. The workshop runs until December 3.

How to Write Your Term Paper if You Don't Feel Like It

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Writing a term paper is not as easy as many students presume it to be. Term papers help assess how much you have learned at the end of your academic terms thus you being graded. They also help lecturers note where you lie in your class progress. This is one of the reasons why you are often afraid of writing assignments.

Many questions horde in your mind when overwhelmed with what is expected of you when writing a term paper. The requirements to be met make you have fear of failure since you wonder the basis used when grading. The fear recedes when you have a strong foundation of the general basics you need to know about writing.

Effective time management

Time management is the one thing students do not know how to go about. You usually like doing their assignments day by day hence the deadline for submission approaches. You end up submitting poorly done assignments thus low grades. You do not know when to start writing and are usually overconfident and presume that there is still time. In the end, you get tangled with where to start writing and how to start. However, through determination, you can learn how to write a term paper and avoid poor grades and submit when the deadlines are due. You can also buy term papers online and submit in order to beat the deadline and have good grades.

How to get motivated to write a term paper?

The intricacy of writing a term paper can be handled easily when you get to know what motivates you to write. Some of the tips which can motivate you when writing a term paper include:

No one is perfect in writing. One cannot easily craft an ideal prose. You have to work hard on it though it comes easily to others. Practice makes perfect and this gives room for improvement and the opportunity to gain more expertise and enjoy writing.

Once you have written your term paper, you need to go through it and correct the mistakes you come across. When your ideas seem not to flow, you can easily re-write though it is a process which can be quite irksome. You should learn how to embrace it in order to better your writing skills. Knowing the significance of writing as a student is essential since it inspires you to write with the aim of articulating something about yourself and your future. You can use your articles to create something big like sharing them as blog posts or opening dialogue via social media.

The ideal means of motivation is writing with the aim of finishing. Your inspiration is best realized when you know you can and will complete the assignment. Your security in accomplishing this lies in finding a focused environment which is in support of your writing.

Common struggles when writing a term paper: why can it be so complicated?

Writing is a process. In order to perfect the art, you require time and effort to grow and develop into a great writer. However, there are some challenges experienced when writing. You get to encounter many struggles which lead to developing a dislike in writing. Some of these challenges include:

When you get to know what is required in the term paper, you may see writing as a complicated activity and choose to write just for the sake of writing. When to start writing the term paper is a common challenge among many of students. Writing a term paper when it is almost due date is a clear path to failure. This hinders you from getting started and choosing the ideal topic. The thesis for your term paper will be hard to identify since you will be rushing to complete the assignment.

Citing resources can be quite intricate as it is hard for some students to comprehend. There are some who are not attentive thus they may miss out on what is taught on how to cite resources. If you do not comprehend how to cite resources and do deep research, your topic will lose meaning thus you will end up a failure.

Lack of general knowledge on how to write a term paper gives you away. You are most of the times clueless of what is required of you. Lacking the basic skills you need to know when writing a term paper can lead to you not having a concept thereby having a poor quality paper. Students fear that they ought not to have a perfect paper thus end up composing complex paragraphs. It gets more complicated when your assignment does not flow and you give up on writing.

How to stop being afraid of the writing process

The challenges encountered when writing a term paper are quite many. While in college, however, I came to discover that the fear of writing eventually comes to an end and it is upon you to make an effort and ensure that you are making progress. Some of the tips stated below can help you overcome the fear of writing.

Writing is all about building confidence and believing in oneself. Criticisms should always be welcomed and be used as a stepping stone to learn and develop your writing.

Writing requires determination. This will help in boosting your morale in writing. Writers at www.essaykitchen.net state that continuous practice strengthens you and it gives room for improvement. Through much practice, you will learn to write more and more. Custom made term papers can help you learn how to go about when writing.

There comes a time when you are given an assignment and you do not know where to begin. You can easily state the topic and jot down points that relate to your topic in order to make it simpler when writing.

Perfect term paper writing requires that you know your surroundings. This makes your paper more appealing since you familiarize your paper with the environment. Knowing your environment enables you to get more ideas when writing a term paper.

Read widely as well to help you have a wide view of the world and to expand your perception of certain concepts.

Wrapping it up

In conclusion, writing a term paper is not as intricate as presumed. Challenges are always there and it is through them that you will be prepared and more confident in finishing your paper. Essentially, you will be able to avoid common errors and improve tremendously.

Game of Gadgets: Be a Wise Techie with These Simple Tips

Wazzup Pilipinas!

New gadgets are popping up faster than you can say the word supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (try saying that really, really, quick). That smartphone or electronic device you got last month is already halfway to being obsolete in a couple of months. Just look at the rate Apple and Samsung have been producing advertisements for their new phones.

Old models will be replaced by their brand new cousins with bigger and faster memory, clearer displays and more powerful cameras, in addition to a whole suite of new features. It’s a never-ending cycle.

But does that always have to be the case? Is it worth it always spending a big chunk of your hard-earned cash on to keep up with the trends, while your old gadgets sit one side, barely used after only a few months.

Most of us want to own a good, reliable gadget. Bonus points if it looks pretty. After all, inggit or envy has lead more than one Filipino to replace their devices even if they didn’t actually need one. It’s almost like a game or a race to see who can own the best and latest device first.

But to keep saving and putting aside that kind of money every few months (I’m looking at you, iPhone X) can be tough.

