If Aristotle Can’t Be Your Teacher, You Have To Teach Yourself

Wazzup Pilipinas!
Believing that one cannot teach students how to become an artist, but only show what’s its like to be one, Richard Tuttle often said this line whenever he is invited to give a talk at an art school - “If Aristotle can’t be your teacher, you have to teach yourself.”

This line also serves as a reference point for an exhibition featuring works by thirteen contemporary artists – Raena Abella, Juan Alcazaren, Felix Bacolor, Gino Bueza, Monica Delgado, Nilo Ilarde, Lubin Nepomuceno, Jonathan Olazo, Michelle Perez, Juni Salvador, Hubert San Juan, Angel Ulama, and Atsuko Yamagata. Curated by Nilo Ilarde, who noted that “the learning curve does not end in school”, the exhibition is an assembly of paintings, collages, photographs, and objects that are informed by the artists’ own digressions from current precepts and edifications in art.

“If Aristotle can’t be your teacher, you have to teach yourself” runs from September 5-28, 2015 at Galleria Duemila, located at 210 Loring Street, 1300 Pasay City. Fortinet Launches the Industry's Most Secure Cloud-Managed Enterprise Wi-Fi Solution

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Fortinet's New Cloud-Managed Wireless LAN Solution Delivers Wi-Fi Access with an Emphasis on Management Simplicity and High-Performance Security for Wireless Networks and Mobile Devices

Fortinet, a global leader in high-performance cybersecurity solutions − today announced enhancements to its cloud-based FortiCloud management system and a new line of cloud-managed wireless access points (APs), continuing the company's strategic investments and momentum in the secure wireless networking market. Fortinet's "FortiAP-S series" wireless LAN (WLAN) APs are the most secure cloud-managed enterprise Wi-Fi products on the market, featuring Fortinet's cybersecurity technology running directly on the AP and the latest security updates from Fortinet's industry-leading FortiGuard Labs Threat Intelligence team. Now organizations no longer need to sacrifice security when opting to manage their enterprise wireless LAN from the cloud.

Next Generation Cloud-Managed Wireless Access Points

Distributed organizations face many challenges as they deploy and manage a wireless LAN solution for their customers and employees. Current enterprise WLAN solutions often require complex architectures to segment guest and internal networks, while demanding extra hardware like separate WLAN controllers and security appliances. While emerging cloud-managed Wi-Fi vendors have helped to reduce the complexity and management issues associated with deploying wireless networks, moving WLAN control into the cloud has introduced security challenges that have yet to be addressed until now.

Fortinet's new FortiAP-S series of wireless access points empower organizations to forego separate WLAN controllers without exposing the network to cyber-threats. Every FortiAP-S series access point is centrally managed through the cloud-based FortiCloud management system, enabling effortless Wi-Fi network deployment and management, increasing security, visibility and control, and reducing overall infrastructure complexity. This makes it easy for organizations to implement and manage a secure Wi-Fi network, while the scalability of cloud management makes the solution ideal for distributed enterprises that may have thousands of sites.

Samsung Celebrates Culture and Heritage Through 'The Plazas of Manila' Exhibit and Mobile App

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Samsung Corporate Citizenship celebrates the richness of Filipino culture and heritage by using innovative technology to cast the spotlight on historical sites and landmarks.

Once the center of Filipino life, plazas in Manila are either disappearing or falling into a state of disrepair. Few people recognize the historical and cultural significance of these landmarks, and they are often overlooked by heritage conservationists, as well as students of history.

To help Filipinos rediscover Philippine heritage and culture, Samsung and the Philippine Science High School Foundation, Inc. have teamed up to hold an exhibit entitled The Plazas of Manila at Yuchengco Museum with noted architect, designer, and urban planner Paulo Alcazaren as the curator. Open from August 27 until September 18, the exhibit highlights the historical and cultural significance of plazas in Manila, with the use of augmented reality on Samsung’s latest digital tablet and Smart TV technology.

Coinciding with the exhibit is the launch of Culture Explorer, a mobile application that uses augmented reality technology to help people, especially the youth, learn about Manila’s plazas and other cultural and heritage landmarks. The app is virtually a tour guide in one’s pocket, with fresh content and plenty of interesting trivia. It also allows users to navigate around key landmarks and travel back in time to see how the landmark has looked and evolved over the years. Since history is better appreciated with other people, the Culture Explorer app allows users to connect with other Culture Explorers who share their interest in the different sites.

