Filipino Design Chosen as One of the Entries in the Electrolux Design Lab 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!
At present time, people are so busy rushing in between schedules that they tend to compromise their health. Often, people would just opt to buy processed and unhealthy food, to fit into their busy lifestyle. Having a machine that could address this problem would help people to enjoy a healthy lifestyle without disrupting their busy schedule.

The Electrolux Design Lab 2014 have chosen the Top 100+ concepts creating the future of healthy homes, and among them is one Filipino. The Electrolux Design Lab 2014 calls on design students worldwide to compete for a six-month paid internship and a prize of 5,000 Euros by submitting innovative design ideas for future home environments.

In its 12th year, the Electrolux Design Lab competition addresses the issues of health and sustainability under the theme of Creating Healthy Homes - how we in the future can enjoy healthy well-being, live in pleasant environments and take care of ourselves and others in a way that is creative, sustainable and effortless. The popular global design competition this year received over 1,700 submissions from over 60 countries.

I would just like to share to you the sole Filipino entry chosen in the contest. This is by Anna Klarissa Abjelina from UP Diliman, College of Fine Arts. Let us help vote for her and share this news so that others would know. Let us strongly support our very own!

She designed the Hexis for the sole purpose of helping people achieve optimal health lifestyle without sacrificing much of their precious time.

The Hexis is a multi-purpose kitchen appliance that serves as a mini-refrigerator and a meal cooker that cooks according to your nutritional needs. It is a two-in-one kitchen appliance that can store food in tiny hexagonal compartments by compressing the very atoms of the food, making it physically smaller, and at the same, use these “food particles” as ingredients for healthy meals.

The kitchen appliance is spherical in shape, which is physically divided into two parts. The upper part is a convex touch screen which doubles as the lid of the Hexis, and the lower part is comprised of hundreds of hexagonal compartments where food is stored.

When storing food, the Hexis analyzes first the nutritional components of the food, and then store them according to what food group they belong to. It also acts as a nutritional analyzer that can perform an in-depth scan of the user’s body with only a touch of the hand. It can quickly analyze the user’s nutritional needs, and based on acquired data and stored food particles, be able to come up with a list of recommended meals for the user to consume.

As an automatic meal cooker, the user can pick from their personal recommended list of meals the dish they want Hexis to prepare. Factors such as: the age of the user, the time when Hexis was used and certain medical issues can also affect how Hexis would prepare the healthy meals.

  3. No doubt, the Hexis should win! This innovation is really cool because of how it compresses the food into smaller food particles which will then be used as ingredients for healthy meals. Ms. Anna Klarissa Abjelina and her work is really a pride for the Filipinos!
