Karate Kid : Japanese Restaurant in SM Megamall

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Last August 18, 2013, my brother and I had a trip to SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City after attending mass. We went to a Japanese restaurant named the Karate Kid to eat our lunch.

On our way to SM Megamall it was raining really hard. Oh! How wished it was sunny that day but it wasn't, sucks for me, getting wet by the rain, it was really cold.

After arriving at the mall there weren't that many people inside, maybe it was still early. We walked around a few times before going to the Japanese restaurant. It was a really long walk from where we were to the Karate Kid.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted in Japanese, I wanted to greet them back but I felt embarrassed. Then we looked for a place to dine in and there were many people but not enough to occupy all of the tables.

The F Stops Now : The Life and Work of Modern Photography Masters

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Photography is used by amateurs to preserve memories, to capture special moments, to tell stories, to send messages, and as a source of entertainment. An amateur photographer is one who practices photography as a hobby and not for profit. The quality of some amateur work is comparable to that of many professionals and may be highly specialized or eclectic in its choice of subjects."

But eventually these amateurs may soon become professional photographers based on how intense their passion for the art will develop. Some amateurs already have a keen eye to produce works equal or even superior than what professionals may produce.

I guess it's all in the eye, and how you perceive the beauty of everything around you. Many have the most interesting angles or point of views, the proper amount of lighting, the right blending of colors, the precise timing to capture a moment when its best to immortalize an image.

There will come a time when these amateurs will turn into masters...and their works displayed, appreciated and praised by the whole world.

Zoobic Safari : Subic's Finest Theme Park for Mali the Elephant

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It has been confirmed that Mali will be moved to Zoobic Safari really soon!

Why Zoobic Safari? Is it better than the Thailand sanctuary that PETA and other activist groups have been longing for Mali? Will it give Mali the much needed space for her to move freely and comfortably as compared to her previous home at the Manila Zoo? Will Zoobic Safari also give Mali the opportunity to live with her own kind - the company of fellow elephants?

The issue why the management of the Manila Zoo is against the transfer of Mali to Thailand was because they believe Mali will be going through a rough time traveling form the Philippines to Thailand. Will it be better for Mali to just travel within the Philippines - from Manila to Subic?

These are just a few questions that needs to be answered.

Globe Telecom Seeks to Install ODAS Solution in Forbes Park

Globe Telecom is seeking an approval to install outdoor distributed antenna system (ODAS) in Forbes Park in Makati City in a bid to improve connectivity in the upscale subdivision.

The first telecommunications company to make use of the ODAS technology in the country, Globe Telecom is offering the use of ODAS as part of efforts to deliver stronger mobile phone signal for its subscribers, in step with its network modernization initiatives.

“The ODAS solution is best suited for urban and suburban areas that require signal enhancement. It will address perennial wireless signal concerns as well as future mobile service needs of the residents while meeting the height restrictions, social acceptability and aesthetic issues of the community,” said Emmanuel Estrada, Globe Head of Network Technologies Strategy.

Survivors and families of the ferry collision victims make use of Globe Libreng Tawag center to keep in touch with their loved ones.

In quick response to Friday evening’s Cebu ferry disaster where a number of people died and over a hundred still unaccounted for, Globe Telecom immediately sets up two Libreng Tawag centers which victims and families of those affected can use to establish communications with their friends and kins.

The first Libreng Tawag site is at the Pier 4 Terminal in Port Area where about 300 survivors are staying while the second Libreng Tawag center is in Sugbutel, one of the two hostels which house the other survivors.

Marikina : Two Libreng Tawag Stations to Serve the People During Typhoon Maring

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom set up today two Libreng Tawag stations in Marikina City to assist residents who are staying in evacuation centers due to heavy rains brought by Typhoon Maring since Sunday afternoon.

The Libreng Tawag centers are located at Bulelak Gym in Brgy. Malanday and H. Bautista Elementary School in Brgy. Concepcion Uno, two of the biggest evacuation sites in Marikina City.

Through the free call and text service of Globe, evacuees could remain in contact with their families and friends to assure them of their safety or to request for aid if necessary.

“We are in constant evaluation of the situation. Once, the residents return to their homes, we will transfer our Libreng Tawag stations to other places which may also need our assistance,” said Fernando Esguerra, OIC for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Bringing Light to Residents of Taal Volcano Island

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Forty-eight year old boatman Redentor Bahadia has been living without electricity all his life. Not because he cannot afford to pay for it. It so happened that the entire Taal Volcano island where about 5,000 people reside remains unconnected to the national electric transmission grid.

To make matters worse, Reden has to shell out over P100 a day or more than P3,000 a month for the two liters of gasoline needed to keep his generator going for 12 hours. The amount is much higher than the electric consumption of an average household in Metro Manila.

At night, when he takes the 30-minute journey from the island to the mainland, Reden has to rely on his battery-operated flashlight to provide illumination along the lake, thus, spending a couple of pesos more for disposable batteries.

Reden is not alone in this predicament. Other residents of the volcano island who use kerosene for their lamps like 28-year old Lenie de Villa also have to spend P30 a day per bottle or P900 a month, making a huge dent in the meager income that they get. On top of it, they also pay P5 just to charge their cellular phones.