"Through this exhibit, we are able to cast the spotlight on one of the most important elements of Filipino culture and history, the plaza. This exhibit allows us to bridge technology and art together, giving the Filipino youth a chance to learn about their roots," said Linda Cordova, Executive Director of the Philippine Science High School Foundation, Inc.

Revamping Rides this September on DMAX

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Has your vehicle become an antique? Then repair and refurbish this September as DMAX takes you on a restoration trip from home garages to the vast seas. Whether it’s a rustic car or an abandoned ship, DMAX will bring you the fix you need.

Last year, custom car guru Rick Dore and ex-WWE wrestler Chuck Palumbo teamed up to start SLAM, a revolutionary new body shop specializing in the last untapped frontier of classic American automobiles – car hoards. All over the country, classics such as Zephyrs, Mercs, T Birds and Camaros are collecting rust as their owners wait for that elusive “someday” when they’ll finally restore their dream cars.

In the new season of EXTREME CAR HOARDERS, Chuck and Rick offer these hoarders a golden opportunity: they’ll tow away your rusting fleet, sell what they can, and use the money from the sales to turn one of your cars into a priceless, show-worthy vehicle for you to keep. But transforming cars for hoarders is a risky proposition. Finding buyers for rust buckets is never easy, and the restoration and customization business is full of unexpected pitfalls that can sink their partnership for good. Chuck and Rick are all in, and it’s going to be a wild ride starting September 2, airing Wednesdays at 8:10 p.m.

Palami Wants to Ignite Football Fashion in the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Azkals must rack up more wins not only to qualify for the 2018 World Cup but also to increase football’s awareness in the country.

“We feel the pressure of winning not only to qualify (for the World Cup) but also for awareness of the sport in the country,” Azkals manager Dan Palami said.

“We help the sport by winning. The more popular football gets, the more kids play the sport. More players mean more support for the sport and hopefully, the national team,” Palami stressed.

Palami’s dream is to ignite a football passion in the Philippines and make the sport a national obsession similar to other countries.

He said he wants to produce homegrown talents who would inspire more young people to play football and propel the country’s pride.

“We also need to create a passionate fan base to fuel the sport,” he added.

To achieve this, Palami needed to walk the talk, thus his all-out support for and unwavering commitment to the national football team, which is beginning to bear fruit.

Through his efforts, as well as those of other football officials, the Philippine Azkals have come a long way in their attempt to boost the country’s stock in football in the last five years.

State Universities and Colleges' Budget at All-Time High

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Acknowledging the vital role of education in nation-building and economic development, the education budget has grown tremendously under the Aquino Administration. The budget of State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) actually doubled from PhP23.8B in 2010 to an all-time high of PhP46B in 2016. Comparing the 2016 against the 2015 budget, there is an increase of PhP1.6B or 3.6%.

In the 2016 budget hearing at the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Dr. Patricia B. Licuanan defended the agency’s and the SUCs’ budgets. Reports on that hearing have been inaccurate. In response to reports that more than 50 SUCs received budget cuts for next year, it must be pointed out that in truth, only 10 SUCs will sustain net decreases in funding with Philippine Normal University (PNU) getting the largest reduction of 19%, University of the Philippines System (UP System) 16%, and the rest single-digit decreases ranging from 0.59 to 7%.

In the case of PNU whose 2016 budget of PhP558M is lower by PhP132M from its 2015 budget of PhP690M, the decrease is due to a one-time congressional insertion in 2015 of PhP100M and its low utilization rate.

On the other hand, the 2.2B decrease in the 2016 budget of the UP System, from its 2015 budget of PhP13.7B is due to a one-time allotment provided for medical equipment of the UP-Philippine General Hospital amounting to PhP3.1B. Without this one-time allocation in 2015, UP’s 2016 budget actually increased by almost PhP1B.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Curiosity buzzed as inquisitive media reps gathered at the recent event for OLX Philippines, the country’s leading online classifieds platform. It was an intimate event between OLX and the media to talk about the changes since the rebranding and their plans moving forward.

RJ David, Co-founder and Managing Director of OLX Philippines and one of the most successful online entrepreneurs in the country, talked lengthily about these changes. “We want to provide win-win exchanges for everyone by giving consumers equal buying and selling opportunities. How to Throw the Perfect Boodle Fight

Wazzup Pilipinas!

