NEC Launches LoRaWAN Compliant Network Server

Wazzup Pilipinas!

NEC Corporation announced the global commercialization of a new network server that complies with LoRa (Long Range) WAN, a new wireless communication technology, and LPWA (Low Power Wide Area), which creates wide area networks with low power consumption. NEC will begin providing the new products to communication carriers from this December.

The new server carries out ID control, data rate control and channel allocation for sensor devices complying with LoRaWAN through the LoRaWAN gateway. It also mediates data processing from each sensor device to the application server. Moreover, as the LoRa network server features a function for conducting flexible multi-tenant and multi-device control assuming a variety of service provision formats of communication carriers, it is capable of providing LoRaWAN network services to numerous companies and service providers. Furthermore, its WebAPI capability makes it interoperable with a wide range of service applications using LoRa. This facilitates the utilization of data collected from sensor devices.

In recent years, the spread of new IoT services has created a growing need for the control of devices and information collected via networks. In relation to the promotion of smart cities in particular, a system that consumes low levels of power is required for collecting information from a wide range of sensor devices, such as health check meters and environmental sensors.

Since all kinds of sensor devices are expected to connect to networks in the future, LoRa is expected to be widely used as a communication technology for IoT that saves power in the collection of a wide range of information.

“This new server enables new IoT services to be flexibly provided to telecommunications carriers in combination with gateways and end-devices,” said Shigeru Okuya, Senior Vice President, NEC Corporation. “NEC aims to provide LoRaWAN compliant solutions to companies around the world in the coming years as part of accelerating the creation of new IoT services and improving user convenience.”

“It is an honor to see NEC providing a network server that utilizes LoRaWAN and helps to promote the realization of a plentiful and safe society using IoT,” said Hiroyuki Nakamura, Executive Officer, Chief Director of 3rd Sales, Oi Electric Co., Ltd. “Our IoT initiatives include the development of prototypes and demonstration experiments for the provision of an original LoRaWAN gateway, communications units and various dedicated devices for telecommunications carriers and other companies. These new links with NEC’s network server will help to establish a system for the reliable introduction and operation of these products.”

“NEC’s network server integrated with Semtech’s LoRa Technology will give operators a competitive advantage that will contribute to society,” said Marc Pegulu, General Manager and Vice President of Semtech’s Wireless and Sensing Products Group. “LoRa Technology offers long-range, low-power capabilities for next-generation IoT applications in vertical markets, including smart cities, smart building, smart agriculture, smart metering, and smart supply chain and logistics.”

Fans will be treated to another exciting evening of authentic martial arts action as a three-round atomweight bout has been added to the blockbuster event, pitting Japanese martial arts veteran Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi against Filipino top contender Gina “Conviction” Iniong.

Mei Yamaguchi, ONE Athlete, stated: “I commend Gina Iniong for taking this match on a short notice. She is a good martial arts artist with promising potential in the division. Brace yourselves for fireworks.”

In her last bout, Yamaguchi submitted top contender Jenny Huang impressively within two rounds. Another tough opponent awaits her at ONE: IMMORTAL PURSUIT as she is set to square off with Gina Iniong of the Philippines.

Hit Bisrock Musical ‘Gugmang Giatay’ To Hit Manila Nov. 26, 28-30

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Cebu’s runaway theatrical hit - the original Bisrock jukebox musical, GUGMANG GIATAY will be holding limited shows in Manila on Sunday, November 26, 4 p.m., during BGC Passionfest, and again from Tuesday, November 28 until Thursday, November 30, 8 p.m. All Manila performances will be at the Globe Auditorium of the Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC Arts Center, Taguig.

Written by award-winning songwriter Jude Gitamondoc and Internet sensation Rowell “Medyo Maldito” Ucat, GUGMANG GIATAY is your (a)typical romantic comedy, with a good dose of maoy moments, hugot lines, and acerbic Bisaya humor. The musical features landmark Bisaya hit songs, both contemporary and classic, written by such iconic talents as Max Surban, Cattski Espina, Insoy Niñal, Jude Gitamondoc, Medyo Maldito, and Junior Kilat, among others.

