Wazzup Pilipinas!

Attention all music fans and lovers! You have more reasons to travel to Manila! Save the very special date of May 17, 2015.

Better start planning your trip to the Philippines because it has indeed become the place to have more fun – come May or any month of the year. All year long, there is something in store for you!

MTV, a unit of Viacom Inc., has officially announced last March 26 at a media launch that MTV Music Evolution will mark its first edition in the Philippines on Sunday, 17 May 2015 at the historic Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park in Manila. That's MTV Music Evolution Manila - a free music-filled event for everyone to enjoy on a Sunday!

MTV is the world’s premier youth entertainment brand. With a global reach of more than a half-billion households, MTV is the cultural home of the millennial generation, music fans and artists, and a pioneer in creating innovative programming for young people. MTV reflects and creates pop culture with its award-winning content built around compelling storytelling, music discovery and activism across TV, online and mobile.

The media launch was hosted by the pretty and alluring Yassi Pressman whose outfit was very matching to the Hyve venue, together with the cool and debonair Allan Wong.

The Department of Tourism's Tourism Promotions Board (DOT-TPB) COO Chicoy Enerio was present at the media launch along with his team (all wearing the Visit the Philippines 2015 shirt) to join in the announcement of the partnership between MTV. He mentioned during the question and answer portion that they have been working with MTV group at many previous events all over the country like the Panagbenga festival in Baguio, and other popular Pinoy festivals. Kudos to the DOT-TPB for being very active in partnering with many events, campaigns and movements to energize tourism efforts in the Philippines.

I've been attending so many events where the DOT-TPB has their logo as a partner of the event - may it be a triathlon, a culinary gathering,  or a music festival - they have been in the forefront of actively supporting events which will surely influence tourists to visit the Philippines.

Paras Sharma (Vice President, MTV & Digital Media, Asia of Viacom International Media Networks) and Mark Whitehead (Executive Vice President & Managing Director, Asia of Viacom International Media Networks) were also present on stage to answer inquiries from the media.

MTV Asia revealed the first wave of artists to grace the MTV stage in the Philippines for the first time which includes– iconic and Grammy Award-winning hip hop act, Naughty by Nature, the Philippines’ most celebrated rapper, Gloc-9 and the Philippines’ hottest hip hop act, Abra.

Abra was present at the media launch offering a splendid performance along with his crew. He also stayed on to answer questions from the media and provided an opportunity to interview him after the launch. He also generously provided Wazzup Pilipinas a special video invite that is embedded below.

Abra will not be alone in his act since he also mentioned in the interview that he will be joined by other fellow rappers in a surprise number that he was hesitant to reveal yet. Though he did mention the names of Ron Henley and other artists from Artifice records. He said it will be one battalion of Artifice artists performing on stage.

All three acts will share the stage and not only perform before fans in the Philippines at Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, but will reach an international audience of more than three-quarters of a billion households in over 160 countries as the hotly-anticipated show will be recorded live for global
telecast under the MTV World Stage global series. More acts are expected to be announced at a later date. MTV Asia VJs Alan Wong and Hanli Hoefer will be hosting the concert.

Graffiti artist Chi Geotina was also presented on stage to discuss his live artwork done while the media launch was ongoing. He scribbled the native Pinoy alphabet onto the MTV image. The setup should have been done outside but the technical difficulties prevented the original plan so they just worked on the huge MTV logo within the venue.

Zepha, or Stephanie in real life, was the lady seen dancing on the video projection.

MTV Music Evolution is a live music concert that brings to life the evolution of a music genre and enables young people to experience and discover how music styles and sounds have evolved over the years. MTV Music Evolution marks its inauguration 2015 edition with a feature on hip hop, showcasing iconic and contemporary hip hop acts from both international and local music scenes on a single stage, while featuring the best of Philippine music and culture to international youth audiences.

“The Philippines has such a strong music influence and has become a popular entertainment destination. With a successful history of partnering with Tourism Boards around the world, we are naturally thrilled to be collaborating with the Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippine
Department of Tourism to bring MTV Music Evolution to our fans in the Philippines and around Asia,” said Mark Whitehead, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Viacom International Media Networks Asia. “MTV produces the most talked about live performances and events, so fans can anticipate engaging youth experiences in the coming weeks to discover the evolution of the hip hop music genre, while celebrating all that Philippines has to present to the world. We can’t wait to share one of the biggest music events in Manila with the world on May 17th!”

“We Filipinos like to entertain and perform for people. MTV Music Evolution will not only put the Philippines on the map of international music, but it will also serve as a global stage for the world to witness what Filipinos do best. The Philippines is a musically passionate country. And through our partnership with MTV, young people from around the world will now have the opportunity to share this passion and experience why and how the music culture is even more fun in the Philippines. This is, indeed, one of the exciting events to look forward to during our Visit the Philippines Year (VPY) 2015,” said Secretary Ramon R. Jimenez Jr. of the Philippine Department of Tourism.