From sending invites to making sure you have food and drinks enough for everyone, planning a party can be quite an arduous task, no matter how much you enjoy having people over. And although having one ‘pot luck’ style is a good hack, your guests would much rather prefer that you, as the host, took care of everything.

The ‘boodle fight’ is a great way to check at least one of your party preparations off your list—setting the tables—because a boodle fight only requires a single long table and a lot of food.

Few know that we have the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to thank for the concept, as the boodle fight originated from the military’s practice of members of the army, regardless of rank, gathering around a long table and eating food spread over banana leaves with their bare hands.

As primal as it sounds (‘boodle’ fight is military jargon for ‘attack the food’ after all), a boodle fight need not be so messy. Just follow these tips to make your boodle fight the talk of your barkada:

Above photo is a typical boodle fight layout. Photo was taken from angsarap.net.

STI Celebrates 32nd Anniversary with Charity Event Together with Musikaramay and Mr. and Ms. STI Candidates

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Last August 10, Climax band performed at the STI Caloocan covered court. Their band qualified as one of the acts that represented the Philippines on the 1st Asia’s Got Talent which was aired via AXN Asia.

The students of STI enjoyed the performance but most importantly, they were able to help and share to those in need while having fun at the same time. Most of the students enjoyed the performance of the band; some of the students joined and sang along together with the songs they performed. All of the money that was collected was used to conduct a sharing in a form of a celebration in Jollibee where the kids enjoyed and received bags and other merchandise that might be helpful for their necessities.

The candidates, along with the sponsors, AOC Monitors, Philips LED TV, Philips Monitors, Globe, Jollibee, Chowking and Yoshinoya, were very much willing to lend a hand to this charity event. The candidates showed willingness to give and exhibited what an STI role model should be and sticked to the brand of the school which is BeSTI. This goes to show that the pageant, Mr. and Ms. STI, is not only to showcase the physical beauty of STI students but also to present to everyone that it goes beyond that; It is not the physical aspect that they aim to uplift, but it is more on what they can do for others that will make them the best role model for their fellow STIers. The aim of the candidates and the institution is to be a catalyst on involving oneself to works that establishes relationship and promotes transformative education.

Here Comes G-Force Project Sembreak!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Students' much-awaited season all school year has finally arrived

Put on your dancing shoes and welcome this year's school break with G-Force Project Sembreak!

Now on its fourth year, Sembreak is one of the baby projects of G-Force Dance Company's artistic director Georcelle Dapat-Sy, more popularly known as Teacher Georcelle. Sembreak is an offshoot of the annual G-Force Project Summer Dance Workshop that began in 2008.

"We call on all dance enthusiasts, students and professionals alike, to be part of G-Force Project Sembreak. We guarantee, not only will you get to learn how to move and groove like G-force, you will definitely have fun and enjoy spending your break with us," says Teacher Georcelle.

G-Force managing director Angel Sy couldn't agree more. "We pride ourselves with G-Force Project Sembreak now more than ever. We now have a different venue for our recital and that should give off a different feel and a different experience to our students."

Divided into two batches, Sembreak Batch 1 is happening all Saturdays of September and October (September 5, 12, 19, 26 & October 3, 10, 17, 24); Batch 2 is set all Fridays and Saturdays of October (October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24). And just like G-Force Summer Dance Workshop that culminates into a showcase of talents, Sembreak will also have its own recital to be held at TriNoma Activity Center on October 30.

UP ACES Presents the National Civil Engineering Summit 2015

Wazzup Pilipinas!

School has just started, but it’s not too early for the University of the Philippines Association of Civil Engineering Students (UP ACES) to make some noise. This September, UP ACES will celebrate its 61st anniversary with its 10th installment of the renowned National Civil Engineering Summit (NCES), a two-week event that will gather over 5,000 participants from all over the country.

True to UP ACES’ tradition of organizing prestigious events, NCES kicks off on September 2 with Jumpstart –a thanksgiving mass and exhibit launch event, followed by a thanksgiving lunch for the entire College of Engineering.

Come September 5, high school students get to participate in InCEthink: Bridge Building Competition, as well as High School Career Talk (HSCT) and CE Laboratory Tour at the NISMED Auditorium and Melchor Hall, respectively. InCEthink will feature over 40 teams, each team competing to create the best and sturdiest bridge while applying their engineering knowledge, creativity, and teamwork. HSCT, on the other hand, aims to introduce the civil engineering field to high school students as early as now, through a series of talks from professional civil engineers. The ideas they will learn will then be reinforced in the CE Lab Tour, which will take the students on an interactive tour around the various facilities and equipment of the UP Institute of Civil Engineering.

