Wazzup Pilipinas: From Emerging Influential to Most Outstanding

WAZZUP PILIPINAS is a multi-awarded online platform and community of Influencers and Content Creators that shares news and stories mostly about the Philippines. They have been collaborating with many brands, companies, government agencies, LGUs, NGOs, private companies and events organizers, colleges and universities, trade fairs and expositions, mainstream and online media, and just about everyone else as either their media partner or resource persons, among the many other roles that they perform in the partnership or collaboration.

Aside from their travel and tourism campaigns like the Influencers Tours (of cities and municipalities) where they highlight the many tourist attractions of the country, the Influencers Feasts, featuring the many foodie finds like restaurants and other food providers, it is also among their advocacy to help reshape the dominating online content, especially on social media that is sadly littered with rude and irritating pranks, scandals, controversies, and adult or sexually-oriented content negatively serving as inferior form of entertainment with less significant learning opportunities damaging our minds especially of the youth, thus they also organized the Umalohokan Influencers and Content Creators Workshops where they have the common goal to elevate and professionalize the Content Creation industry primarily because they believe it is rightful that they help motivate and encourage fellow content creators to come out with better, and morally, ethically and legally-aligned content that are truly inspiring and worth emulating but equally rewarding as well.

As one of the DOT slogan says "Rethinking Tourism" for travel, it is also highly necessary to rethink in creating worthwhile content so influencers could help our country rise up projecting a better and improved image of Filipino content creators since it has always been the Filipino people that truly gives the ultimate reason why It's More Fun in the Philippines.

Founder ROSS FLORES DEL ROSARIO started Wazzup Pilipinas as a blog but it has evolved into more than just an online magazine that doesn't only shares news and stories about the Philippines but since he has also been invited to collaborate or partner with brands originating from other countries, he also publishes articles about foreign travel recommendations, events, and the many happenings that goes on at other countries.

Aside from promoting Philippine attractions, Ross has been dubbed as the Philippines' Pambansang Blogger for proudly advocating many Filipino work and creations, by also partnering with government agencies including national and local government units, Medium, Small and Micro Entrepreneurs (MSMEs), as well as smaller businesses, especially those who were affected by the pandemic to help them bounce back from the challenging years we all experienced. He has also been actively supporting events and projects of NGOs, and even involved in doing outreaches and similar programs for local communities. He would never decline requests for partnership with the youth because he believes that the youth deserve all the help they could get to eventually become more productive and responsible professionals and leaders of our nation, thus Wazzup Pilipinas is a frequent media partner of the many organizations of colleges and universities and other youth-led movements.

Ross is not a newbie when it comes to TV and radio guestings as he has appeared as guest on many shows including GMA 7's Ang Pinaka where he rated the top festivals in the Philippines, and then again for the second time when he was asked to rate the most viral or trending topics on social media. He also appeared on ABS-CBN's Rated K where he gave possible food trends for the coming year, and was also invited to guest on ABS-CBN's Magandang Buhay to talk about his Plantito passion advocating growing our own food through urban vegetable gardens that blossomed during the pandemic. Ross also appeared on other TV and radio shows including UNTV's Good Morning Kuya to discuss about "Fake News", Bread N' Butter featuring restaurants, and other attractions, and was also featured on Inquirer TV to talk about the popularity of social media, interviewed on PTV4 News about an event they organized, among many others. He was also a regular guests at notable teleradio shows including being a co-host at Vigattin Radio of Radyo Inquirer, had their own teleradio show on 8Trimedia where Wazzup Pilipinas TV aired with him as the main host, and continously guesting on other shows of many radio stations like DWBL, DZME, DWDD, and many others including online shows that flourished especially during the pandemic when social interaction or gathering was discouraged... and then lately on Pa-Talk of DZAR/SMNI, and Pilipinas Ngayon Na of DWIZ who eventually partnered with him. He also had a foray into the movies, playing the role of one of the godfathers of Ella Cruz's character in the movie "Martyr or Murderer" where he also had an interaction with the character of Christine Reyes playing the younger Senator Imee Marcos...and has also been given a minor role at a new upcoming TV Series called Tropa Peeps where he will play as a City Councilor and father of one of the lead teenagers.

