MRT Problems Not Stopping Anytime Soon

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Senator Grace Poe tried to ride the MRT 3 ahead of the Senate MRT Probing. She was praised by commuter group TREN (Train Riders Network) for riding from North Avenue to Taft Avenue station and not bringing any bodyguards with her. She also had the courage to line up for 40 minutes during rush hour and took note of the problems of the train.

She said that there should be MRT buses for people who get stuck because of problems with the train. She also said that the public announcement system is hardly being heard so commuters won’t know when to get off or if it is nearly time for them to get off.

Another good observation she made is that the escalator leading to the station is always broken and some ticketing machines always seem to malfunction since I always ride the North Avenue station myself.

She made really good observations and she did the MRT experience unlike DOTC Secretary Jun Abaya who rode the MRT himself but on 1 PM which was not rush hour. Not only that but he also rode the first couch meant for women and elderly people. I guess the first couch is also meant for high ranking government officials now.

Abaya should start caring about the public as he is starting to show that he is just in this for the money. It is a good thing the Senate started to realize they should finally do something after that August 13 incident that caused injuries to several commuters.

However, it is going to take a couple of years or possibly more than that before more trains arrive. These trains would help lessen the amount of waiting time for commuters before they get to their destination. This is certainly one issue the government should not ignore as a lot of people use the MRT to go to work on weekdays.
