Robots Will Soon Rule the Earth But Let's Start with Some Robotics Competition

Wazzup Pilipinas!

I can't help but think about Terminator movies every time we see robots doing what man used to be doing manually. A lot of labor-intensive tasks have turned automated that there is that fear that robots will soon rule the Earth, or at least replace man as the worker. It does make life a lot easier by providing us with convenient, less prone to errors, and immediate solutions... but man is becoming obsolete and turned everyone into lazy beings that are waiting to be spoon-fed. Yeah, we see fitness and health buffs sweating it out at gyms, the streets and parks but they could be similarly losing the pounds if they worked their butts doing household chores.

I know there are a lot of positive effects towards modernization particularly in robotics, but like everything else, there's a few negativity looming in the air especially when you hear about company lay-offs and manpower reductions. Robots have somehow made life a lot lay-back and easy. It made everyone hopeful of the next technological wonder which is eventually going to happen whether we like it or not. We cannot stop the future from unfolding but we can however change our mindset for positive thinking.

We can learn to take advantage of these technological breakthroughs by embracing them and hoping it will create alternative jobs to keep us humans still employed in a work that will require our skills and knowledge. After all, humans did the programming and creation of the robots so its but necessary to still keep us around. Robotics may no longer be a sci-fi imaginary theory from the movies, TV series and comic books anymore, but humans still have an upper-hand in making them function well.

The people that I see exploring these wonders are the youth staring off with the students of many colleges and universities since the schools have already incorporated robotics topics and subjects among their courses. But what happens to their inventions after graduation. Will the effort be continued by the incoming students and take their place towards improving their crafts?

Last August 15, 2014 at the Oakwood Premier Hotel in Ortigas Center, members of the media were invited to meet the Philippines' representatives to the 16th International Robotics Olympiad this coming Nov. 5-9 at Shijingshan Gymnasium, Beijing, China. The team is supported by the Data Science and Techonology Corporation, a provider of world-class technology education solutions and one of the major sponsors that will provide assistance.

According to Melvin Matulac, Pinoy Robot Games Founder and Director,  they select participants to international robotics competitions among the 300+ school teams that participate in the National Robotics Competition. Out from these competitions, the champions are the ones given opportunities to compete at the International Robotics Olympiad where different categories are available like Sumobot, Line tracing, Mission Challenge and Humanoid Challenge.

The winners from the 2015 National Robotics Competition that will be held on November 7, 2014,will represent the country at the 17th International Robotics Olympiad in Bucheon, South Korea in December 2015.

There will also be a Creative Robo Fest to be held at Don Bosco Canlubang this coming September 12, 2014 where students will build robots that would address global warming issues. The winners from this competition will also form part of the Philippine Robotics team that will compete in Beijing, China this coming November.

National Robotics Competition
will be held at Don Bosco Makati this coming December 13, 2014,a nd sometime the middle of 2015, the Asian Robotics Competition will be held in Indonesia.

I just hope that there will be more support from the government so that more of our great minds in this field will be encourage to participate and revolutionize the technology. There should be a more focused organization that will assist these inventors and financially support them so they can improve their creations.
