UST JMA Athomic: Strategies for the Modern World of Marketing

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The University of Santo Tomas Junior Marketing Association brought us last March 5, 2014 the annual ATHOMIC: Annual Thomasian Marketers’ Intercollegiate Congress!

It was a gathering of top business professionals and students from different universities for an interactive seminar dubbed also as ATHOMICongress. With the goal of breaking the standards of the Marketing world and to start creating our own rules, speakers shared their years of experience to the attendees, not only to educate but also to inspire on how to improve their skills in the field of Marketing.

I came in early, as always, that the organizers were still setting up the registration area when I arrived at the Medicine auditorium of the Martin De Porres building of UST. Actually, I wanted to catch a glimpse of how the preparations were being made, from the setup of the booths and the stage, to the arrival of the attendees. Quite a number came in a few minutes after the call time of 5 pm where majority were college students.

The Marketing gurus invited as guest speakers to share their expertise in the field of Marketing included Francis Kong, Boom San Agustin and the Archetype.

Francis Kong is the Director of Inspire Leadership Consultancy, Inc. He is a leadership and inspirational speaker, a businessman, a columnist, broadcaster and book author, an a businessman.

Thomasian Boom San Agustin is a motivational speaker and corporate trainer. He is a host and producer of SME Forum, and an entrepreneur. He is also a book author who wrote "Be Stupid, Be Selfish, Be Suicidal, Be Successful"

Archetype is a group of students from the Advertising Management of De La Salle University (DLSU). It is a collective of young, bold ideologies and aesthetics geared towards producing and enhancing creative work for advertising and beyond.

Students wearing different uniforms from different colleges start coming in several minutes past 5 pm where majority of which seems to be girls. You will notice that even our organizers from the UST JMA are mostly girls.

Some of them would even gladly smile and pose for the camera.

There were plenty of loot bags available for every attendee courtesy of the sponsors.

I immediately noticed the colorful tarpaulins and booth of their major sponsor. There was a wall where you can post short messages using colorful and variously-shaped post-its.  Their props included a giant pink stiletto where you could pose for some photo ops. I think the students were also invited to answer survey forms, and filled up a raffle form to win prizes from the sponsor after the event.

A huge stiletto decorates the sponsor's booth giving away goodies to the attendees.

Some of the sponsors' tarpalins adorn the stage.

The UST campus in Manila has several colleges with their own buildings having big venues for theater, forums, symposiums, conferences, etc.

The Medicine Auditorium was almost filled up by the attendees that only a few seats were left vacant.

When they said to stand up and pray, I didn't realized that there will be singing. Though great performance that would most probably improve after a few weeks.

The congress was brought to you by: Darlington, Piknik, Scotch, Exped, Hapee Toothpaste and Post-it.