On September 10 to 11, around 4,200 civil engineering students will listen to renowned speakers in the National Civil Engineering Symposium at the University Theater. This year, the Symposium will have the theme Cutting Edge: Streamlining Civil Engineering in an Advancing Nation. It will have four major talks relevant to the field of civil engineering and will be supplemented by one inspirational talk. Simultaneous with the Symposium are the CE Laboratory Tour, PROFILES, and the CE Job Fair. Designed to provide a more intimate environment for the exchange of ideas, PROFILES is the newest addition to NCES’ roster of events. It features successful UP ACES alumni engineers in a seminar that will give civil engineering students a better glimpse of real-life civil engineering and provide them with practical tips and advice. Meanwhile, the CE Job Fair allows participants to submit résumés to their prospective companies.

Singapore-Based Budget Airline Fuels Business Growth with NetSuite

Wazzup Pilipinas!

NetSuite Inc., the industry's leading provider of cloud-based financials / ERP and omnichannel software suites, today announced that Scoot, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, has deployed NetSuite as its core financial management platform in a two-tier ERP model aligned with an on-premise SAP ERP application in place at the parent Singapore Airlines.

Scoot chose NetSuite after considering other major ERP solutions due to factors such as speed of implementation, low cost of ownership, real-time business intelligence and reporting, as well as the breadth and depth that NetSuite provides in financial reporting, multi-currency management and budgeting – all within one unified platform.

Since implementation, NetSuite has supported Scoot in its network growth across Asia and Australia, enabling Scoot to attain cost-efficiencies and speed to market. Business agility through NetSuite has been critical in helping Scoot drive its exponential business growth while expanding its network across 15 destinations in China, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand.

Scoot views NetSuite as its core ERP solution in its plan to triple its fleet size over the next several years with 20 new Boeing 787 Dreamliners to increase its presence in the medium and long-haul segment.

“As a startup, Scoot wanted a modern, agile business platform that could scale rapidly while ‘future-proofing’ our company for long-term innovation and growth,” said Ng Long Jian, Scoot Head of Finance. “We looked at other major and more established ERP, but NetSuite was the clear winner in meeting our requirements for cost-efficiency, fast deployment, real-time visibility into the business and flexibility. NetSuite is the perfect fit for Scoot to enable us to transform our business operations and support our growth.”

Philippine Azkals Preparing Hard for 3rd Match on September 8

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Azkals are working doubly hard as they try to seek their third win when they face Uzbekistan on September 8 at the Philippine Sports Stadium in Bocaue, Bulacan, in the ongoing qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

“We need all the support we can get because it’s a tough match," Azkals team manager Dan Palami said. "We need to work doubly hard to get a result against Uzbekistan."

Facing the top-ranked team in Group H, the Azkals hope to draw strength from home supporters as they seek their third victory in the competition.

Kickoff is at 8 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Palami said the Azkals’ feat during their last two games was impressive and that they just need to keep up that high level of performance to score an upset against Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, the Philippines is gaining reputation among foreign football fans as a world-class sporting hub because of the ultramodern Philippine Sports Stadium where the Azkals’ home games for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are being held.

Football fans from countries that will be playing in the stadium will get a chance to view on their TV sets, laptop computers or mobile gadgets the stadium’s state-of-the-art facilities when their teams play with the Philippine Azkals.

“It will be a different viewing experience for fans not only here in the Philippines but also abroad,” Palami said.

Balikbayan Box: Stop Desecrating Our Personal Gifts to Our Loved Ones

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"Balikbayan boxes are often channels of private and personal communication between migrant workers and their families in the Philippines. Is nothing sacred anymore for the Bureau of Customs?" - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago
There are many people that are so violently reacting about the "Balikbayan Boxes" issue which led the government to finally blink! You can't really win in a staring contest against a fog lamp! Now, President Benigno Simeon "Noynoy" Aquino III has told the Bureau of Customs (BOC) to stop the random inspection and “establish a more defined protocol” to clamp down “balikbayan” boxes that are being used for smuggling.

Remember that the government may have some evil entities (like those that can be found at the BOC and other agencies that have access to so many temptations), but many are still honest and hardworking (hopefully). Not all of them deserve a raised eyebrow when they implement something new.

