PHLPost Launches Commemorative Stamps to Mark 75 Years of International Civil Aviation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) commemorates 75 years of Civil Aviation (1944-2019) with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

The commemorative stamps were officially unveiled by Major General Ricardo C. Banayat, AFP (Ret.), Deputy Director General for Administration (CAAP), Capt. Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo, Undersecretary for Aviation and Airports, Ms. Olive Valderama, Operations Manager, PHLPost Mega Manila Area, Captain Jim C. Sydiongco, Director General (CAAP) and Captain Donaldo A. Mendoza, Deputy Director General for Operations.

ICAO was formed in 1944 through the member states of the United Nations as a UN Specialized Agency. ICAO embodies the spirit of cooperation and dedication of 193 countries to achieve the safe and orderly development of civil aviation throughout the world.

CAAP is the national aviation authority of the Philippines that oversees the entire air transport sector of the country for the Department of Transport (DOT). CAAP operates to ensure a safe, efficient, secure, economically sustainable and environmentally responsible civil aviation sector.

Featured in the stamps are winning stamp designs done by Allan Punay, Jimuel Brazon and Sulan Ray Ramos of the participating CAAP airports and offices. The winners are part of the digital art contest that yielded 38 stamp designs inspired under the theme “ICAO 2019, 75 Years of Connecting the World”.

ICAO and CAAP recognize the importance of stamps since philately, ICAO, and CAAP all aim to break down borders and frontiers, leading to a better understanding between people and nations. Additionally, aviation is a highly popular theme for avid stamp collectors.

Stamps, souvenir sheets and official first day covers of “ICAO 2019 - 75 Years of Connecting the World (1944-2019)” are available at the Philatelic Counter, Manila Central Post Office, all Mega Manila Post Offices, Postal Area 2, San Fernando, La Union, Postal Area 4, San Pablo, Postal Area 5, Mandaue, Postal Area 6, Iloilo, Postal Area 7, Davao, and Postal Area 8, Cagayan de Oro.
