UNTV Cup Season 2 Features New Teams and Rules

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The UNTV Cup Season 2 will officially commence on February 11, 2014 at Smart Araneta. On this season’s league, the teams were given the privilege to get a maximum of two professional basketball (PBA) players for reinforcement, subject to certain qualifications. In addition to the participating teams of last season, the success of the advocacy inspired both Malacañan and Senate to join this upcoming season.

To further enhance the public service aspect of the league, each game day every Sunday will also be a public service” day for the participating agencies. Prior to the game, each agency will be given a booth at the game venue, where our game audience may seek for the services of each organization.

All games will be held every Sunday at Ynares Sports Arena, and broadcasted live 2:30pm at UNTV.

A big change of landscape can be expected in the upcoming UNTV Cup second season with new teams and big-name players coming in to spice up the charity tournament.

UNTV Cup Commissioner Fortunato “Atoy” Co said that there are now 10 teams in this year’s edition of the league from last year’s seven teams.

During UNTV Cup’s press conference on February 4, at the Dulcinea, Tomas Morato, Quezon City, Co said the new teams include Malacanang-Patriots and Senate Defenders, as well as Team Congress and the LGU Vanguards from last year’s Congress-LGU team.

The four new teams will join other participating teams from last year’s tournament: PNP Responders, AFP Cavaliers, Philhealth Advocates, MMDA Black Wolves, Team DOJ and defending champion Team Judiciary.

To reinforce the perfomance of each team, teams can include two reinforcement players from the ranks of long-retired professional players and amateur players in their lineup for this season.

Prominent ex-pros such as Kenneth Duremdes, Poch Juinio, Kiko Adriano, and Zaldy Realubit lead the cast of reinforcements coming in to strengthen the teams.

A couple of new rules will also be implemented for a more competitive and exciting UNTV Cup this season.

This season, the teams will be divided into two brackets in a round robin eliminations format to ensure that the 10 teams face all the other teams in the competition.

There is also the aim of ensuring that the basketball league establishes the team’s placing for the playoffs in the soonest possible time.

In addition, an age limit of 32 years old and above will be implemented to give chance for aspiring basketball players that are already past their prime to live their dream as hardcourt superstars. This rule will also level the playing field for all the players.

There will also be an all-star game where the league’s superstars will be pitted against each other in a friendly basketball match.

UNTV Cup will hold its opening ceremonies on Tuesday, February 11, at 7 p.m. at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

UNTV Cup Season 2 will have a regular weekly game every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. onwards at the Ynares Center. A live telecast will be aired by UNTV with simulcast live streaming at untvweb.com.
