Demolisyon : To Recognize and Respect Our Heritage Sites

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A group of Architectural students made extreme efforts to come up with a youth conference to encourage individuals to recognize and respect our heritage or historical sites in the Philippines.

Many are perhaps unaware that the actual representations of our history are slowly becoming things of the past to make room for development and new structures. In the name of progress, we are now losing our heritage structures and are being replaced by modern establishments. What is sad or demeaning for me if these memories of a great history were demolished and flattened only to be replaced by parking lots or parks.

With the recent earthquakes that struck Cebu and Bohol where many historical structures like churches collapsed, it makes me think twice if we really need to preserve old and decaying structures, or it is necessary to bring them down and build ones with stronger foundations.

Fantasy Fest 2013: Awesome Street Party at the Keys

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Enjoying Fantasy Fest 2013 here at Key West, Florida.

The Fantasy Fest, a street party held annually on the last week of October, has grown to rival New Orleans' Mardi Gras as a grand event drawing even out-of-towners.
Traditionally October has been a slow time for tourism in the Keys, but since its inception, Fantasy Fest has continually boosted the economy by filling up hotel rooms and inundating local businesses, restaurants, and bars during this time period.

The tremendous influx of visitors during the ten days of the festival sustains the local economy until the holiday season begins.

Commune Cafe Hosts the Third Wave of Coffee Event

Wazzup Pilipinas!

And I thought I blogged about this already...now I realized I must have drank too much coffee that day that I skipped writing about this event. Well, it was because I originally assigned it to somebody, but then I showed up when I tried to catch up and attended the event even though I was late...and so I was just confused...thinking somebody will be writing it for me...I guess it was really the coffee - made me so dizzy...hehehe

The event at Commune Cafe was nothing short of a good afternoon because we got to know and observe the use of some cool kitchen gadgets - which magically makes coffee.

I never imagined there could be handy kitchen devices that can be used to concoct different ways of making coffee. Thus coffee is no longer just a drink - it is an art!

Third wave coffee culture has arrived bringing with it an intensified interest in independent coffee roasters.

Region 2 Tourism Council Adopts Mandatory Accreditation of Primary Tourism Enterprises

Wazzup Pilipinas!

In the recently conducted Cagayan Valley Region Tourism Council (CVRTC) Assembly, the officers and members of the CVRTC endorsed Resolution Nos. 3 and 4 to Tourism Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez, Jr. supporting the Department of Tourism (DOT) in its accreditation function as provided in the Republic Act No. 9593 or Tourism Act of 2009.

Tourism Secretary Jimenez was the guest speaker in the CVRTC Assembly held last 21 October 2013 in the Province of Quirino. The gathering was attended by local government officials, owners of accommodation establishments, travel and tour operators, and other tourism industry practitioners.

In the resolution, the CVRTC strongly encourages tourism enterprise owners to apply for accreditation under the provisions of Republic Act No. 9593, particularly the mandatory accreditation of primary tourism establishments and voluntary accreditation of secondary establishments. The DOT Standards of Accreditation is governed by internationally accepted standards to ensure that DOT accredited tourism services and facilities are at par and competitive with the rest of the world.

Bohol Tourism Back In Business

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Bohol’s tourism industry is well on its way to recovery with the reopening of the Loboc River Cruise last 24 October 2013, which had an unexpected turnout of walk-in visitors outnumbering those invited. Other attractions that have reopened include the Tarsier Habitat and the Chocolate Hills Adventure Park.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 7 office reports that roads leading to most of the tourist attractions are now passable, with roads from Tagbilaran City to Carmen via Corella already open to light vehicles (cars and vans). Most tourism establishments have also resumed operations, and owners are discussing measures on how to implement the swift turnaround of their businesses. These include providing alternative routes and tours, as well as promotional offers.

During her visit to Bohol last Friday, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Country Mission Director Gloria D. Steele committed USAID’s support by extending technical assistance to the DOT and Bohol stakeholders in the preparation of a recovery plan for the Cebu-Bohol Tourism Development Areas (TDAs). DOT Region VII Director Rowena Montecillo gave an initial post-disaster assessment, while the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) evaluated the impact of the earthquake on the access and discussed the rehabilitation measures needed in support of the tourism program.

WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo : A Dual-Drive Storage System

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We were invited for a product demo at the WD Digital Lifestore, the concept store of WD at SM City North EDSA in Quezon City. The store is located at the SM Cyberzone located at the SM City Annex building.

A friend and I came from several events that day but we made sure to catch up on the activity. Though we were so late to have some complimentary snacks, and missed on a chance to win a device from WD via raffle they held for the attendees we were still treated with a demo of the WD My Book Thunderbolt Duo  - a dual-drive storage system from WD.

We regret being late, but promises to make up for the awful tardiness...Yeah, we are to blame because we had too many event invites that day and could not have the guts to decline.

Every event was just too good to pass so we really tried our best to attend all or even just catch a small portion of each.

Trend Micro Asks "What's Your Story?" For the Safety of Our Children

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Who is not worried about their kids when they access the Internet? If you're not concerned, then you should be before it's too late!

Sadly, the online world can corrupt our kids to think differently and negatively. They are not safe, no matter how much you think that the net is harmless. It may really be educational, but our kids may be learning more than what they should know.

Trend Micro Incorporated, in line with its advocacy to keep our children safe online, put out a call for young Filipinos to submit video entries designed to inspire others of the same age to ensure safety on the Internet.

They dubbed it as "What's Your Story?", a global online competition that is aimed to encourage the sharing of online usage experiences among teens and young adults to spread awareness about the dangers that lurk online and how to safeguard oneself through online safety practices.

Epson Compact AIO A3 Printer Recognized In Japanese 2013 Good Design Awards

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Seiko Epson Corporation recently announced that its EP-976A3 all-in-one inkjet printer (sold in global markets as the XP-950) has been selected for a Japanese 2013 Good Design Award. These awards recognize designs that enrich life and society as a whole.

The EP-976A3 is designed for people who want a high-performance printer that can print out A3 sheets yet can be installed in the same space as an A4 all-in-one. Featuring a footprint more typical of an ordinary A4 printer, this all-in-one produces crisp A3 photos and documents with gorgeous detail. The clean, simple, compact design of the body also provides far greater freedom of installation.

Judges' comments

"When a user prints over WiFi, the output tray, which automatically extends, and the control panel, which automatically tilts upward, make perfect sense when design is considered from a behavioral standpoint. The user interface is similarly designed with affordance*, suggesting the next action to perform on the touch panel. In addition, the minimalist design is beautiful, a result of Epson's efforts to provide A3 output from a printer with A4 compactness. The flow of operations is designed for true ease of use, with affordances that suggest the next selection. "

Pino Resto Bar Jupiter Turns 1! : Congratulations and Happy Anniversary !!!

Wazzup Pilipinas!I love everything proudly Filipino. I believe there is no Pinoy dish that I don't like yet except for those that were badly, or wrongly, cooked or prepared. Yeah, both the taste and the presentation counts a lot. The looks add a great plus points to make the food more appetizing other than the smell and taste for its the first personal body sense acting up that really makes sense if you think about it. Everthing should be done and prepared gourmet-style to attract more interest and create a sensational gastronomic delight for the enjoyment of our palate.
The Pino Pochero in the photo above is composed of tender beef and pork stew with crushed tomatoes, saba, kamote, pechay and chinese chorizo. The touch of a half-sliced egg floating on top adds not only beauty but appropriate creativity in adding a unique taste to the dish. Well, Ive cooked pochero, but I haven't used an egg along with the ingredients, also the Chinese chorizo is something new for me.

The dish is brought to us by Pino, a Fine Filipino Food restaurant and bar located along Jupiter street at Bel-Air, Makati city. Pino transforms favorite Filipino fare into creative dishes, surprisingly combining flavors, textures and ingredients. Pino is passionate about giving you delicious food that comes from the heart.