The littlest effort that an agency does should positively be seen as a counter-measure against whatever negative acts like smuggling or anything similarly damaging to the people, the government and the country. Whether it affects the little or big players, it doesn't really matter since it is everyone's job to deter all kinds of illegal acts.

If we find the newly established procedure intimidating or desecrating, we have every right to let these agencies know, but we should not be accusing but only airing our belief and recommendations. Antagonizing the agency may only lead to further retaliation instead of cooperation.

Shapecloud: The Philippines’ First Online 3D Printing Service

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Shapecloud is the Philippines’ first online 3D printing service that makes the creation process easy for anyone with an idea! At its foundation, the platform allows users to upload their 3D designs, have them 3D printed, and delivered right to their doorstep.

3D printing starts by utilizing 3D designs, to serve as a guide for our 3D printers to precisely layer down heated plastic material, until a physical version of what you see on the design is built up! All over the world, people have used 3D printing for different industries, to create scale models of buildings, product prototypes, personalized gifts, and so much more. At Shapecloud, they take pride in being able to work with users to help them better understand how the technology can play a role in what they’re trying to accomplish.

Starting from the comforts of your own home or office, registering an account on www.shapecloud.ph is completely free. Users will immediately be able to see the “upload” button on the home page, and once they’ve uploaded their 3D design, an email will follow when feedback or an approved quotation has arrived! At this point, you might be thinking “What if I’m not familiar with 3D design?”. What’s interesting about this is that there are a multitude of ways to create or find 3D designs outside of using traditional software (i.e. AutoCad, SketchUp, SolidWorks, etc.), and on the “design guide” portion of our website, users will be able to have a list of easy to use apps, tips for 3D design, and also a collection of free file marketplaces. These marketplaces make it easy for anyone to search up pre-made designs that can be quite specific to your needs.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Amidst all the diet meals and “superfoods” available in the market nowadays, it is easy to become overwhelmed with quite a number of options. Everyday is a challenge to find meals that are healthy enough and will not rack up your cholesterol level.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) filtered down the choices with its approval of a health claim that indicates the consumption of 25 grams of soy protein, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, reduces the risk of coronary heart disease.

Such health claim is significant in the increasing traction towards positive lifestyle changes that will help reduce risk of coronary disease in the long run.

Soy foods come from soybeans, which is commonly consumed in the diet as tofu, tempeh and miso, but is also available to consumers as whole soybeans, soynuts, soy yogurt, soy cheese, and soy milk like Vitamilk, which is made from fresh, non-GMO (genetically modified organism) soybeans packed with 8g of protein, 90mg of calcium, 22mg of potassium, and 33g of carbohydrates. Soy is also a good source of high-quality protein, fiber, and omega-3. It is naturally cholesterol-free and low in saturated fat.

Tell-Tale Signs Your Car Tires Need Changing

Wazup Pilipinas!

Safety. Nothing is more important for motorists than this. Car tires play a big part in road safety, so they must always be in tip-top condition. Before hitting the road, makesure that tiresare inflated with the correct air pressure. Check that they are not damaged or defective in any way before the car leaves the garage.

Michelin shares how to identify a few tell-tale signs that will tell you it’s time to change your tires:

1. Tire Puncture. If you see even just one puncture in any part of the tire, install the spare tire to avoid causing further damage to the punctured one. Bring the suspected damaged tire immediately to a professional tire specialist for an accuratetire diagnosis.Running on punctured tiresis very risky especially if you’re already on the road as this can cause the tire pressure to drop rapidly. So, make sure that your spare tire is always in good condition to ensure safe motoring.

2. Worn tire treads.Tire treadsare like the soles of the feet. They are the only contact that the vehicle makes with the road. The deeper the tread, the better resistance to aquaplaning. Michelin recommends changingtires before your tread depth is worn to 1.6mm. (MICHELIN tires have a tread wear indicator at the base of the grooves that help you check the correct depth of the tire tread.) Don’t risk the chance of careening on the highway due to lack of tire traction. Wet roads are especially dangerous.

The Eatles: A Taste of John, Paul, George and Ringo ...Plus Chef Matthew

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There's a new restaurant at P. Noval near the corner of Dapitan, University of Santo Tomas (UST) that showcases British memorabilia and other icons reminiscent of the swinging sixties! Every corner of the restaurant is Instagrammable! From the moment you stepped in to what seems to be a telephone booth, to the very first sight of a London-inspired bu, you'll never stop posting photo updates on your social media accounts with so many spots at the restaurant that's full of memorabilias from the good old days when everything was really cool.

