Japanese Food: Temaki-zushi or Simply "Temaki"

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Honestly, I never tasted one kind of Sushi, so I have no idea what to write about this food so please bear with me.

Temaki is a kind of sushi which is a large cone-shaped piece of nori on the outside and the ingredients spilling out the wide end. Btw, nori is an edible seaweed. According to Wikipedia, a typical temaki is about ten centimeters (4 in) long, and is eaten with fingers because it is too awkward to pick it up with chopsticks. For optimal taste and texture, Temaki must be eaten quickly after being made because the nori cone soon absorbs moisture from the filling and loses its crispness and becomes somewhat difficult to bite. For this reason, the nori in pre-made or take-out temaki is sealed in plastic film which is removed immediately before eating.

Here's a photo:

Steps on how to make a Temaki:

1. Dry your hands thoroughly. You want the seaweed to be crunchy and tasty, not soggy and unpleasant to eat.

2. Place the seaweed (shiny side down) on the palm of your hand. Moisten (not drench) the other hand with water and put a thin layer of rice on one half of the seaweed.

3. Sprinkle some sesame seeds onto the rice. This is optional, but it brings a little more taste to the sushi.

4. Lay a piece of raw fish, diagonally, in the middle of the rice. The choice of fish is up to the person; ahi (tuna) and salmon are top preferences.

5. Put a piece of vegetable next to the fish, diagonally as well. This is optional to taste, but there are many varieties of temaki that include vegetables and goodies, such as avocado, cucumber, egg, tofu, taikuan (picked radish), etc.

6. Roll the temaki by bending your hand so that it starts to fold in onto itself. Tuck the end in and finish off by rolling it into a cone shape. To keep the cone together take one kernel of rice and squash it into the corner. This will stick the end down, holding the Nori in position. (c) http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Temaki-Sushi

I have seen one of this though, but not in personal, just digital. It is when I was playing Pou. Haha. It really does look the same with the photo, but it also has an avocado flavor, I think the avocado substitute the fish.
