Zamboanga Adventure: Exploring Asia's Latin City (Zamboanga Golf Course and Beach Park)

Golfers are considered elite because golf is a precision club and ball sport which requires a lot of patience. It is a very slow sport that will never excite me at all. Don't hate me when I say "playing a ball with a club from the teeing ground into the hole by a stroke or successive strokes in accordance with certain rules" is really boring.

But that doesn't stop me from enjoying my time exploring a certain golf course in Zamboanga. However, maybe the fact that it has a beach park beside it was good enough reason why I found it really pleasing. So when I get bored trying to put my balls in a hole...wait that sounded wrong...anyway, I can just walk a few steps and get all wet and wild at the bitch...Oooppss....I mean the beach. Lol!

The Zamboanga Golf Course and Beach Park, originally known as the Zamboanga Golf and Country Club, is located some 5 km from the city hub in Upper Calarian west of the city. It boasts of being the oldest golf course in the Philippines. But wait, though the golf course has been around for ages, the maintenance and renovation of the place was impeccable!

American Brigadier General John “Black Jack” Pershing served as the first President of its club which also featured polo, afternoon teas and dances during their time. This 64 hectares golf course is a gem having a fine layout with winding fairways, tough elevated greens where some are protected by huge spreading acacias, a good mix of left and right doglegs, long par-4s and great short holes.

It was said that Filipinos were banned from using the golf course before (now that was an insult to us Pinoys), but now everybody can enjoy playing on its greens, and when you get tired of playing golf you can go swimming, diving or snorkeling (pag may time) at the beach.

Nearby is the beach park where several huts can be rented.  There were several couples occupying almost all of the huts when we passed by, and one couple was even being very intimate while dipped in the waters.

The beach park was rehabilitated creating more amenities to improve its surroundings aside from the rehabilitation of the access road leading to beach park and the historic golf course.

The Zamboanga Golf Course and Beach Park is located near the Arcillas Beach Resort and La Vista del Mar Beach Resort. It is really a great place to bring your loved ones if you want a bit of privacy since the huts are situated at a few distance from each other. It was not crowded when we visited during that afternoon weekend.

Maybe one of the newest amenities built was the tree house that was even larger than the tree house located at Pasonanca Park. However, this was designed for just hanging out while having a drinking spree or binge eating with your barkada, colleagues or family.

I can see our van from above, as well as the magnificent views of the place from all sides of the tree house. This beats the Pasonanca Tree House as you will never have the same vista provided by the well-maintained Zamboanga Golf Course and Beach Park.

The greenery is soothing and very relaxing especially for the troubled mind who wants to get away form the hectic work schedules back in Manila. An opportunity to appreciate nature doesn't come everyday so we better make the most of it when it comes.

You will fall in love with the tree house that definitely has superb workmanship. I would love to have something like this at my dream home or rest house similarly somewhere amidst nature and the seas.

Guests have the option to stay in the nipa huts available on its grounds. I could see that this particular group of huts have electricity since I see them operating a television inside.

 

There's an area where you could also play some volleyball here but be very careful you don't hit the ball to hard because that means saying goodbye to your ball when it gets thrown in the seas

They have newer constructed facilities erected by the shore but it seems it is still incomplete. There are portions that are missing like the roof of one of the structures, but the place is usable already for certain activities.

The blue seas which stretches beyond the horizon is far from just beautiful. It is more than enchanting. It is beyond mortal words to describe. I wish I could have stayed longer in Zamboanga. I will miss it so much!

I have more stories of Zamboanga to share and trying my best to publish them all before summer ends...hehehe. My intention is to convince you all out there that Zamboanga is one of the best places to visit while the rainy season is still far.

Aside from swimming in its beaches, dining at its fabulous restaurants, and appreciating the natural wonders it has to offer, they have many heritage sites worth immortalizing as a background view along with your "selfies" and group shots.

I agree when they say that it's more fun in the Philippines, but I should shout out that "it's doubly more fun in Zamboanga!"
