Verstappen & Perez Compete In The World’s Cleanest Challenge Ahead Of Singapore Race Weekend

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

On their return to Singapore, Oracle Red Bull Racing champions, Max Verstappen and Sergio “Checo” Perez, embraced a uniquely fun challenge. They hopped on motorized cleaning carts, racing on a specially constructed indoor track, in the cleanest race ever, all within the stunning Jewel Changi Airport.

The first part, a mock sprint race, began with an electrifying "Le Mans" style start. Max gained an early advantage by firing up his cleaning cart first. He maintained a solid lead until Checo attempted to take a shortcut that violated track limits, securing Max's victory.

In the subsequent Cleaning Challenge, the drivers navigated an expanded track with obstacles like muddy footprints, dirt, rubbish, and leaves. Max, starting in pole position, maintained his lead throughout the race until an exciting head-to-head battle emerged in the back section of the course. Despite Checo's attempts to overtake him, Max held his ground. During the pit stop, it was clear that Max's vehicle had cleaned more debris. With a significant lead, Max sprinted (albeit slowly) to the finish line, clinching first place in the inaugural World’s Cleanest Race. He was presented with a pre-broken trophy in recognition of his victory by Oracle Red Bull Racing ambassador, Josh Denzel, sparing him the effort of breaking it himself.

“It was great,” stated Checo when asked about the challenge. “When I got to see the cart for the first time, I was shocked with it.”

When asked about the unique nature of today’s event, Max laughed stating, “At this stage, being with the team, I’m quite used to it. They come up with quite a lot of things so this was another one."

Supported by Jewel Changi Airport and the Singapore Tourism Board, there was no better venue to host the event than at the world's best airport, renowned for its autonomous fleet of cleaning robots, offering a stunning backdrop featuring the world's tallest indoor waterfall nestled within the lush indoor forest.

With Singapore as a vibrant backdrop, a city renowned for its diverse culinary culture, captivating attractions, and lush gardens, the beauty of the Lion City and FORMULA 1’s first night street race has always been an attraction for avid racing fans and the Oracle Red Bull Racing drivers, as well.

It’s always good to be in Singapore. It’s an incredible track and the fact that it’s a night race makes it even more special. It is of course a very warm race which can be challenging, so it’s definitely one of the toughest races on the calendar,” said Max.

Checo echoed similar sentiments, adding, “It’s a track that’s really hard on us and the cars. We just have to deliver to the maximum.”

The one-of-a-kind World’s Cleanest challenge, held ahead of the highly anticipated Singapore Grand Prix (15 to 17 September), was just the warm-up the racers favoured before tackling the big one. It’s at the forthcoming night race that Checo hopes to repeat his incredible performance from last year.

“That would be really nice to repeat what we did last year,” said Checo. “I look forward to it, and hopefully we are able to have a tremendous race.”

Max, in particular, is focused on extending his record-breaking streak with a potential first-time victory in Singapore.

“Street circuits always bring a few more challenges but we’ll definitely try,” declared Max. “We have a quick car, but we know that on a street circuit there are a lot of other cars that can be quick as well and the gaps will be very tight. We of course want to win so let’s see what we can do.”

To catch the epic action and the infectious laughter of Max Verstappen and Checo Perez, zoom over to Oracle Red Bull Racing's YouTube channel to watch the World's Cleanest Race in its entirety.

A Homebuyer’s Guide to Philippine Real Estate Laws and Regulations

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

While buying a home is exciting, do not forget the importance of its legal aspects. Navigating relevant real estate laws and regulations is essential to making more informed decisions and safeguarding investments. Lucky for you, we are here to help you out. Let us talk about vital real estate legislation in the Philippines that every homebuyer should know.

3 Philippine Real Estate Laws and Regulations

Understanding the following laws thoroughly is crucial for anyone looking to own property in the Philippines.

1. Real property tax

Owning real estate in the Philippines means you are subject to real property tax. Local government units (LGUs) annually impose this tax on all properties, including land, buildings, and other structures. Tax rates depend on the property's location, with the Local Government Code of 1991 Section 233 listing them as follows:

· Provinces: <1% of the property's assessed value

· City or municipality within Metro Manila: <2% of the property's assessed value

However, there are some exceptions to this policy. Public properties, cooperatives, charities, churches, and cemeteries, among others, do not have to pay real property taxes.

