De La Salle Health Sciences Institute: Nurturing Life for a Brighter Future

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The wallpaper design of their desktop wall were the words "Rest when you're dead, Challenge yourself." For me it was quite appropriate for our goals that persists. I could relate to the meaning since I am probably among those that even forget to rest if in the middle of an idea that is worth fulfilling. I believe I will only get tired, lose my motivation and lessen the flames of my burning desire if I pause for a while.

I love to pursue goals that would benefit as much people possible. I do it not just for me but for everyone else. There is something inside that is screaming for better living opportunities for my fellowmen. There is the need to bring out hope for a better future where people are united in one common goal - to serve the people.

This is why I admire organizations that were intentionally setup to make our lives better. Such as institutions that were created to further provide better education to our students. We all know that the opportunity to better employment starts from a a strong educational background which one could only get from a reputable school whose primary aim is to equip our children with enough knowledge to better serve the people.

Such an institution is the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute (DLSHSI) "is a full- complement medical and health allied institution that provides holistic, excellent, and premium health professions education, health care, and research services in a nurturing God-centered environment as it pursues its commitment of Nurturing life.

From their website, we've learned that the institute is composed of three major services division: Academics, De La Salle University Medical Center, and the DLSHSI Angelo King Medical Research Center; and two institutional divisions: Lasallian Mission and Linkages and Finance and Administration Divisions.

DLSHSI’s ministry of nurturing life is exemplified by the services provided by these divisions individually or together, as one, in communion in mission, through “nurturing potentials,” “nurturing health,” “nurturing discoveries,” “nurturing communities,” and “nurturing your spirit.”

De La Salle Health Sciences Institute (DLSHSI) is one of the member schools of De La Salle Philippines, and is affiliated with the worldwide network of Lasallian schools managed by the Brothers of the Christian Schools. It continuously strives to provide excellent education, healthcare and research, accompanied by its top of the line facilities and equipments. It has excellent research and service units, libraries, sports facilities and a full range of academic, non-academic, and service programs that one can engage in.

The De La Salle Health Sciences Institute – Angelo King Medical Research Center (DLSHSI-AKMRC) is DLSHSI’s ground zero for medical and healthcare research.

It produces groundbreaking research in various medical fields, and also seeks to find solutions to national health concerns, such as research on treatments for tuberculosis, dengue, and cancer, as well as on the efficient use of evidence-based complementary and integrative medicine in health care.

As a research center, it is driven by a 3-pronged research agenda that drive the Lasallian mission:
  • Evidence-based Complementary and Integrative Medicine
  • Drug Development
  • Health Research for the Youth at Risk

Thus, research services are available for herbal and other traditional or indigenous medicine, alternative nutrition, massage, acupuncture, mind-body interventions such as yoga and other alternative healing modalities.

An established site for the for international clinical trials, it has positioned itself as a contract research organization for local pharmaceutical companies, given its capability to conduct Phase I-IV clinical trials.

The Center is also engaged in research training, conferences, publication, and research-based product development.

There are many people who need help. Some choose to give up.  But there are those who are working hard to keep their hopes alive.   They sincerely believe there is a way out of their poverty if they would only try hard enough. Their trust in God sustains their spirit.

Their positive attitude and tenacity in the face of dire circumstances deserve to be rewarded with the loudest cheers of support that, YES, they can pull through.  YES, there’s a brighter future ahead.  YES, there is hope!

De La Salle Health Sciences Institute is able to do its work of transforming lives, teachings minds and touching hearts because of the generosity of those who are blessed. It would be great if those who are affluent in life could donate their excess earnings to the institute so it could help our brothers.
