Cash Cab Philippines Ready to Roll with Ryan Agoncillo on December 22

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Who doesn't love the cool and always composed Ryan Agoncillo? He is excellent as a host and has been doing a great job for several years already. No wonder AXN Philippines has chosen him to be the host, or the cab driver, for their new reality game show where passengers get the opportunity to win thousands of cash just by answering a series of questions.

The show will premiere with a back-to-back episode on the 22nd of December at 8:50 pm so better put it already on your respective calendar of events.

During the show, a specially fitted out Cash Cab will navigate the busy streets of Manila while picking up unsuspecting passengers. The Cash Cab will appear as a regular taxi service however, upon entering the car passengers will find themselves as contestants on a truly mobile game show.

With approved questions coming from AXN, the number one general entertainment channel in Asia, our cab driver host Ryan surprises the passengers every time they get on the Cash Cab. Mixed emotions coming from different passengers but definitely a lot of fun and enjoyment while on board the Cash Cab.

At a media launch on December 9, 2015 held at the Aracama restaurant in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Tagig city, Ryan revealed the basic concept of the game show where unsuspecting passengers get to test their wits and eventually winning cash prizes. They say the biggest prize they were able to let out was Php 23,000 and there are opportunities to even double it if you play your "cab" right.

They presented a game almost similar to what's happening inside the cab. I was fortunate enough to volunteer as one of the contestants and luckily to be paired with Ginger Conejero of ABS-CBN as my team mate. With only three questions answered correctly, we went home with a 40" LED TV each as our prize.

In the real game, the cash prize is P1000 per correct answer and there are a few other ways to make it bigger like the double-or-nothing dare, and I'm sure the producers of this show will soon think of other crazy ways to keep the show interesting.

True enough, AXN is delivering an awesome gift to viewers this festive season with the premiere of Cash Cab Philippines, the only game show on wheels.

The Emmy-award winning format, created especially for Filipino audiences, will also have an encore on Thursday, December 24, at 9:15 pm.

Ang Hui Keng, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia said, “Cash Cab Philippines is a localized adaptation of AXN’s very successful Cash Cab Asia so the show will immediately resonate with our Filipino viewers. The show continues our commitment to high quality original productions and sustains the momentum gained from The Amazing Race Asia, The Apprentice Asia and the record-breaking Asia’s Got Talent. AXN’s proven track record of hit series demonstrates a strong demand amongst viewers for shows that are smart, intense, unexpected and locally relevant.”

In the 13 episode series, popular actor Ryan Agoncillo will assume the role of cab driver and show host, driving passengers to their destination while quizzing them on general knowledge. Questions asked during the ride will start easy and become trickier with contestants winning cash prizes for each correct answer. An incorrect answer means a strike, and contestants have up to three strikes before they are booted out of the cab and onto the street, no matter where they are. Contestants will have two “shout outs” for help if they are stumped on a question and can either call a friend or ask a random stranger for the answer.

Gidget Lao, Business Unit Head of AXN Networks Philippines, said, “Cash Cab Philippines is the first locally produced show for AXN in this market, and we are very excited for its debut just in time for Christmas. Ryan is an outstanding show host, and our contestants are great fun and really get into the spirit of the show. Our viewers are really going to love watching this show filmed against recognizable landmarks in Manila.”

Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia commissioned leading independent production company active TV to produce Cash Cab Philippines. activeTV also produced AXN’s Cash Cab Asia and The Amazing Race Asia.

Cash Cab Philippines is supported by its exclusive partner, Starcom Mediavest Group; show presenters McDonald’s, Sun Cellular and PS Bank; sponsor Petron and Toyota Abad Santos, provider of the Cash Cab vehicle.

AXN is seen on SkyCableCh 49, Cable Link C 38, Cignal TV Ch 61, Destiny Cable Ch 61, Dream Ch 20, and GSAT Ch 51