Who else is very popular but the iconic Beatles band composed of John, Paul, George, and Ringo where The Eatles restaurant got their name. The owners just dropped the letter B from the Beatles and now they serve affordable meals to many of the students near the UST campus.

The fast-rising-in-popularity restaurant has what seems to be a replica of a London bus inside which serves as their kitchen partition where you'll see the adorable French chef named Matthew with his kitchen crew busy preparing your orders. They have some al fresco dining seats up front aside from the seats inside the restaurant. The restaurant is small so it may be awkward to stay long or hang around for the Wi-Fi just as what most people, especially students, do at coffee shops.

The food choices are plenty and absolutely tasty for a price that's fit for the average college student's allowance. They offer British-inspired dishes named after the songs and members of The Beatles. According to the chef, their specialty are the burgers. We were able to try one where they used black buns made dark with squid ink. They have different kinds of burgers and the one they served us was very satisfying.

Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight Offers New Flavors of Xiao Long Bao at a Limited Time Only

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We were invited for a lunch treat on August 18, 2015 by a popular Singapore brand restaurant called Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight located at VMall Greenhills in San Juan so they could let us try their new Xiao Long Bao flavors - Hainanese Chicken Xiao Long Bao and Chili Crab Xiao Long Bao.

The new flavors were for the month-long celebration of Singapore's 50th National Day. The new Xiao Long Bao flavors will be available only for a limited time which started last August 1 and will be up to September 30 - that's actually two months of opportunity to drop by the restaurant and order the two new flavors for dine in or take out.

The Xiao Long Bao, which means "small basket dumpling" or is sometimes called "soup dumpling," looks like an ordinary dumpling but what's unique about it is there's usually a bit of "soup" inside. It is served hot so be careful when eating this in one bite. Traditionally, crab meat or shrimp is used as the filling but now Crystal Jade Shanghai Delight is offering Hainanese Chicken and Chili Crab as an alternative for a limited time only.

I bet you already know which of the Xiao Long Bao's, as seen above, is the Hainanese Chicken and the Chili Crab based on the outer color of the dumpling. The reddish orange is obviously the Chili Crab, while the other one is the Hainanese Chicken.

YouTube Community Creator’s Hub Philippines Holds Meet and Greet

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A couple of months after the YouTube Fan Fest held in Manila, a small group of individuals in the Philippines decided to organize a group for YouTube Creators to interact and meet fellow YouTube Filipino Creators. Creator is a term used to describe YouTube user who creates videos and upload them on YouTube. While YouTube Fans, as the name it implies, are the ones who uses YouTube to appreciate (or not) its content.

Despite the thunderstorms and strong winds of the Typhoon Goni (Ineng) last Friday 21 August 2015, the YouTube group of video creators celebrated the holiday by having their general meet up at the Starbucks Trinoma Mall, Quezon City.

The activity started on time at 3 in the afternoon. Participants were initially asked to tell something about themselves and what their channel is all about. Mainly bloggers, vloggers and music cover artists attended the event. Some were part of networks like ABS-CBN’s multi-channel network Chicken Pork Adobo, TMG Philippines and Viva Entertainment. It was a good time to interact as members learn from each other and others networks. Some decided to trade contact numbers for a scheduled video collaboration and cross promotions.

Dr. Joem Antonio to Conduct Master Class at Short+Sweet Manila Festival 2015

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A two-hour play seems still too short for me. If I wanted to get the most out of a story especially if it's a theater version of a popular novel, I would want more content and substance as value for my money. It really is quite difficult for the storyteller to be able to put all the ideas into just a few hours.

But wait! What is this I heard about short plays compressed into 10 minutes? Now that is mind-boggling!

A festival of ten-minute plays called Short+Sweet Manila 2015 will soon be showcasing the works of many of our talented short film makers. But if you are among the many film making enthusiasts who wants to go pro, the same event will also be offering Master Classes this September to be held at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura. The master classes will be presented by both local and foreign experts with many topics related to film making.

Dr. Joem Antonio, Storywriting School founder and course creator, will be among them to share his knowledge and experience in storywriting.  His play, "Death in Ten Minutes," garnered several awards in last year's festival and now he's ready to give back to the theater community. His class will be on September 6, 2015, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The fee is surprisingly very affordable at only P500. To enroll, you may email divya@shortandsweet.org.

He was recently interviewed by a TV station to personally find out more about what he'll be teaching. Below is the transcript of his interview.
