First Outdoor Movie Screening, NuCinema : NUVALI Outdoor Film Festival

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Watching movies was never been this fulfilling when you tried it out outside your very own house. An endless field full of grass, the cold gentle wind, couples getting the pleasure from the lake and getting in touch with NUVALI’s scenery. Never did I think of seeing 15 different short films that will showcase such a beautiful enormous place like NUVALI.

Last October 26, NUVALI had its first outdoor movie screening featuring 15 finalists of the first ever NuCinema: NUVALI Short Film Competition. Associated with Asia Pacific Film Institute, Sky Cable and Ayala Cinemas, NuCinema set sights on uplifting, promoting and celebrating the local film industry and also facilitate new talents who aspire in becoming filmmakers. The event acknowledged 15 Finalists of the first NuCinema NUVALI Short Film Competition and screened all 15 entries at the same time.

Judges for the shortlisted films includes Paul Soriano, Jeffrey Jeturian, Jade Castro and Spring Films producer Lucky Blanco. The 15 shortlisted films will be well thought-out for a possible full-length adaptation and will also have the chance to be part of the film production team of Spring Films– an independent film production company, launched in 2009 by Piolo Pascual, together with Joyce Bernal, Erickson Raymundo and Suzanne Shayne Sarte.

In an interview with Jade Castro, he honestly brings up that half of the finalists we’re his favourite and half would be not. He immediately added that for his non-favourite entries it is still very promising and he can see the seriousness for the craft (film) and how passionate the short filmmakers are. He also point out that these group of filmmakers were very talented batch. Jade was astonished about the amenities and said that NUVALI is open for productions and that gives him the idea to consider NUVALI as one of his production place for his next film.

The Criteria for judging the short film we’re given by NUVALI’s committee and Jade’s personal criteria would be something that will surprise him, good composition of story, who’s distinct and who’s going to standout.

On the other hand, Paul Soriano is currently converged with his produced independent film, “Transit” which happens to be this year’s Philippine entry to the Oscar Best Foreign Language Film category together with Jeffrey Jeturian’s “Ekstra” which is shown after awarding of short film.

Top 5 winning short film entries will be given a one year scholarship grant from the Asia Pacific-Film Institute.

Grand winner per category gets a scholarship for advanced course in motion picture and Runner up per category gets a scholarship for basic course in motion picture production.
