Going Viral or Trending: It's Not About Your Content, But How Likable or Horrible You Are

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Are you a good storyteller?

This reminds me of the political arena...as well as popularity of Influencers or content creators.

It's not really on how good your content is ..but on how Likable, or Horrible, you are as a person.

Many ignore the quality of your content, if they do not like you from the very beginning....or patronize content that speaks negatively of you.

Natawa lang ako dahil nakaka-relate din kahit papaano. I notice different acceptance levels depending on where you post your comments. If you post where majority of the people do not know you, you get high engagement. But if you post on groups where majority are your bashers, naturally you will get less.

So find your tribe....and grow with them.

Parang setting up a business yan. It's usually the strangers who will support you more...while those who know you will just keep asking for freebies and special perks or privileges.

Kaya huwag malungkot if you can't seem to find an "audience" for all your effort. The views don't really matter if all you care about is the perception of others. It should be all about how good it was for you when you wrote that blog, or shot, and edited, that vlog.

When I started both online presence, I was not minding my ranking, DA, analytics, views, etc. It was more about my virgin experience - how much new stuff I learned, the various people I met, and the opportunity to improve and innovate my craft as each day passes.

Jollibee failed in their first attempt in business when they sold ice cream, so they changed their products and innovated their concepts which includes the mascots that was a significant factor that boosted their sales. They made children happy first...so when word got out that there are playful mascots at this fastfood chain, kids were the ones asking their parents to bring them to Jollibee. Thus the resto got the entire family as patrons. It was never their food alone as there was another resto that served better burgers back then.

It should be about innovating yourself and your creations regardless of how many attempts you made already, but what's more important is getting along or being in jibe with your "customers."

This is what I've read from 2020 Social Media Trends by Danny Goodwin

"It is no longer enough to provide a service or product your customer needs. Self-serving social messages won’t cut it in 2020, either. The new mindset is this: The relationship we build with our customers is more important than the products and services we sell them."

The service or product in our case is our content. The relationship could be engaging with our followers, but we can't engage if we don't have enough followers yet.

That's why celebs or popular personalities have the upper hand because they already have a fan base...and we know how fanatic a fandom can be. That is why some Influencers even stage scripted or setup scenarios, and invest to boost their online presence, para mapansin muna at mapag-usapan....same as why businesses invest on billboards, ads, press releases...kahit walang significant info about their products on their ads. The visually appealing endorsers, "budots" or "pabebe" are getting noticed more than the "informative and educational"

And because people would usually patronize first who they know and are familiar with.

Should we lose hope? Never! But it does seem futile because we are not in an ideal world.

Roque: Mocha Uson is a role model for women

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Netizens suddenly turned the spotlight on Mocha Uson — a government official, political blogger, former sexy dancer and allegedly a fake news peddler, when Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque called her a role model."

Mocha Uson is trending yet again. The way the government is hyping up this woman is beyond me.

The PH never ran out of women who stood out because of exemplary performance in their respective fields.

I don't understand why they have to label Uson as 'role model'.

Two years after her resignation as Assistant Secretary of PCOO position because she ran for the election as a Partylist representative, Mocha Uson is still squandering our taxes as the nonperforming deputy administrator of OWWA.

Now Roque is saying she is a role model for women.

Based on what standards? This administration is severely lacking in standards...making them not credible to identify acceptable standards, what more above and beyond recognition.

Or is it just me thinking that this freakin' government just giving some more real nonsense to get us triggered with their fail governance and system? Because WTF lang kasi what makes that girl a role model to the women constituents of this country?

Malay ko ba dito kay Harry Roque na human rights lawyer kuno, pero women who use their power to disparage other people and willfully stoke ignorance and misinformation isn't a form of feminism. Mema mema na naman 'to si Brother Nature maisingit lang uli si Mocha Uson sa usapan.

Like the same person who dresses up as a nun for obscene photos, the one who.let a man fondle her breast to check for tumor which signifies breast cancer, and the same person who spreads misinformation aka fake news? What standards do you have Roque. Are you on crack?

Throwback to that one time my classmates were dissing on Mocha Uson and I thought they were talking about the flavor so I quipped "But I like Mocha"  I will never forget the literal murderous looks I received.