Urbanize! : Your One-Stop Urban Lifestyle Shop

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I recently bought online a new sling bag to replace my already worn out favorite, but the one I bought was not really that good. It was not that tough for my requirement - I put my Sony Alpha NEX camera only in my sling bag to make it very accessible and convenient for my use especially when I go out covering events. The new bag, which I wasn't really able to actually see because I just browsed it over the Internet in one of the popular online shopping portals, was so weak. It was not designed to provide protection for your gadgets because there was no padding or protective features that will make sure your gadget stays in great health.

My prayers were answered when I was invited to attend the launch of a second branch of Urbanize located at the 5th floor of EDSA Shangri-La Mall East Wing in Mandaluyong! I was very lucky that they provided as tokens for the media a sling bag, originally designed for an iPad and other similarly shaped gadgets like tablets or phablets. I swear I was jumping up and down (only inside) upon seeing the complimentary gift.

The sling bag had protective features that will guarantee the safety of my camera, and also my phablet and other small stuff, because there was still has room in the bag for my "abubots".

Superbook in Tagalog Episode : Let My People Go - The Parting of the Red Sea

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Yipppee!! Isa na namang masaya at super cool na adventure ang ating natunghayan last Saturday morning sa #Superbook Tagalog, #LetMyPeopleGo! Maraming salamat sa lahat ng mga nanood! Please LIKE this article kung napanood mo ito.

They have given a good twist to the story but the relevance was still there. Superbook is the best show to watch with your kids to instill moral values to their young minds so that they will grow up as respectable members of our society. We need more respectful and well-mannered behavior among our countrymen and we can only be successful to have that wish if we start molding them while they are still young, eager and "moldable".

Matigas na ulo natin kapag tumanda na tayo, and the youth is so aggressive that they will venture into anything if we don't guide them right and proper.

I think last Saturday's episode was the best so far that I've seen. The parting of the sea still "rocks" for me. Imagine the wall of water as you pass by. Amazing! and a great miracle, indeed!

Rob Schneider Live in Manila : Congratulations to a Hilarious One Night Only!!!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I did tell Rob Schneider that he was my favorite comedian. I can laugh all day at his style of comedy, and never get tired of watching his movies, lead-role or not. I laugh more at his wacky antics than his good friend Adam Sandler, especially when he plays a nemesis of sorts to Adam's character in the movie. His facial expressions, body movements, and those expressive eyes, are the best!

This 2011 Emmy-nominated actor never fails to impress me even when he does stand-up comedy. He said they'll be trying to perk up stand-up comedy for the world, and that includes the Philippines and the rest of Asia where he is doing a world tour and on their move to setup a project involving stand-up comedy.

His one night performance at the Solaire Resort and Casino was a real blast! My wife and I had the opportunity to watch him live and alive at the Grand Ballroom of Solaire Resort and Casino last October 28, also attended his morning presscon earlier that same same.

You could say Rob Schneider "knocked our socks off" or anything similar to that expression (not referring to any Google search result to confirm - I trust myself) both at the press conference and his performance. I could sense that he is truly proud to be half-Filipino and loves his family and mother (whom he mentions a lot on his jokes) so much. Congratulations also to his 11-month old baby!!! Rob Schneider is a proud, proud, proud father!!

Asian Massage : A Strees-Free Relaxing Afternoon

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Tuesday,  October 15, 2013, marked  another  exciting day of my life as a wife and mom because my husband brought me to the number one pioneer in massage since 2005, the ASIAN MASSAGE.

This is located at Greenrich Mansion Building at the back of Richmond Hotel in Ortigas. I tried the Seomyeong massage using Japanese Moguza.

Amy, the therapist gently massages my entire body starting from my back, legs, feet, hands and lastly to my head. It was a magnificent feeling. I was relieved from my stress both in work and as the light of our home. I thought having a massage is somewhat leisure and need not have it at all but I was totally mistaken because it enlivens us to become fresh and worry free again.

Nike Celebrates the Spirit of Filipinos with We Run MNL 2013

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We Run MNL 2013 aims to inspire, motivate and unite Filipinos to move more, move better.