Synopsis

A small, close-knit neighborhood is #shookt when Inday, a down-to-earth girl, lets slip that all is not well in her relationship with Undo, her long-time musician boyfriend. A surprising sequence of events ensue as gossip, pretense, and confessions lead them and their closest friends and associates to address the situation in their own well-meaning but often misguided ways, leading to even more complications. The disparate group proves that while love is indeed accursed, it can lead to surprisingly desirable ends, if one lets it.

The Manila staging of GUGMANG GIATAY will feature award-winning actor Bong Cabrera in the role of Ben. Cabrera is known for his role in the 2011 film Sa Ilalim ng Tulay, for which he won the award for Best Actor in the Cinema One Originals Digital Film Festival. He also won Best Supporting Actor for the 2013 film The Guerilla is a Poet in the CineFilipino Film Festival.

The other cast members are as follows: Von Saw, Lourdes May Maglinte, Shiella Pestaño-Gemperoa, Shane Reseroni, Joer Gallur, Paola Pia San Diego, Jeyve Daño, Jan Echevarria, Davelyn Cuenco, Heidi Pogoy, Alem Garcia, Malaya Macaraeg, Kristian Ray Malintad, Dion Cecilio, Lauire Tul-id and Dustin Tagalog.

Sarah Mae Enclona-Henderson, the producer of GUGMANG GIATAY, says she backed the stage musical because she believes it has the power to touch lives. “I had fun reading the first draft to the final uncensored book,” she said. “I could not let go of it! I love it so much and I believe that Filipinos deserve to see it on stage. It has the potential to transform the theater scene here in Cebu and hopefully make Cebuanos a more supportive and engaging audience.”

Genuinely funny and entertaining, GUGMANG GIATAY also aims to elevate local pop culture to the musical stage. The musical, in its entirety, is a tribute to anything and everything Bisaya, says Enclona-Henderson.

Tickets may be acquired through www.ticketworld.com.ph.

GUGMANG GIATAY is produced by 2TinCans Philippines in partnership with the BGC Arts Center, in cooperation with Offbeat Concepts Production House. The oldest beauty pageant in Asia is back in the Philippines with forty-two beautiful and empowered women from all over the world vying for the crown.

Miss Asia Pacific International (MAPI) has been around since the 1960s and is now under new ownership and management. The organization has positioned itself to be a pedestal for women who want to be the voice of celebrating beauty and harmony in diversity - empowering women to embrace and exercise their individuality, and encourages them to respect and appreciate those of others.

More than having the girls compete with each other, the organization is focused on forging solidarity among the girls and inspiring them to be epitomes of a strong and confident woman who is proud of herself, her culture, and everything that makes her what she is. This is not just another beauty pageant – this is a program that hopes to create ambassadors that ignite positive change in the global community.

17th Grand Wine Experience Scheduled on November 24 at Marriott

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Selected bloggers were invited to witness a prelude to the 17th Grand Wine Experience at the Wine Museum Boutique Hotel where a few participating brands from the wine industry presented their brand and treated us to some wine tasting.

The event is organized by one of the biggest wine importers and distributors in the Philippines - the Philippine Wine Merchants (PWM). The event is to be held on November 24, 2017, Friday, starting at 5 PM and will again be at the same venue as last year's - the Grand Ballroom of the Marriott Hotel, Newport City in Pasay city, and surely promises to be even bigger and better than the previous runs.

We are convinced because this will be our third time to attend the event and if considering the first two runs, we look forward to another feast of not only wine but also food from the great chefs of Marriott.

We can still remember last year's liquor and cuisine feasts where we could hardly visit all wine stalls, and the sumptuous food that were a great match, plus the epic dessert that came down from the ceiling. We are now wondering how the organizers would be able to exceed what they have done already from the past years.

The Grand Wine Experience started from featuring 11 countries, now there are more than 20 countries and counting brought all together by the Joseph Brothers in a single event. Each country offers not just one but several wine brands and variations so be sure to ready to taste a heavenly list of wines at the event.

