Amelie Hotel Manila: A New Boutique Hotel Rises in the Heart of Malate

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Wouldn't it be cool to have a hotel named after you?

Wazzup Pilipinas was at the Amelie Hotel Manila grand launch last February 19. This new hotel located at Bocobo street in Malate, Manila has around 70 comfy Executive and Deluxe 1 and 2 rooms with queen size beds and larger than usual spaces available at an average of only 4k per night.

What's interesting is where the owners got the name of the hotel....and the real story behind the name.

It was really cool to find out they got the name from the owner's granddaughter. Yes! Amelie is a real person, and she's just a little girl who now has a hotel named after her. She's the only granddaughter of the owner who has four grandchildren from three of his children.

Her mother Giselle is the daughter of the owner, Atty. Bobby Uy of the Ruygroup Hotel Corporation, and his father is Mark Abellon, Brand Manager of the hotel. They both named their daughter after the popular 2001 romantic comedy movie directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

The lead character in the Amelie movie is an innocent and naive girl named Amelie Poulain who lives in Paris with her own sense of justice. She decides to help those around her and, along the way, discovers love. Amelie is portrayed by the adorable Audrey Taotou.

Well, congratulations dear Amelie for having a hotel named after you. I'm sure you would appreciate it more once you grow a little older and much wiser.

Amelie Hotel Manila was built at the location where the former ancestral home of the Uy family used to be. The hotel was designed by noted Interior stylist Anton Barretto to feature contemporary, art deco inspired with visual representations of Manila. The hotel is set to incorporate works by contemporary artists in Manila so its guests can also appreciate Manila's hip culture and free-spirited vibe plus the Bohemian spirit of old Malate.

The hotel will become a venue for all kinds of artists as it collaborates with them to feature their works along the hotel hallways and will be rotated on a quarterly basis to give as many artists an opportunity to showcase their personal masterpieces. It will be managed by Paramount Hotels & Facilities Management Co., Inc. to ensure topmost quality in service and amenities.

The grand launch had the traditional dragon dance where dragons danced from the exterior to the interior of the hotel, all the way up to the roof deck, and was immediately followed by a short program at the multi-purpose hall. The launch was vibrantly hosted by Tessa Prieto-Valdez who urged people to touch the eye of the dragon so it will bring them good luck. Tessa was dressed in the color of the day - an amazing red outfit with a matching elaborate headress. She looked so young wearing that outfit and her fabulous make-up helped a lot in bringing out her best features.

The lobby of the hotel features art deco inspired furniture pieces and design accents. You can see some of the art when you face the elevators where it displays something like a map of Manila, and images that can be seen around the city.

Providing Amelie Hotel Manila guests' all-day dining, room service and catering requirements is the Galleon by Mario's Kitchen which offers international cuisine that will sure to satisfy a wide range of palates. The restaurant serves unique, familiar and fusion dishes and was inspired by the historic galleon trade that fostered goods and cultural exchange between the East and West.

The hotel has a multi-layered roof deck overlooking the Manila skyline, a gym, a multi-purpose hall and a viewing deck. The multi-purpose function room can accommodate up to 130 persons comfortably and is ideal for small conferences, meetings, and other special events. It will also soon have a swimming pool at the same roof deck so the guests can enjoy a dip in the pool.

Atty. Bobby had a short and simple message during the program where he thanked his friends for being there during the grand launch. He said " I am happy to welcome you to our newest business venture, Amelie Hotel" and " I'm very glad that a lot of my friends are here today...... Amelie Hotel Manila is your boutique hotel... I'm proud of it and let's be proud of it."

I've also interviewed Atty. Bobby on a one-on-one basis and I've learned that he also named one of their businesses, a commercial complex located in Taft Avenue corner EDSA, after her daughter Giselle. You might have guessed it's the Giselle's Park Plaza. I'm sure when Atty. Bobby gets another granddaughter from his children, he would surely name his next business after the lucky girl.

When asked why he decided to bring down their ancestral home and build a hotel instead, he explained that there have been so many tall hotels and other commercial structures already surrounding his property and that it's about time to go with the flow.

I've requested a tour from him and he quickly called out to the hotel management to assist us. He was also open to an opportunity for us to experience a staycation at the hotel. Now that would be fun!

We've taken a tour of some of the rooms to personally see them and maybe soon we can experience staying for an overnight at one of them so we could fully share to you how it is like to spend the night at Amelie Hotel Manila. I guess the best time to do a staycation would be when they've completed working on the pool, and when most of the other amenities and facilities are in place.

Their spacious rooms come in three types namely Deluxe 1, Deluxe 2 and Executive with sizes 24, 33 and 31 square meters respectively. All have comfy queen size beds, huge LED televisions and complimentary Wi-Fi Internet connections.

The Amelie Hotel Manila is a promising destination for those who want an accommodation with above average features. You may be able to save some money if you stayed in budget hotels, but what is a few more pesos (or other denominations) if it provides more convenience, close proximity to Manila's prime tourist spots, quality spacious rooms, fine amenities and facilities, great meals from its concessionaire restaurant, plus exceptional service from their pleasing hotel staff.

Yes! Be sure to approach any of the friendly hotel staff if you need something. They are always glad to be of service. Look for the pretty lady who looks like Rachel Alejandro, one of our leading singers here in the Philippines.

Seriously, the staff of Amelie Hotel Manila are always ready to serve you. They were all smiles, very polite and would stop whatever they are doing so they can immediately respond to your needs.

According to Amelie Hotel Manila General Manager Jose Antonio Sacluti, the hotel gives four-star service to its guest through their professional, efficient and extremely warm service. It will be the small details and gestures given with sincerity that will set Amelie Hotel Manila apart from the rest.

Congratulations again to Amelie Hotel Manila. Keep on creating a great image for the country by providing excellent service to both local and foreign tourists visiting Manila. Make them feel welcome and proud to have visited the country.

  1. Amelie Hotel Manila is a Boutique Hotel best one and I used its services. It consists of 70-room and it located on a short distance from the remarkable wonders such as Fort Bonifacio, shopping malls and business districts of Makati. Outdoor pool and nearby beach attraction make it special for others. Now, I make a plan to enjoy the niagara falls tours and experienced unforgettable.