Wazzup Pilipinas is celebrating their 10th year as an online presence and has been recognized for many achievements including getting Hall of Famer recognition when it comes to awards, receiving consecutive awards several times from many prestigious award-giving bodies. More accolades are definitely coming that we will soon won't have enough room to put them all in one magazine. Kudos to Mr. Ross Del Rosario, the Founder of Wazzup Pilipinas!"

Vision Express launches VEX Cares; surprises viral paper artist

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In a resounding display of commitment to the visual well-being of Filipinos, Vision Express proudly celebrated Sight Saving Month in August and launched VEX Cares, a groundbreaking initiative poised to become a transformative force, providing free eye health services to every Filipino from infancy through the golden years.

One of its most special beneficiaries is Ronnel David, a viral artist whose paper flowers have brought boundless joy not only to the streets of Mandaluyong City but also to social media platforms worldwide. His story touched the hearts of millions of netizens, prompting one of them to reach out to Vision Express.

"We believe in the power of clear vision to enrich lives and inspire creativity. Ronnel's story resonated with us, and Vision Express, through VEX Cares, is proud to contribute to his journey," says Vision Express Managing Director Neelam Gopwani.

Ronnel's life took a radiant turn when Vision Express extended its hand, offering him free comprehensive eye exam, eyeglasses complete with customized progressive lenses, and a rejuvenated spirit.

Vision Express lives up to its commitment to transforming lives through clear vision, which is also evident through VEX Cares' launch of "Vision for Education," a partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) aimed at ensuring that students across the nation gain access to unparalleled eye care.

The campaign comprises a series of eye-health advocacy drives, complimentary eye tests, and the distribution of eyeglasses, all with the ultimate goal of empowering students to shine in their academic pursuits.

This commitment finds embodiment through Vision Express' participation in a series of DepEd events, such as the Palarong Pambansa 2023 in Marikina, where it served student athletes and coaches from NCR, Region 3, and Region 6. Vision Express also provided free products and services at the Brigada Eskwela 2023 Kickoff Event held in Tarlac City. Additionally, it has embarked on a countrywide tour for its participation at the National Learning Camp in West Fairview National High School and Bacoor National High School in Quezon City and Cavite, respectively.

Also under the VEX Cares program are expansive “Vision For Life” outreach projects, where partnerships have been forged with institutions such as the GMA Kapuso Foundation, Insular Life, UnionBank of the Philippines, and Dasmarinas Village Association, among others. These alliances aim to provide free eye check-ups and eyeglasses to diverse segments of society strengthening VEX Cares’ all-encompassing approach to eye care throughout life's journey.

"We are dedicated to making eye care accessible to all segments of society. Through these partnerships, we enable our mission of 'Vision For Life' and create a life-changing impact throughout the country," emphasizes Vision Express Head of Learning and Development, Maureen Jean Miakka Lim.

Moving forward, VEX Cares is set to continue its caravan of free eye health products and services throughout the Philippine archipelago. Drives are scheduled at Lyceum Northwestern University Dagupan, Iloilo National High School, and Davao National High School, to name a few.

As Vision Express continues to generate positive change, it solidifies its position at the forefront of eye care in the country. Through VEX Cares, Vision Express not only reinforces its mission to safeguard vision, but it also exemplifies its commitment to enhancing lives and fostering a brighter future for all Filipinos.

Fossil fuel projects must end now!

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

For decades, fossil fuel giants have been holding back progress towards achieving a carbon-free future. In fact, they’re making the problem worse by expanding production.

Yet, governments are planning fossil fuel production that will result in more than double the safe level of emissions by 2030.

That’s right, we’ve already got enough fossil fuels to blast through the limit deemed safe for humanity.

Projected carbon dioxide emissions from all the fossil fuel-producing infrastructure that currently exists (including under-construction oil and gas fields and coal mines) would warm the world beyond the 1.5 degree Celsius, a global climate target that aims to limit warming to said level by 2100, in order to prevent the planet from slipping into further climate crises.

What’s more, investing in clean energy instead of fossil fuels would not only reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and result in 30 times the number of jobs created by a comparable investment in fossil fuels, it’s also already way cheaper.

It’s almost the end of 2023 as we reach 2024, and fossil fuel projects are still being given the green light. That needs to end, now.

