Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: The Innocent Bone

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“The unsolved Collins case, done on May 2009 at the Collins residence (Woodwork Forest) consists of the murder of Brad Collins and disappearance of two people, namely Cooper and Elaine Collins. For eight months, investigators still has not conquered more evidences regarding the crime. Cooper is considered the prime suspect due to his unexpected disappearance with his wife. Grace Collins, the only witness to the crime, had bruises and wounds all over her body when she was found in the streets. However this does not prove the innocence of the 15 year old girl. She stated that she escaped from the house because of Cooper’s attempts of maltreatment. This holds a strong verification against him and is now searched for months.”

Strange things make us curious. Challenges make it intriguing but what I know is that I can’t be lost in all of that. This odd case I’m handling is simply a matter of time and I need to search and be patient. I can’t be pressured, I can’t be intimidated. My team sees me as the head of their game; hence, I should play that role.

I proceed to the hospital to visit Grace. I entered the room 308, well-lighted with white walls. I saw her lying in the bed - pale and sleeping as usual.

“I can do this for hours” I thought “just stare and then watch her over”.

The only one left after the tragic event of her family. The only hope for my break, the one who holds the guidelines for resolution.

Suddenly, she wakes up and opens her eyes.

Orpheus and Eurydice: Love Story Between a Demigod and a Wood Nymph

Wazzup Pilipinas!

As per Wikipedia, a myth is a traditional story, especially one concerning the early history of a people or explaining some natural or social phenomenon, and typically involving supernatural beings or events. According to the internet, greek mythology is the body of myths and teachings that belong to the ancient Greeks, concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. One example of greek mythology, is the story of “Orpheus and Eurydice”

Orpheus and Eurydice” is a story of a demigod who is best known as the greatest musician who fell in love with a wood nymph named Eurydice. But there is man named Aristeus who became a trouble to the major characters. Eurydice was bitten by a serpent. The poison of the sting killed her and she descended to Hades immediately.

Orpheus was so sad about the loss of his love that he composed music to express the terrible emptiness which pervaded his every breath and movement. He was so desperate and found so little else meaningful, that he decided to address Hades.

As the overseer of the underworld, Hades heart had to be hard as steel, and so it was. Many approached Hades to beg for loved ones back and as many times were refused. But Orpheus' music was so sweet and so moving that it softened the steel hearted heart of Hades himself. Hades gave permission to Orpheus to bring Eurydice back to the surface of the earth to enjoy the light of day.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Two Sides of Pride

Wazzup Pilipinas!

This story is filled with references to my own life. Like the narrator, I have excelled in academics during my grade school days, I never failed to get in the top ten in a class of thirty students but this streak came to a screeching halt at high school. The first year was torture for me, I barely got through because of my inability to keep up with the pace of the school. I went from one of the top students to one who barely passed his class. Like in the story, the first year was a wake-up call for me to step up my game.

“ I am not the nicest guy in the world, I know that I am not as smart as I would like to be nor am I as strong either. You told me that I can be who I want to be with the right motivation.”

Last but not the least, the main idea of the story is one of the things in my life that I have yet to finish. I am a quiet but prideful person so I wanted this theme to fit in my story. My mouth betrays my mind, I say that I don’t care if I fail, I don’t care if I get hurt but in reality I would cry if it happened and cry again if I got hurt. I put up a strong front but my heart might as well be in my sleeve. My pride as a person to me and my pride as a person to others often conflict in quiet combat and I hate it. The last scene of the story is my saving grace, that no matter what happens that small rope that is hidden in a person I know will be my only hope in getting back up from this fight. My hope lies on that person’s words they will give me if I were ever on the brink of defeat.

And the reason I wrote this analysis in first person is a step in winning this conflict. I will refer to myself as me rather than refer to myself as another person.
This quote is my own, this is my own belief. This is what I think will lead people to a successful path but it is also a belief I can never follow for I lack the main ingredient, motivation. The narrator is someone whom I want and partly fear to be in the future. I want to be successful but I am scared that I will never be content with my success hence the predicament he is in right now.

Below is our short story for the day.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Maybe

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"You know what Summer, you've changed a lot." If I got a dollar for every time I hear those words, I'd probably be swimming in money right now.

"You're not like that before, what happened to you?" asked my friend.

"Weren't you informed? Change is inevitable." I answered laughing. Honestly, I'm tired of answering their questions questions which I'm pretty sure they know the answers.

"BUT we miss you," I stopped and glanced at her, "We miss your crazy antics, your irritating laugh, and your everything― everything you were before. When will "our" Summer come back?"

"Girls, cheer up! It's still me, it's not like I grew another pair of eyes. Besides, you'll get used to it."

If it weren't for you, things would have not turned out like this. If you didn't leave me, maybe things would still be the same. I would still be the same old Summer.

Wazzup Pilipinas Original Short Stories Series: Rookie

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It is a great sunny day at Francville. I can hear these basketball fans cheering their teams. I feel excited but nervous at the same time. Who wouldn't? It's my first time here in the finals. I can't wait to play for Francville! But who am I in the first place? I am Jae Jordan, a student of Francville University commonly called F.U. But, it doesn't matter.

So, back to business. I can hear the crowd cheering for our team. Why not? It's our home town. 2 minutes left and the game will finally start! Coach Joseph calls for a huddle; we must not lose this game!

There we go! The time is up! The sport's commentator is calling the names of each player! Yeah, as usual, I'm not part of the first five, or the so-called starters. So yeah, I'm here, sitting on the bench, watching and cheering for my team. But that's fine.

"Jump ball!" Shouted the commentator. Both centers jumped high! Unfortunately, our opponent, the Blue Fields team got the possession of the ball. They immediately looked for their star player, first shot, and it’s good! The three point shot sinks in for the Blue Fields team. "Three!!!" shouted the commentator. The ball was inbounded by our captain. On the way to our side of the court, the ball was stolen! They passed it again to their star player, again, he took the shot and again, it's in! Great start for the Blue fields’ team!

Asian Premiere of British Choreographer’s Murakami – Inspired Works At The Peta Theater Center

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Bestsellers like Haruki Murakami’s “Norwegian Wood” have long inspired film, TV and theater adaptations worldwide – but dance? Touted as a “rising star” by Britains’ national daily, the Independent, British choreographer James Cousins dared to.

British Council, PETA Theater Center and the Cultural Center of the Philippines are delighted to present the Asian premiere of British choreographer James Cousins’ contemporary dance works: the highly-acclaimed There We Have Been and its sequel Without Stars. Shows are on Thursday, October 9 (8pm) and Friday, October 10 (3pm and 8pm) at the PETA Theater Center. The twin-bill production will next tour Malaysia and Vietnam this year.

There We Have Been focuses on the first half of Murakami’s novel, wherein two dancers enact the development of relationships between the novel’s protagonist and his late best friend's girlfriend. This duet sees English performers Aaron Vickers and Lisa Welham intensely folding, wrapping and balancing, with the female character never once touching the floor.

Without Stars tells the other half of the story. Framed from the male protagonists’ point of view, the piece for three dancers tells the story of a man on the brink of losing the life of his love. The dance piece features international contemporary dancers Albert Garcia (Spain), Chihiro Kawasaki (Japan) and Georges Hann (UK).
