The Old Spaghetti House: A Special Family Day Deserves A Special Family Restaurant

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The family decided to dine out a few days before my daughter's birthday. It was her 16th birthday (gosh ! I'm old already) and taking them to the traditional "langhap-sarap" or "happy meal" restaurant was quite inappropriate already.

Well, for me, it feels like they've all grown up so fast that their favorite restaurant because of the adorable mascots are too childish already at their age. My youngest is going to high school already next year and he has also changed a lot in both physical and behavioral traits. Gone are the fascination for children's games. Though they still love the cartoons on cable TV, they don't mingle with the younger kids anymore and prefer to browse online viewing anime e-comics and videos.

Thus, we spent our weekend dining on a few more elegant restaurants that Sunday immediately after church. Of course, they still prefer the pizza, spaghetti and fried chicken dishes but it must be different from the usual. After all, a special day deserves a special restaurant.

For long life, it's either "pancit" or "spaghetti so The Old Spaghetti House or TOSH came into mind.

The motto of The Old Spaghetti House is "Treasures Waiting to be Discovered" because of passed-on family and friends well-loved recipes that make up the menu. The menu was developed by Lizzie Guerrero who studied culinary arts in the Center for Culinary Arts, Manila. Along with husband Chito, they are the same couple responsible in bringing us Grilla, Swensen's. The Shrimp Shack and Potts Point Cafe.

There was an event to be held at the TOSH area so we were seated instead at The Shrimp Shack which was connected to TOSH.  The branch was originally all TOSH when they divided it during renovation to make room for The Shrimp Shack franchise.

Appetizer Sampler (P 255)
The Appetizer Sampler was composed of three kinds of appetizers (Calamares, Fried Wonton and Bufallo Chicken Tenders) with three dips to enjoy. It's perfect to start any meal of the day.

Seafood Alfredo (P 220)
You'll enjoy the Seafood Alfredo with creamy white sauce and of course my favorite seafood: shrimps, among other ingredients that will satisfy your taste buds. A bread stick goes with the meal for a more filling offering.

Golden Crusted Chicken, Ham and Cheese Crepe with Angel Hair Pomodoro (P 220)

The Golden Crusted Chicken, Ham and Cheese Crepe with Angel Hair Pomodoro is a very filling meal that will truly make your day a little more brighter. My youngest picked this one and he has always been very good with his choicest.

Penne with Grilled Chicken Inasal (P 180)
The Penne with Grilled Chicken Inasal could use a bit more chicken on top to give it a more even and balanced taste. The chicken was all gone even before my son was able to finish this meal. The taste is satisfactorily flavorful.

American Baked Spareribs (P 245)
The American Baked Spareribs was my wife's choice since she prefers rice meals rather than pasta, pizza or bread. It was sweet and tender to the bite even one with false dentures would be able to chew on this.

I remembered the time when I was still courting her and I took her to a pizza and pasta house and how she was not able to finished her pasta. Until now she prefers the staple Filipino food than any other cuisine.

Pinoy Pizza (P 465)
The Pinoy Pizza is superb with all-time Pinoy favorite toppings like salted egg, tinapa, beef tapa, tomatoes, etc. It may not have so many toppings, yet it still delivers a flavorful taste that explodes in our mouth.

Seafood Pizza (P 465)
The Seafood Pizza is a must-try  since I adore everything with seafood. I made the right choice to order it but it could a bit more toppings for better appreciation.

Dessert Platter (P 275)
The Dessert Platter is composed of Tiramisu , Mud Pie and Golden Oreo. A very special sweet treat to end our delightful lunch. All three were sensational, and we especially like the effort done on putting the word "Tosh" on our dessert plate.

Ripe Mango Shake (P 75)
Of course, we also enjoyed some fresh fruit shakes namely ripe mango, green mango and apple. Though nothing really special with the drinks but the familiar great old natural taste of the fruits mixed with ice.

Green Mango Shake (P 75)
Apple Shake (P 75)
The Old Spaghetti House has an ambiance and food choices that are suitable for the family's special occasions. Before coming to the restaurant, my youngest would joke that he doesn't want to eat here because the spaghetti is old. Lol.

But after a superb lunch he stopped with his jokes for he obviously liked his dining experience here. The same goes with everyone else who appreciate simple traditional meals but with the good old taste that has been continuously passed on from generations up to the present day.

Thank you for the great dishes, TOSH! We will surely be coming back for more!

  3. The phrase "he doesn't want to eat here because the spaghetti is old" made me grin. Who wouldn't want to eat in an old spaghetti house? Aside from the good ambiance the food and everything that was served was really awesome. I really love eating spaghetti, the thought itself never failed to remind me of my childhood. :)