International Coastal Clean-up/National Clean-up Month

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP

In celebration of the National Clean-up Month, the Dept of Environment and Natural Resources - NCR has prepared a line up of activities for the month of September.

What is ICC?

The month of September was declared "National Clean-up Month" by virtue of Proclamation No. 244 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos, its purpose is to encourage citizens to clean and preserve nature as everyone's contribution to the conservation and protection of the environment and natural resources, and also to be the country's contribution to the environmental conservation efforts around the world.

Also included in the month of September is the annual holding of the "International Coastal Clean-up or ICC", which is said to be the largest gathering of volunteers for the simultaneous cleaning of seas, rivers, lakes, and other waterways around the world to fight the threat of ocean pollution.

ICC is the largest volunteer effort in the world devoted to cleaning the ocean and finding solutions to ocean pollution. Held every third Saturday of September each year. The first coastal cleanup was organized by Ocean Conservancy, a US-based non-profit organization, in 1986 and was held on the coast of Texas, USA.

ICC in the Philippines

The Philippines first started joining the ICC in 1994. In 2003, then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued Proclamation No. 470 formally declaring the third Saturday of September as ICC Day.

ICC in National Capital Region

The DENR National Capital Region was active in holding the ICC in 2014 where it organized a simultaneous clean-up drive in different areas here in Metro Manila. Since then, it has been regularly participated by thousands of cleanup volunteers. Especially in 2019, when the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program also known by the hashtag “Battle for Manila Bay” was also launched.

What makes ICC different from other clean-up activities?

What makes the ICC unique, aside from the simultaneous and coordinated global execution is the emphasis on organized scientific data collection. Volunteers are requested, not only to pick up litter but also to identify and record the rubbish on a standardized data card. The debris information generated is encoded into a database for analysis by pollution specialists who are racing against time to develop solutions to the marine debris problem.

Process of recording cleanup data

The focal person/office shall ensure that all cleanup volunteers are well aware of the “TeamDENRNCR” system that shall be observed during the cleanup. The “#TeamDENRNCR” will require volunteers to group themselves into at least five (5) members each and assign a Trash Collector, Trash Sorter, and Trash Data Encoder for their team. The focal person/office should assign a team to a particular area in the cleanup site to avoid overcrowding.

The Trash Data Encoder will be responsible for recording the type and quantity of trash collected by their team in the ICC Trash Data Form, which will be provided by the designated focal person of the cleanup site. The e-copy of the form shall be received by the participants prior to the cleanup day to reproduce and distribute.

The Trash Data Encoder shall be in charge of proper recording in the ICC Trash Data Form the type and quantity (per piece and/or bulk weight) of all the trash that their team can recover during the cleanup.

After the cleanup, volunteers must submit their accomplished ICC Trash Data Form to the focal person/office of DENR-NCR per site for accounting and consolidation of collected trash data. The same will be consolidated per cleanup site for submission to the RSCIG. RSCIG shall consolidate the forms for the drafting of the regional report.

2023 Metro Manila’s Identified Cleanup Sites

2. Las PiΓ±as – ParaΓ±aque Wetland Park (LPPWP);

3. Baseco Beach, Manila City;

4. Tanza Marine Tree Park (TMTP), Navotas City;

10. Back of Solaire Hotel and Resort Casino, Brgy. Tambo, ParaΓ±aque City

How to join?

- Register

- Coordination

- Orientation

- Prepare cleaning implements

- Be on time

The first thing to do is register at this link found on the official Facebook page of the DENR National Capital Region. When registering, select any of the ten cleanup sites you want to participate in.

Part of the registration form is if you are a solo participant, as a family or barkada, and as part of an organization. Note, that it is important to register through the link as the DENR-NCR strictly does not accept walk-in participants at the cleanup sites to avoid overcrowding. Priority to be given orientation and admission to the designated sites for those who have registered through our link.

Once done, the next step is to wait for official communication from the designated focal person of your preferred site. You will also be advised for a formal orientation about ICC to know the do's and don'ts when it comes to cleaning, and other important details for it.

ICC is a volunteer activity, so don't forget to bring cleaning materials. Bring your own food and water tumbler too. Of course, wear comfortable clothes.

And of course, after orientation, are you ready? Because the ICC day is here next. Go to your cleanup site at the time that the focal persons will give you.

