Wazzup Pilipinas!

Are you a senior high school student who still needs time and guidance to think of a possible course and a university to go on for college? Or a parent who wants to help their child choose the right school and career path for them to take? If you’re one of them then The Division Wide Career Fair Orientation 2014 is the right event for you to attend to! What’s a Career Fair you say? Read more to find out.

A Career Fair is an event leaded by the Department of Education in Partnership with the City government of Pasig along with a few sponsors like WazzupPilipinas and Epson, and Universities and Colleges who want to attract potential applicants for the upcoming school year 2015-2016. A Career Fair usually last for three to five days, and by this time it is held from August 18 to August 22, 2014. The Division Wide Career Fair Orientation for this year had the theme: Stepping Up: Your Choice for a Brighter Future. It was held on the Pasig Elementary School Covered Court from 8:00a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The program was hosted by Ms. Wilma Q. Del Rosario who greeted everyone and facilitated the whole program as the emcee of the career fair. A Doxology and the Entrance of Colors followed which were both performed by the FEATI University. The National Anthem was then sung by the ICCT chorale. The program was later followed by the acknowledgement of participants by Ms. Perlita M Ignacio, RGC, the Education Program Supervisor I. This is where the different participating schools are called up to perform their own cheers and the participating colleges and universities were also acknowledged. The Participating High Schools are Pasig City Science High School, Eusebio High School, Sagad High School, Kapitolyo High School, San Joaquin Kalawaan High School and Santolan High School.

Welcome Remarks were delivered by Ms. Rhodora Medina, the Principal IV of Pasig Elementary School. Dr. Aurora A. Franco, CESO VI, the Schools Division Superintendent of the Division of Pasig City and as well as the Honorable Mayor of Pasig City herself, Hon. Maria Belen A. Eusebio, said a few inspirational messages to motivate the students for their next big step in life. The Mayor leaded a Toast for the Succession of the Career Fair along with Councilor Ory Rupisan, the councilor of Pasig City. The Induction of the new DPC-GCA Officers was also included in the program.

The program continued on with intermission numbers from the participating colleges, which wooed the students with their every move and voices. It is the time for the colleges to attract students to apply for their school so everyone gave it all that they’ve got. The students even had Goosebumps with some of the intermission numbers. University of the East prepared their U.E. Hip Hop Dancers, National University sent off their N.U. Pep Squad, CEU presented their chorale and CCP ended off the intermission numbers with their own Pep Squad.

After the intermission numbers, a short break was given to the students to eat off their lunch and snacks and they were finally allowed to wander and check each of the colleges booths for consultation and scheduling for application exams. The students received a lot of freebies from all of the colleges like fans, pins, brochures, pens, stickers and etcetera. The sponsors even drawn a raffle and gave off freebies and gifts to lucky students from all the participating high schools.

Some of the brands who sponsored the event were Max's Restaurant, Epson Philippines, Smart Communications, Aquabest and a lot more including the colleges and universities who participated in the event.

Everyone had fun by the event and a lot of new knowledge had been stored to the students’ minds regarding college and university life. This event made us realize that there are more colleges than the usual top 4 universities we always have our eyes on. And maybe, the career that we want to take is not on those 4 universities but maybe on one of the colleges that participated during the career fair.

Deciding which university we will enroll to is a big decision in a student’s life and we should not rush it but instead think about it fully, decide with our parents and know what is better for us. After all, it is our future that is at stake, and we cannot afford to commit any mistake.
