The Collectors' Sale Offers Stellar Finds and Affordable Luxury

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"A thing of beauty is a joy for ever: its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness." - John Keats

Salcedo Auctions presents its most popular sale of the year, featuring fine and decorative art, statement jewelry, antique and modern furniture and décor, and rare books and maps. Celebrating the joy of collecting, the almost 400 lots in The Collectors’ Sale gathers a rich and diverse trove of pieces that appeals to every purveyor of style. At the center of The Collectors’ Sale on Saturday, 4 June at Three Salcedo Place is one of the most exciting BenCab pieces to come to the market in recent memory, a very rare 1972 acrylic painting by the National Artist, which was a part of his first Larawan series exhibition. An ode to nostalgia, these works were borne out of the artist’s fascination with vintage Filipiniana photographs, books and ephemera that he collected while living in London in the 70s. Other works from this seminal series are presently in the private collections of the Zobel and Lopez families, as well as in museums such as the CCP and the Ateneo.

The sale will also feature two large-scale works of importance—the first, an extraordinary untitled oil on canvas of six nudes by six leading modernist painters, Cesar Legaspi, Justin Nuyda, H.R. Ocampo, Jose Joya, Galo Ocampo and Solomon Saprid, and the second, the graphic Memorial Souvenir by Ronald Ventura which comes from his A Thousand Islands one-man show at the Tyler Rollins Fine Art gallery in New York in 2011. National Artists Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Ang Kiukok, Carlos ‘Botong’ Francisco, Vicente Manansala, and Arturo Luz , as well as leading modernists Lee Aguinaldo, Roberto Chabet, and Danilo Dalena are also well represented in this auction.

Statement jewelry will be offered such as a Bvlgari ‘Alveare’ diamond bangle and a pair of stunning tourmaline and amethyst ear clips, and ornate rings from the renowned jewelry house, H. Stern. Antique collectibles will also go under the hammer, such as a rare pair of 18th century sterling silver ramilettes, a late 18th to early 19th century ivory image of the Immaculada Concepcion, a pair of 19th century ivory Victorian candle holders, and French art deco silver. Included amongst other international art pieces is a signed limited edition ceramic plate by Pablo Picasso, as well as other fine examples of European crystal and porcelain from Bernadaud, Charles Schneider and Baccarat. Rounding up the sale are tribal and ethnographic objects (including a wide variety of bululs), antique Filipino furniture in kamagong and balayong, as well as a fine collection of maps, prints and books to fit every taste and price point.

Preview for The Collectors’ Sale starts on Friday, 27 May and runs till Friday. 3 June, 10-6pm at Three Salcedo Place. This auction is presented in partnership with PHILUX. The online catalogue is available at salcedoauctions.com. Inquiries + 632 659.4094 / 823.0956 / 0917 894.6550 or email info@salcedoauctions.com.

Indio x Cielo EP Launch

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Music is a language. It is a way of communicating, and ultimately, it has become an anti-depression, a way for broken people to express, a way to heal, and gigs have become a venue to escape from reality. Two of the new aspiring local bands in the Philippines, Indio and Cielo, have conspired together with Tambayan Productions to launch their songs. This EP Launch will be held on June 11, 2016 7PM at 888 Vibers, Pasay City.

Indio is an alternative-rock band formed in November 2015 whose songs tell about the consequences of dreaming. One is, Habagat Amihan, a folk rock song about fate, desires ultimately turning to a hurricane that leads to shattering. Two: Sino Ka, about not knowing yourself anymore. And three, Alexis, the believing and doubting of the self's ability to succeed. They believe that songs are stories, real ones, and should convey something that can cause a revolution. The young band currently consists of lead vocalist Jen Darlene Torres, bassist Alfredo Tan, drummer Niño Miguel Abesamis, and guitarists Ryan Alexis Abesamis and Al Bryan Zabala. They dream to rock the world with hope.

While, Cielo is a Filipino rock band who also began in November 2015. They started playing cover songs of rock bands such as The Beatles and Queen and later on transitioned to make their own music at the beginning of 2016. Their first song was “Secret Lies”, followed by “Cielo, Paalam”. Cielo is inspired by the musical instrument cello, when their former guitarist mispronounced the word. That's when the band decided to adapt the name “Cielo”, a feminine name in contrast to an all-male band. Cielo's members include Gines Matthew Alvar (vocalist), John Ryan Casimiro (bassist), Mark Jonnel Icalla and Jonas Mahinay (guitarists).