2. The Condominium Act

Are you a foreigner hoping to own a condominium unit in the Philippines? Do not fret—you have every right to do so. The Condominium Act allows non-Filipinos to buy and own condos, provided Filipino citizens comprise 60% of the project's ownership share. In other words, foreign ownership must be in the minority.

This policy is especially beneficial if you are looking to invest in properties within urban areas and central business districts (CBDs).

3. The Maceda Law

The Philippine government protects buyers who are paying via installments. The Maceda Law or Realty Installment Buyer Act prevents you from losing your investment due to defaulting or canceling your contract. It grants a grace period of at least 60 days, provided that you have paid at least two years' installments.

Moreover, you can refund a property if you have paid for those two years. Sellers also cannot cancel the contracts due to non-payment of installments.

More about Philippine Real Estate Laws and Regulations

When buying a home, it is not only the location, aesthetics, and financial considerations that matter. It is equally important, if not more, to have a thorough understanding of real estate laws. It will help you make more informed decisions about your investment, allowing you to acquire properties without worrying about conflicting with the law.

We have only discussed some essential Philippine real estate laws and regulations. Check out the infographic below to learn more.

5 Tips for Choosing a Safe Online Casino

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

How to Ensure That a Casino is Legit?

How would you know if a casino is not a fraud? There are five basic things you need to check to protect yourself. Read and find out!

Casinos like Slotoro are safe, and that is a guarantee. However, it does not mean that all gambling platforms online are safe. As you know, these are software programs, and anyone who has the budget can do it.

As such, there is nothing more important to a gambling enthusiast than safety and security. Before registering for an account in an online casino, you must guarantee that it is safe. Allow us to share some of the things you need to check to be able to choose a safe online gambling platform.

1. Government License

The first and most important thing to check to validate the legitimacy of a casino is its license. There are many countries, particularly those in Europe, that issue gambling licenses to online gambling sites.

The most common governing bodies, or licensing bodies, are:

● Government of Malta;

● UK Gambling Commission;

● Government of Curacao.

There are other gambling licenses, which are issued in Asia. As a gamer, you must exercise due diligence when trying to validate the legitimacy of an online casino.

Usually, the license is at the bottom of the home page. Check that out and copy the license number. From here, visit the website of the provider and then check if the license number is valid. If the license issuer says it is not real, find another casino.

2. Game Developers

The next method is to check who the business partners are. Today, it is rare for an online casino company to develop its games. They curate or work with game developers.

Typically, the process is for a casino to launch games from a game developer. Then, the two companies will split the profits.

So, how does this help you validate a gambling site? What you must do is check the games inside the online casino. Find out if the games come from legitimate and world-renowned iGaming developers.

Here are some examples:

● Pragmatic Play;

● Netent;

● Microgaming;

● Yggdrasil.

Why is this important? Game developers also need a license to operate. Game development companies cannot create gambling games without a license.

Because of this, game developers will only work with legitimate platforms. They want to make sure that they do everything in their power not to tarnish their names. If the games in an online casino are from a legit game developer, then the casino, by extension, is also legit.

3. Security Systems

Casinos are like financial companies. They process money in and out of the system. As such, they must use high levels of security and safety.

The first thing you must check is Secure Sockets Layer or SSL. It is an encryption methodology that jumbles data input, and only the casino’s servers can decode the data. This process is important, as it prevents hackers from decrypting information in case they manage to intercept data.

Typically, you will know if the site has SSL if the platform starts with HTPPS instead of a simple HTTP. There is also a padlock icon in the address field of a browser. Its absence is an indication that the website is not secure and that hackers can steal your data such as, but not limited to:

● Name and address.

● Credit card information.

As you know, all these are super sensitive. The bad news is once hackers have this data; you are in deep trouble. They can execute actions, and you will only know about these once the damage has been done.

4. KYC Policies

KYC stands for Know-Your-Customer. It is a process where a financial institution validates the authenticity of an identity. In online casinos, they typically ask you to submit your valid ID.

