The first time I ate this wonderful food, I didn't actually thought that it was made out of vegetables and wheat because of the meat-like taste. I was shocked when my dad said that it was made out of  vegetables. Well takuyaki isn't just made out of vegetables, like on the definition of takuyaki at the top of this article, it said that it is typically made out of octopus, tempura scrabs, pickled ginger, and green onion.

A little history about Takuyaki, Takuyaki was invented in Osaka in 1935 by Tomekichi Endo.

Maybe you are wondering how to make this mouth-watering food. Do not worry, I will teach you how cook this delicious food in a very simple way. The only problem in making this delicious food is that you need a special takuyaki cooking pan. This pan molds the shape of the vegetables into small balls.

By the way, here is what a Takuyaki Pan looks like :

 Well, here is the procedure:

Ingredients

  • Benni Shoga (Red Ginger)
  • Ebi (Dried Shrimp)
  • Green Onion
  • Tenkasu (Tempura Flakes OR Rice Bubbles smashed up)
  • Tako (Octopus, chopped into bite-sized pieces)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 ½ cups of Flour
  • 2 ½ cups of Dashi or Stock

Steps

  1. 1
Preheat the hot plate on High with the Takuyaki pan on it. It will take quite a while to heat up.
  2. 2
Make the batter by putting the eggs and the stock in with the flour and mix. Make sure it’s not too thin, almost like a pancake batter will do.
  3. 3
Know that after the Pan has heated up, grease the pan with oil (sesame or rice bran oil is best), and well! After pan is greased, half fill the Takoyaki pans holes with batter, and then put in the other ingredients. After that, fill up the rest of the Takoyaki pan's holes with batter.
  4. 4
Look to see that when the top of the batter is brown, turn the Takoyaki over with a skewer of some sort (use two, one in each hand, if necessary). Keep turning them over.
  5. 5
Serve on a plate with okonomi sauce, mayonnaise, grounded Nori (seaweed) and bonito (fish) flakes.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go and make a Takuyaki, don't forget to share it with us. ;)

  3. The title of your article captivated me! I had a good laugh because of it :). Nice article by the way! The instructions of making one is well thought of but because I'm not much of a cook I'm sure I would have a hard time doing it. Great job nonetheless! Had me craving for Takuyaki right now :).
