Promate 240: The Portable Generator for Recreational and Residential Use

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We were in a desperate search for a generator or an alternative power source when the country was once suffering from abnormal power outages and black-outs. I remember my father concocting up something with the car battery and was amazed how he was able to make it power a light source from it. I was so young back then that it was already something magical for me.

The curious me was expected to tinker with the setup and I could see the clamps and cables running from the battery to the light. It could also run a mini electric fan but we never tried hooking it up to the television.

Now that we can afford to buy a generator, the main problem is the huge space it requires and the noise it will produce. I always prefer to work late at night until the wee hours of the morning so I'm afraid the neighbors may complain if I run the generator during that time. We could probably have that setup at our home in Pateros or at our rest house in Rizal province, but we cannot really do that at our "condo" in Pasig.

Now that Powertech Asia Pacific introduced a portable indoor generator they are calling Promate 240, and for less than 10k only, we are given a better option for our household power needs. I've seen from their mini demo skit that it can even run the LED TV while the electric fan and lights are simultaneously running. That's something we would appreciate especially during the rainy season when we experience more brownouts and power outages.

When Viral and Trending News Need to be Subdued or Intensified

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A panelist at a break-out session in one of the conferences that I attended once said that we should not be antagonizing the "big players" like those who monopolizes the industry since there's only one or few choices out there. We should be working with them instead since no one will be eager to work with you if you start out the relationship with ill thoughts towards the other. Instead we should focus on the positives they say. However, it is sometimes hard to ignore and not give any comments about the shortcomings and intentional drawbacks to progress especially if those responsible are coming up with absurd resolutions that only restricts, limits and gives us no choice but submission.

Just like the deafening question of whether we should react about the 12 year old child celebrity Andrea Brillantes who recently trended in social media because of a video scandal, we are split into either talking about it due to curiosity and our eagerness in sharing the latest news, or staying away from the issue out of respect to the people affected.

Though the issue about the oligarch monopolies is so totally different from the viral scandal involving the underage, both issues divides our decisions and warrants us to ask everyone else if we should side with a team or remain apolitical, and if we should protect the innocent and promote respect, or continue in sharing the news as it happens and how it happens.

We add to the noise if our news reporting is not based on well-researched information coming from reliable sources. But for those of us who do not have access to such privileges just like the big publications and TV networks, we try our best to release "balanced news and fearless views" coming from what is readily available to us. You'll be surprised that sometimes it is within the noise where we can find the most significant information.

Galileo is Awesome: The 3rd Singapore Math Learning Festival Plenary and Sessions

Wazzup Pilipinas!

What does Abbey Fleck, Richie Stachowski, George Nissen, KK Gregory, Hart Main, Frank Epperson, Sarah Buckel, Kelly Reinhart, Chester Greenwood, and Cassidy Goldstein have in common?

If you will Google their names, you might get results that they are just some of the inventors who came up with ideas at a very young age. At a time when most kids are playing with their toys, these individuals are patenting their creations giving them the right to earn from the royalties when their products are used and sold.

Galileo Enrichment Learning Program shares the vision of nurturing children to grow up like these bright minds by proving them with top class and innovative learning methods that traditional schools could not offer. It is within their classrooms where children reach their full potential to be more globally competitive.

The learning center recently held its 3rd Singapore Math Learning Festival's plenary and learning sessions last July 4, 2015 at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati city. The whole day activity had educators all gathered to listen to speakers who have excelled in their respective fields and shared the knowledge, insights, skills and technologies they know for the benefit of the attendees.

The learning methods and ideas will hopefully be echoed to other teachers so they can all teach their students valuable ways to become more productive and efficient.

What is The Ideal Size of an Investment Condo?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In condo investing, size does matter. But whether to go smaller or bigger is the more pressing issue. After all, how the buyer and investor plan to use the property in the medium- to long-term will help them determine the ideal size of their next condo purchase, because the condo’s size has a lot to do with its eventual profitability.

With this, global property portal Lamudi Philippines gives out advice on the ideal size of a condo property depending on the type of investment.

IF YOU BUY AND HOLD…

Go bigger

Investors who plan to purchase and hold on to the condo property in the long term are better off with bigger units: those with three bedrooms or at least 150 sqm. Although these condos are definitely more expensive than smaller ones, they offer good returns in terms of capital appreciation. In fact, according Colliers International Philippines, luxury three-bedroom condos in the three markets it monitors (Makati CBD, Bonifacio Global City, and Rockwell Center) are expected to appreciate in value by between 5.1 and 6.3 percent by the end of this year.

Where to buy them

These properties are usually found in Metro Manila’s business districts, such as the Makati CBD, Ortigas Center, Rockwell Center, and Bonifacio Global City. However, not all condos in these areas can be considered “luxury.” Smaller condos (less than 100 sqm), even those advertised as three bedrooms, cannot be considered as such and, thus, have lower resale value.