Why is this important? It is crucial for compliance with anti-money laundering laws. Casinos are obligated by governments to ensure that they do not process money from fake accounts, especially money launderers.

If a casino requires a KYC process before you can withdraw money, then you can say it is a legitimate one. It is compliant with international expectations, and you can rest assured that they are not an arm of an illegal syndicate. Without this process, you should think twice and perhaps look for another online casino.

5. Online Reviews

The last tip we have, which is a short one, is to go to forums and review sites. Most of these are blogs. Some of these have been around for decades, and you can have confidence that they are “watchdogs” in the gambling industry.

Of course, use your wisdom here. Some blogs do not review casinos — they merely write something about the site so they can recommend it and then earn a commission if they convince you to sign up for an account.

The iGaming industry is a heavily regulated one. It is easy to track whether or not a casino has a legitimate license, and all it takes is a few moments of your time. Do not take risks — investigate if your favorite gambling site has a license to operate, or you will get burned.

You can also go to review sites and read about customer feedback and experience. Be aware, however, that many complaints about online casinos are silly. Some players complain that the games are rigged because they never won. Casinos do not rig games — it’s just that all games were designed in favor of the house.

Crucial things to know when moving to NYC for the first time

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

It might be exciting and intimidating to move to the Big Apple, the city that never sleeps. With its soaring skyscrapers, varied neighborhoods, and limitless prospects, New York City is irresistible. But as a brand-new New York City citizen, there are a few important things you should know before you pack your bags and move to the Empire State. This guide will get you ready for the trip of a lifetime, from using the subway system to comprehending the city's distinctive culture.

Neighborhood Diversity Is Key

The communities that makeup New York City are a large mosaic, each with its own unique personality and allure. It's important to thoroughly research your alternatives, whether you're drawn to the posh atmosphere of Manhattan's Upper East Side or the artistic mood of Brooklyn's Williamsburg.

Every area offers its own way of life and atmosphere. Others offer green spaces or lively nightlife, while some place a higher priority on closeness to workplaces. Spend some time learning about the neighborhoods, going there in person, and deciding what is most important to you and your way of life. Your decision here could have a big effect on how you live your life in the city.

Embrace Public Transportation

The NYC subway system, which offers a quick and practical means of transportation, is the city's lifeblood. The ability to read a subway map, buy a MetroCard, and distinguish between express and local trains are all priceless.

But don't stop there; familiarize yourself with the transport and walking routes as well. Mastering public transit will help you move about the city with ease. Many New Yorkers choose not to possess cars because of the convenience of the city's public transportation system.

Costs Can Be Staggering

The high expense of living in New York City is well known. be a thorough budget before you leave on your journey to be sure you can handle your spending. Prices might be high, and it's simple to spend too much on anything from groceries to entertainment.

Be ready for a crowded market when looking for apartments for rent in because many people have the same agenda as you. The cost of renting might differ significantly amongst neighborhoods. Consider roommates to divide the cost of housing and keep an open mind about other housing choices. Remember that other expenses can quickly accumulate, such as broker fees and security deposits.

The Art of Apartment Hunting

Finding an apartment in NYC might be difficult. To speed up the process, begin your search early, make a list of essentials, and think about working with a real estate agent.

A strong credit history, references, and a lot of paperwork are frequently required for rental applications. Present yourself as a desirable tenant by making sure your financial papers are in order. There are a variety of apartments for rent in New-York so make sure to fully research the market. Always check out prospective apartments in person before signing a lease, and be on the lookout for fraud. It's important to choose your new city home after doing your research.

Examine your options for contract and freelancing work, which may offer worthwhile connections and experience. People who are proactive and eager to seize possibilities when they present themselves are rewarded in the city. Be willing to work hard and adjust to the particular requirements of the New York job market.

Embrace the Energy

The energizing and infectious spirit of New York City is palpable. The city offers a wide variety of experiences, from the crowded streets of Times Square to the peaceful serenity of Central Park. Enjoy the rich cultural diversity of the city and the distinctive energy that makes New York what it is.