The Nike We Run MNL (Manila) returns for a third edition to inspire, motivate and connect runners around the world. On 1 December 2013, 15,000 runners are expected to take to the streets of the historical Marikina City and run the 10km in celebration of the spirit of unity that is significantly Filipino.

“For this year’s race, we have incorporated the personality of the people of the Philippines to motivate and inspire them to lead a more active lifestyle. Filipinos are kindred spirits who, without hesitation, unite for a good cause and help each other. Taking this, we hope that every Filipino runner can inspire and motivate another and run the race together” says Courtney Cole-Faso, Country Marketing Manager, Nike Philippines.

In the spirit of unity, runners must sign up for the race with a “buddy”. This is to encourage runners to constantly motivate each other to achieve their goals in preparation for the 10km race. Nike will organize training sessions in November to help runners prepare for the race. The training sessions will be conducted in various locations around the city, and runners will participate in Nike Training Club, get tips from athletes and get an experience only Nike can bring.

Silk Road of Thai Bistro : Another Great Reason Why You Need to Try Out Thai

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Never did it came into my mind that they will be calling a meal a "Son-In-Law". Well, I guess the newly-opened Silk Road Thai restaurant at Bonifacio Global City wants to be a little more creative and intriguing for their customers.

Silk Road is actually owned by the same people responsible for one of the best Thai restaurant in Manila, Thai Bistro. The brains behind this new Thai restaurant is no other than Chef Cecille who has gone a lot more creative and fancy with her new baby. She has been focusing her strength to make this new restaurant unlike no other.

Well she boasts of being the only Thai restaurant with top-class menu, authentic Thai ingredients, and food and beverage consultants.

Another Thai restaurant? The difference is that there is a bit more fusion in her dishes here, and the ambiance was specifically designed more for an intimate day with your special someones. Unlike the Thai Bistro at Robinsons Magnolia which is a family restaurant, Silk Road is an ideal place where you are more inclined to take your partner and propose, and most likely get a resounding "yes" as an answer.

Get edUKated : United Kingdom... Here We Come!!!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Who doesn't want to study abroad and rub shoulders with students from all over the world?

I would love to be among the lucky ones to get the opportunity to study in a foreign country and immerse myself to different cultures. It will be both a fascinating learning experience and an eye-opener to further expose me to the rst of the world.

I wouldn't want to get stuck in the Philippines. I would enjoy a few years earning a degree outside the country. I guess many people really look up to those who are given the chance to excel thru world-class education brought about by studying at a prestigious school.

At the Get edUKated event held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, many young people were given the opportunity to learn more about the probabilities of studying in the United Kingdom.

UKEAS, the leading UK educational advisory agency in Asia, continues its strong campaign to encourage Filipinos to invest in their education with this blockbuster exhibition.

Providing essential and timeless fashion for all, the new collections, Holiday Cruise and Linen Story – up the Spring Summer 2014 ante with nautical elements, updated chambrays, summer linens and oxfords in crisp pastel palette.

All aboard cruise lines with posh beaches for stop-overs, Holiday Cruise is inspired by luxurious travels and sandy shores. The nautical theme sails on with a plethora of chambrays and various fabrics like Tencel® offered in a range of washes and prints from heavy indigo to washed-out shades. Transitioning from the blues to a more summery palette, lightweight oxford shirts complete the Holiday Cruise collection. In solid chalky hues, the shirts look smart under a cotton blazer or worn as is. A few dresses add some feminine touch to the entire collection, while male polos with pieced patchwork keep the preppy charm.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Today is the day when we will see the initial telecast of Philip - Lifestyle Guy, this morning at 11 am on TV5!

From his humorous "It's More Fun with Philip" lifestyle magazine and talk show at TV5's news channel, Aksyon TV, Philip Abadicio now has a show on the TV5 main channel which promises to be more interesting and within reach of Filipinos.

During the press launch held at the Rub Ribs & BBQ restaurant located in Kapitolyo, Pasig, the lifestyle show host relates that they will be showcasing both hole-in-the-walls and elite establishments. The show will let you experience various lifestyle genres, at the confines of their own living rooms, and with the fun factor added by Philip and his guests, I'm sure the show will be another big hit!