Because a real epicurean knows by heart what good wine is and the true enjoyment it brings so this event was made not only to showcase them the best wines that the PWM has to offer but also to cater them different varieties of courses perfect for pairing with different wines and spirits. This is where Marriott comes in with their delectable dishes that will surely be more than delightful when paired with the wines at the event.

Despite the lavishness and luxury of the event, PWM never forgets their social responsibility that’s why to share their success and blessings, every year, proceeds of the Grand Wine Experience are donated to ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc., to Project Pink and to T.E.A.M. (Tourism Educators and Movers) Philippines. . Not just that, one of the Joseph Brothers, Chairman Robert Joseph is a well-known tourism advocate in the country and he uses this event for his advocacies in promoting the tourism industry of the Philippines with the help of the Department of Tourism.

We recorded all the presentations during the bloggers event so please do check out our YouTube channel for the videos. Photos are available also at our Facebook fan page.

LCUP’s Year-End Triple Treat—Culinary Awards, Degustation Dinner, Venue Launch

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Malolos Vice Mayor Gatchalian Continues to Honor the City’s Gastronomic Heritage Artists

La Consolacion University Philippine’s Chef Jeremy C Malcampo marks another milestone in LCUP’s academic history with their year-ender Seven-Course Molecular Gastronomy Dinner—a triple treat of culinary awards, degustation dinner, and venue launch—themed “SATORI from the Kensho Zen Tradition.”

Indeed, Chef Malcampo’s concurrent roles as Director for Culinary Arts, General Manager for Café Barcelo Food Services, and Vice Dean for the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management cannot be discounted.

He set up the Culinary Arts Program for LCUP after “we got him from La Consolacion College Manila,” confides Sister President Imelda A Mora, OSA, PhD. “LCUP is now recognized in Bulacan as a leading culinary school.”

Malolos—A City of Gastronomic Heritage. Through the tireless support of Malolos City’s Vice Mayor Hon Gilbert “Bebong” T Gatchalian, an engineer and staunch cultural advocate, LCUP levels up its presence in the province of Bulacan not only as an academic hub that specializes in hospitality and culinary arts but also as a provincial center for the Gastronomic Arts.

As Vice Mayor Gatchalian promised—“to continue to seek out, recognize, support, and preserve Maloleño heritage by awarding recognition to its heritage artists”— during the first graduation degustation dinner earlier this year, LCUP honors Adobo Magazine alongside three icons of the city’s rich culinary heritage: a second-time awardee and two first-timers who are institutions of popular Malolos cooking.

Joining Nanay Mercy D J Antonio, for heir to the 1820 Maloleño classic “Empanada de Kaliskis,” to receive the prestigious Chef’s Culinary Award are Ms Divina P Iso of “Valenzuela Bahay Pawid LTB (Lugaw Tokwa Baboy)” and Mr Gregorio S Dela Cruz of “Gorio and Mimi Special Kakanin.”

Bahay Pawid is a third-generation lugawan that is also known for its lumpia and kutsinta. “Our family started as a rice dealer, but when the business went down we turned to the lugawan business,” shares Miss Iso. “To promote our lugaw, we dared customers to try our lugaw and pay only if they are satisfied—if not, they get their bowl for free!”

Vice Mayor Gatchalian, who lauded the awardees by citing their place in the city’s history and heritage as leading proponents who helped shape the Maloleño palate and popular food consciousness, recalls being greeted by the store’s mynah bird and feasting on Mang Fil’s lugaw and tokwa—along with a horde of students from Regina Imaculada and Don Bosco—and craving for Tatay Gorio’s bibingka.

“Cooking is an intangible heritage that forms a big part of our identity—of what we are as Maloleños,” he avers.

Cultural promotion and heritage preservation are two valuable responsibilities that all of us should take to task; not only because these two are upheld by the Constitution, but also because through these two “we build nationalism, nurture patriotism, and promote human liberation and development.”

LCUP—A Center for Gastronomic Arts. While guests marvel at the tidbits of Malolos culinary history and heritage during the awarding ceremonies hosted by CITHM Dean Rossette C Tanwangco, this semester’s batch of graduating Culinary Arts students treated family, friends, and guests to a cornucopia of unique concoctions that make up their Japanese philosophy-inspired multicourse taster’s feast.