Safety and Street Smarts

Although New York City is generally safe, it's important to exercise caution, especially in crowded locations and after dark. Observe your possessions, lock up your personal goods, and pay attention to your surroundings.

Learn the emergency phone numbers for your area and the hospitals and police stations that are closest to you. In a city like New York, where life moves so quickly and dynamically, it's critical to achieve a balance between safety and adventure. You can take advantage of everything the city has to offer while being safe if you take a few common sense precautions.

Be Prepared for Weather Extremes

New York City enjoys the complete range of the four seasons. Summers can be oppressive, with frequent highs of 90 or more degrees Fahrenheit (32°C). On the other hand, winters can be extremely cold with routinely below-freezing temperatures along with snow and ice.

Make an investment in a well-rounded wardrobe that includes a thick coat, reliable boots, and an umbrella. Watch the weather prediction closely because it will have a big impact on your everyday activities. You'll quickly discover that New Yorkers have a flair for adjusting to shifting weather patterns.

Cultural Diversity and Acceptance

Investigating the role of bird perches in reforestation

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Reforesting damaged forests is crucial for fighting climate change and protecting wildlife. One common way to do this is by planting trees, but this can be expensive and labor-intensive. A cheaper and more effective approach is Assisted Natural Regeneration (ANR), which can involve the use of bird perches to attract fruit-eating birds that can help spread tree seeds and speed up the natural regeneration of the forest.

A Philippine green pigeon (Treron axillaris) is seen eating a fig, the seeds of which will be dispersed the next time the bird defecates. Researchers are looking at the potential role of artificial and natural bird perches in this dispersal process towards restoring degraded forests.(Photo credit: Jelaine Lim Gan)

Researchers from the University of the Philippines - Diliman College of Science Institute of Biology (UPD-CS IB), the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research, and the UK’s Newcastle University aim to embark on a systematic review and meta analysis of previous studies and observations to figure out how well artificial and natural perches work in increasing seed dispersal and seedling growth on degraded areas.

“The results will synthesize available evidence on the topic, identify knowledge gaps we need filling to upscale the strategy, and inform their use in concert with other ANR strategies,” the researchers said in their paper. “The search strategy was informed through a literature scan and discussions with stakeholders and experts,” they added.

The meta study aims to see if perches help bring in more seeds and seedlings in terms of numbers and types. The researchers hope to learn how to use perches better and combine them with other strategies to bring damaged forests back to life.

Marcos Jr's Energy Plan Remains Silent on Electricity Rate Cuts

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Kuryente.Org commended the Department of Energy (DoE) for publicizing its proposed road map for the country’s energy and electricity plan under the Marcos administration, but also scolded the agency for failing to present plans for electricity price reduction.

The DoE launched its Luzon-wide public consultation on its proposed Philippine Energy Plan (PEP) for 2023 – 2050 last August 30, 2023. The roadmap provides the guide and framework for the current government’s policies and programs to achieve its goal of energy sufficiency, reliability and affordability to boost its economic goals.

“The presentation provides a robust and vibrant economic projection and assumptions to ensure the country’s energy and power security for the next decades. True to the marching orders of the President during its second State of the Nation Address, the PEP also include its projection for renewable energy and nuclear energy development from which DOE projected by the end of current administration’s term the country will be enjoying 96MW of energy,” said Roland Vibal, national coordinator for Kuryente.org

However, the group is not satisfied with the proposed PEP as it failed to present a clear projection of how the current and projected efforts in energy supply will lead to lower electricity rates which ironically remains at the second highest after Singapore in the ASEAN region.

“We welcome the current DoE’s effort to ensure energy sufficiency and clean energy source, but this is not enough if such efforts do not redound to lower electricity prices,” Vibal added

“The roadmap is incomplete as it fails to provide electricity consumers, particularly household electricity consumers, with electricity price reduction in coming years. The PEP failed to lay down policies and programs to make the country’s electricity affordable to all. Assuring the public of energy and electricity security is not enough. It must also assure the public of lower electricity price,” Vibal said.

The group ended by reminding the DOE that its Electricity Power Roadmap must be aligned with the goals of Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) to lower the country's electricity rate which two decades after remains just an aspiration.