Manila Improv Festival 2015: Amazing Improv Troupes from Katipunan to Poland

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We recently witnessed the performances of  just some of the 19 Improv troupes that are scheduled to perform at the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) theater for the Manila Improv Festival 2015.

The Manila Improv Festival is now on its 3rd year and is considered the country's biggest gathering of Improv performers from all over the world.

As publicist Toots Tolentino said, "from Katipunan (representing Philippines) to Poland (from where one of the improv groups came from)" improv artists will be showing how good they are in the art of improvisational theater - a form of theater where most or all of what is performed is created at the moment it is performed (at the spur of the moment as what most of them will say).

Improv requires greater talent from the artists as there will be no script as a guide. You need quick thinking and an elaborate stock knowledge matched with a great sense of humor in order to be able to please your audience.

You'll be laughing out "really" loud at every scene, so be warned that you'll step out of that theater almost out of breath due to non-stop improv fun.

LRA Allows Titleholders to Access and Verify Titles Online

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Good news for property owners and buyers. The Land Registration Authority (LRA) will soon allow the public to validate the location of their titled property, inform property owners about Registry of Deeds action on their property by way of Short Messaging Service (SMS) or text message and give them the opportunity to trace their titles’ history and legitimacy through computerized information.

Within the year, the LRA will launch three additional services -- the Lot Location Service (LLS), Title Transaction Alert (TTA), and Title Trace Back (TTB) -- under the Land Titling Computerization Project (LTCP).

LLS lets the public verify land title locations, and possible errors and inconsistencies in the Technical Description of their titles. The TTA alerts landowners via SMS whenever their titles are accessed at the Registry of Deeds. The TTB enables them to trace their title’s history and verify its legitimacy without having to go through the current rigorous processes.

Bunched together under the e-Titling Project, the LTCP provides the public with an efficient, reliable and expeditious service that also maintains a secure and accurate record of titles, including identification of fake land titles. The project was launched in 2013 but still has to be fully implemented.

E-Commerce Entrepreneurs Summit 2015: Sharing Insights and Strategies for Economic Growth

Wazzup Pilipinas!

With the rainy season already here in the country, it's during this time that I prefer to mostly stay at home. As much as I love the cool breeze outside as compared with all the sweating I get during summer time, braving the unpredictable rains and getting my shoes and socks all soaked in flood water was never really appealing for me. Though I can wear again all my fancy jackets and hooded rain gears that makes me look like a cool model doing OOTD, a mysterious secret agent doing undercover, or a superhero on his way to fight my arch nemesis, I still prefer sporting just a collared shirt matched with jeans I've been wearing for weeks already plus my trusted comfy rubber shoes.

It is during these wet days that I love staying in bed and just transact online for both necessities and conveniences which are now quickly being one and the same. I'm talking about routine errands like paying monthly utility bills, and desirables like ordering the latest smartphone models at online shopping sites. It is surely very much convenient being able to fetch a taxi, order food, book a restaurant, a hotel or a flight within the comforts of your home with just a few clicks or swipes on our smartphones or tablets.

The digital natives embrace these technologies so much that they welcome all current and incoming technological conveniences especially those that can be accessed via mobile apps. The i-Metrics Asia Pacific Corporation report of between 7 to 13 % Philippines’ E-Commerce Intensity Index of our country's gross domestic product will soon quickly increase, while the E-Commerce Maturity Scorecard's average of 25% of Filipinos confidently using the Internet for both purchases and payment, has no other way to go but up.

The Riddle of the Sphinx Sets July 13, 18 and 25 Shows

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Artist Playground and Talent Factory proudly presents its 1st season opener “The Riddle of the Sphinx” which will run on July 11, 18 and 25 ( 3 pm, 5 pm and 7 pm) at 1701 The Little Room Upstairs located at Landsdale Tower, Mother Ignacia Avenue corner Timog Ave., Q.C.

“The Riddle of the Sphinx” written by Eugenio Deriada in English and translated in Filipino by Jim Bergado, is a play about two strangers exploring the diverse viewpoints regarding the intricacies of a human being, the relationship dynamics of a man and a woman and the fundamentals of cultural imprinting through a game that they played while waiting for the buses that will take them to their destinations.

The Riddle of the Sphinx is a play beautifully written but probably, was never given the proper limelight that it deserves. It is one of the many gems of Philippine Literature awaiting the song of its muse so that the beauty of its letters and words will come to life.

Giving life to the two interesting characters of the play are Ace Urieta (Young Man) and Shiela Espina (Young Woman) Both are talented emerging actors under the tutelage of Artist Playground’s Artistic Director and multi-awarded actor Roeder Camanag.