Ever since I became aware of Mocha Uson's existence parang ruined na yung lasa ng mocha flavored things for me.

Well, I ain't letting her serve as one to my daughter.  Sorry but we are not as low as you. Ang daming babaeng empowered and intelligent. What else can she do aside from spreading fake news and information?

Calling Mocha Uson as a role model of a Filipina is a big insult to the women of this country. She can't even fight for their freedom. Sarah Elago is more competitive and deserving.

Please enumerate the reasons what made Mocha Uson a role model especially to the young women.

Saying that Mocha Uson is a role model does not sit right with me. So Roque is saying that women who are dumb and minions of the government are ideal?? I feel like you're saying that women don't need brains, they need big ass big tits?

You know you have low standards when you think Mocha Uson is a good role model for women. Kung may anak kang babae @attyharryroque would you want your daughter to grow up like her? Im not asking for a friend.

A better role model would be his wife. Ang galing pala sa negosyo. Rich na rich sa raket daw.

Not gonna really debate about Mocha Uson being a role model or not but — What if Mocha changes into a conventionally good woman in the future?  Would she still be bashed? If she'd still be, then it must be said people hold bias. They only forgive others they like to forgive.

Filipino liberals, Communists and wokes who claim to be "feminists" openly attack Mocha Uson and Sara Duterte in the same way that American liberals, Communists and wokes who claim to be "feminists" openly attack Amy Coney Barrett.

But we should NOT compare the political climate of the Philippines to the US.  There is a tremendous criticism on Trump’s nominee.  Americans are concerned because of how the  judicial system works.  The word here is ... BALANCE!  As a non-white, I will be doomed!

Lastly, women, just as men, actually need no role model. They can be anyone they want to be. They can just be themselves and not submit to any societal painting of what a woman should be. But if there's a woman we all should look up to, IT AIN'T MOCHA USON. NEVER WAS. NEVER WILL.

As Content Creators and Influencers, should we set or follow the trends?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

As influencers or content creators, I understand we want to entertain. However, I noticed that majority of those well-patronized content are those that offer showbiz or entertainment, celebrity endorsements, pranks or scripted scenarios, pabebe and pakilig attempts to make people laugh, features on sexy models, beauty queens, and TikTok babes' exposing cleavages and dancing to sensual rhythms, sensationalized politics and current events,..matched with exaggerated and fake expressions on reactions to scandals and controversies (for video reactions). Same as how mainstream media is popular with the same set of content and formula...all with intriguing and sensationalized elements.

....while the significant and more important topics like documentaries, business and entrepreneurship opportunities, etc., get minimal engagements.

Do you think it's about time we mix the two topics to make what we perceive as "boring" topics become more acceptable and interesting just as how weather girls are stripping out of their clothes at some news channels in other countries, or the Naked Bakers channel on YouTube where erect nipples are screaming to go out for a peek to the outside of the hindrance we call clothing?!

Don't you think we should change the mindset of people to pick the content that will make their lives more productive instead of being a "chismosa" about the latest gossips?

As they say, negative publicity is still publicity, and so if we meant to inform people how bad ... let's say Buknoy Glamurrr is as an Influencer, creating content about him only adds to the noise contributing to his popularity....and we know how some brands would take advantage of the commotion...which encourages more "influencers" to setup their own scripted  scandals.. and unorthodox behavior.

...and that is one example where at the end of the day, our audience got entertained but did it improve his life, or society as a whole, during that moment?...compared to creating a video where we show our audience how to .... let's say....  make a compost bin where they can put their kitchen scrap and turn into reusable compost for our soil and plants instead of adding our waste to our heaping garbage problem.

I'm guilty of the former but I also try my best to balance it out with the latter content. But if people are eating up the former making it the more well-engaged content, I may be tempted to keep following only the formula that works and stop making an effort to do the other ones.

So depending on our intentions, it's our choice if we want to either earn from our content while dumbing down our audience, or learn how to become more productive together with our audience.

We should all aim to veer away from the traditional by innovating the way we present our stories.

We know it may be difficult at first to attract and convince people to change their preference. But if we all make an effort together consistently, we will eventually succeed.
