Tanghalang Ateneo, the longest-running theater company of the Loyola Schools of the Ateneo de Manila University, celebrates its 36th season with the theme “Navigating Identities”. To articulate this, the company will stage plays that explore man’s need to find himself and his place in the world.

After a successful production of Han Ong's "Middle Finger" last August, the company now focuses its attention on Glenn Sevilla Mas's "Rite of Passage: Sa Pagtubu kang Tahud (An adaptation of a Kinaray-a short story by Maria Milagros Geremia Lachica).

The play was first produced by Tanghalang Pilipino for the Virgin Labfest, the Cultural Center of the Philippines' annual festival of new plays in 2005.

Set in Catungan IV, a quiet barrio in the province of Antique, the play opens with a painful ritual that propels reluctant, young protagonist Isoy into manhood. As he is seduced by the promised pleasures of sex, Isoy bravely confronts his past in a bid to take control of his future, and the truth can be as overwhelming as the lurid images of scantily-clothed women in magazines.

Presenting the "Romeo & Juliet The Musical" by Kids Acts Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's been years since I watched a live musical play. The last one was a ballet show featuring Lisa Macuja, one of Manila's famed ballerinas at Aliw Theater, CCP. A few weeks ago, I had a chance to watch another live musical play this time just a few blocks from Aliw which is in Star Theater for the "Romeo & Juliet The Musical" by Kids Acts Philippines. This play as well all know is a reenactment of William Shakespeare's famous novel but it was made it clear by the production that it will be performed without sacrificing the original texts of the author to let young adults understand and comprehend on how the play is written. The dialogues are sung with full observance of how phrases are being read.

Watching these young actors and actresses portraying the characters was like me being transported when I was a student because I used to memorize these same exact lines just to pass our English literary subject. I wished we should have watched a play like this before because the learning is much better from watching than just merely reading a full text about it.

Though I find it hard to keep up with the fast conversation of the characters, maybe because the lines are written in heavy medieval English. I was also sitting beside my fellow bloggers they also say the same thing. I think it is better if they can also have a Tagalog version of "Romeo & Juliet The Musical". This does not mean though that we doubt the capabilities of the actors by any means but I think we can have this play closer to our hearts if spoken in our language.

Many people are now becoming more comfortable buying stuff online especially using their portable and handy smartphones. The Internet had indeed opened so many opportunities for other technologies to sprung up and be noticed.

Right now, mobile apps are in the verge of ruling the e-commerce world, if not yet considered as claimed and conquered. A lot of start-ups have made a name for themselves with primarily the online community to thank for. Of course, there's so many potential to become a lot bigger, and more financially rewarding.

Take for instance online shopping. It was noted that a 39% increase was established compared to last year’s second quarter based from an infographic released by Realex. This only goes to show that online transactions are still on the rise and will continue to increase in a quarterly basis.

But is it really safe and secure already to deal with online transactions? Though there may be a few scams going around trying to dissuade people to trust online deals, there are so many initiatives and efforts to make our online dealings better than physically being there. This is very helpful now that the Christmas season is so very near, and many of us would like to escape the crowded shopping malls when buying for our season gifts.

Shoppers all over the Philippines can now have a more secure online transaction with the Lamido Safepay – the escrow service of Lamido that allows consumers to avoid fraudulent transactions on the internet.