Here are some simple tips to get ahead of the game and come away with a winning device.

Know your priorities

It’s not wrong to indulge every now and then but know your priorities. As the old adage goes, “Live within your means.” Just because you can afford it now, doesn’t mean you absolutely have to buy it now. Reward yourself with that big buy after you’ve taken care of all the essentials.

Bonus tip: Do more with less. Get yourself a gadget that will benefit not just your lifestyle but your work or studies as well.

Take care of your gadgets

Like anything, gadgets last longer when they are well taken cared of. That means buying protective cases for them and generally handling them carefully. Too many knocks, cracks and scratches aren’t just bad for your phone’s over-all look can also damage the fragile internal components. So there are benefits to being mindful when handling your device.

Sell your old gadgets

Well-maintained gadgets that still look and perform great can be sold for a good sum. If you decide that you want to buy a new gadget, you can sell your old ones to someone else who needs it. If you’ve taken care of it, it’ll probably still function as good as new. You can then use the extra cash for your next purchase. Win-win!

Nehro Jacovf Ranay (@qualitygadgetsonline), a notable gadgets Carouseller offer this useful tip on how to sell preloved devices.

“Set your price in the middle of the lowest and the regular price for the item that you are selling,” he suggests. Pricing your gadgets too low may cause doubts on the usability of the product you’re selling, while setting a higher price might put off potential buyers due to cheaper alternatives.

It is important to remember that ALL buyers will always take into consideration getting the best value they can get for every purchase they make, preloved or otherwise.

Nehro explains further, “Setting the price in the middle is the best way to catch the audience attention because this gives the potential buyers a middle ground for buying. “

Be on the lookout for good deals

Be sure to keep an eye out for deals like sales and promos. On preloved marketplaces like Carousell, some users just want to declutter and get rid of their stuff at very reasonable prices Just be patient in looking for a good deal.

Carousell provides a platform for people with similar or related interests to come together and share their experience. For example your one-year-old cellphone might just be the gadget someone on a tight budget is looking for. Not only will it benefit the buyer, it will also help you net decent cash so you can buy a new cellphone.

In his experience, Nehro adds that Carousell has been a great place to sell his gadgets online. He makes enough selling electronic devices that it’s almost a part time job on the side of his studies.

It has been great due to the increasing amount of people using Carousell. More and more people view our phones and gadgets resulting to a higher total revenue.”

Gina Iniong Views Rematch with Mei Yamaguchi as Gateway to World Title Shot

Wazzup Pilipinas!
Gina “Conviction” Iniong has been a professional martial artist for the greater part of the last seven years as the six-time Philippines national Wushu champion’s extensive experience has brought her from the boxing ring to the Muay Thai circuit and eventually to the ONE Championship cage, where she has chosen to pursue her dreams of becoming a world champion.

Soft-spoken and generally reserved, Iniong admitted that it has been difficult adjusting to the spotlight.

While the biggest stars relish their time in front of the cameras, Iniong prefers to do her talking on the battlefield.

“Although I have been in this game long, I am still very shy. I do not think I will ever get used to talking to a large group of people. Speaking my mind and sharing my thoughts is a lot scarier than being inside that cage, that is for sure. It is better to let my fists do the talking,” she said.

Ever since she directed her career path to ONE Championship, Iniong has let her actions speak louder than her words as she looked absolutely dominant on the global stage.

The 28-year-old Team Lakay product battered Natalie Gonzales Hill en route to a unanimous decision this past April.

In front of a hometown crowd last 10 November at ONE: LEGENDS OF THE WORLD, Iniong extended her winning streak inside the ONE Championship cage to two matches with an outstanding second-round finish of Indonesia’s Priscilla Hertati Lumbangaol.

Exactly fourteen days after her remarkable conquest of Lumbangaol, Iniong will make an immediate return to action to face Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi in a three-round atomweight encounter at ONE: IMMORTAL PURSUIT, which takes place at the state-of-the-art Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on Friday, 24 November.

Iniong accepted the offer to fill in for ONE Atomweight World Lee Angela Lee, who withdrew from her title defense against Yamaguchi after suffering injuries from an unfortunate car accident nearly two weeks ago.

The aforementioned atomweight collision on the main card of ONE: IMMORTAL PURSUIT is a rematch from their first encounter three and a half years ago under a regional show in the Philippines, where Iniong pulled away with a razor-thin split decision victory over Yamaguchi.

Iniong believes that her second meeting with Yamaguchi could be seen as a stepping stone to a future shot at the world title.

“That is my ultimate motivation, to become world champion. That is why I joined this organization, to showcase my skills and to prove to the world that I have what it takes to be the best. My opponent is a good striker, so I have no doubt that this will be an entertaining contest,” she stated.

Iniong would have no qualms about going into an instantaneous title shot against Lee should she be victorious over Yamaguchi on Friday.

“I will face whoever ONE Championship wants me to face. I am ready, anytime. But I have my eye on the champion, and I want that belt,” she declared.

As Iniong is set to step inside the ONE Championship cage for the third time this 2017, she has a clear vision in her mind.

Iniong knows that she will be locked inside the steel structure opposite a familiar foe like Yamaguchi, but she also recognizes what she has to do to get the job done.

“I will try to finish my fight in with a first-round knockout or submission. This is an opportunity to put me closer to my dream. I am giving everything that I have to get my hand raised this Friday,” she ended.