India's ICC World Cup Squad Selection: Balancing Fear and Courage

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The stage is set, the stakes are high, and India's ICC World Cup team selection has ignited debates across cricketing circles. With a blend of apprehension and audacity, the team aims to conquer the cricketing world.

India's Bold Yet Cautious World Cup Squad Selection

India's upcoming ICC World Cup selection has divided cricket enthusiasts. The team seems to be walking a tightrope between fear and courage as they attempt to assemble a squad capable of winning the prestigious tournament. This article delves into the team's choices and the underlying apprehension that guided their selection decisions.

Now, as the cricketing world anticipates the unfolding drama of the ongoing Asia Cup, they can dive headfirst into the thrill and excitement. By placing bets on their preferred teams and players at https://ggbetcenter.net/tl-ph, enthusiasts worldwide can actively engage in the exhilarating journey of this tournament.

Fear of Lower-Order Runs

One glaring fear influencing India's squad selection is the concern about lower-order batting. What if the tailenders, batting at No. 8 to No. 11, fail to contribute those crucial 20 runs when needed most? Including players like Shardul Thakur and Axar Patel is an attempt to address this concern. India hopes these all-rounders can bolster the lower order and provide the much-needed firepower.

Spin Conundrum: Ashwin or Chahal?

Another critical dilemma is the selection of spinners. The fear of spinners failing with the ball and bat led to hesitation in choosing between experienced campaigners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal. It seems India was apprehensive about sacrificing batting depth for bowling prowess, opting for a squad that seeks to balance both aspects without unwavering conviction.

Inconsistent Middle-Order

The uncertainty surrounding the middle-order batting is also evident. What if the middle order doesn't perform as expected? This fear pushed the selectors to consider Ishan Kishan as a left-handed option, hoping to add more stability. However, questions linger about Kishan's consistency at the international level despite his impressive performance against Pakistan in the Asia Cup.

Pitch Selection Strategy

Before the tournament, there was a strategic choice in selecting venues with slow, spin-friendly tracks, seemingly tailored to India's strengths. It appeared to be a clever move to neutralize opponents' strengths. However, this plan lost its steam, as the selectors lacked the confidence to persist. They withdrew Ashwin and Chahal from the race, fearing a lack of batting depth.

Dependence on Key Players

India's World Cup campaign heavily relies on the performances of a few key players. Kuldeep Yadav must step up as the primary wicket-taker in the middle overs, while Hardik Pandya is responsible for contributing vital runs from the lower order. The team's fate may hinge on whether these players can consistently deliver under pressure.

Uncertainty in Bowling Combinations

The fear of a weak batting lineup has also cast doubt on the team's bowling combinations. It remains unclear whether India will have the confidence to unleash both Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah together or if they'll opt for a more balanced approach. The fear of losing batting power could influence this crucial decision.

Lack of Conviction in Selections

One overarching theme is the lack of conviction in India's squad selections. Throughout the lead-up to the tournament, the team experimented with several players, only to discard them quickly. This indecision raises questions about the selection process and its effectiveness. Including players like Deepak Hooda and Venkatesh Iyer, who were eventually dropped, remains puzzling.

Wrapping Up

India's ICC World Cup squad selection perfectly balances fear and courage. While the team has sought to address various weaknesses, there is a palpable apprehension about the squad's overall balance. The success of this campaign hinges on inspired captaincy from Rohit Sharma and intelligent XI selections by Rahul Dravid. Whether they can rise above their fears and uncertainties to become great leaders in cricket's history remains to be seen. The World Cup will serve as the ultimate test of their legacy, and whether they succeed or falter, it will not come as a complete shock given the turbulent journey of squad selection.

Waypoints Project conducts media training on maritime security issues

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In time for Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month, the Waypoints Project conducted a Media Training on Civil Maritime Governance on September 8, 2023.

The three-hour in-person event provided basic information on civil maritime governance for journalists from various publications and news organizations to aid in understanding the intricacies of reporting about issues within the sector.

The training was conducted against the backdrop of varying issues arising from maritime governance, including escalating tensions on the West Philippine Sea and the Marcos administration’s push for programs prioritizing the ‘blue economy’ - a framework of management and development of ocean resources. The training also emphasized the importance of passing the Maritime Zones (MZ) Law, which will declare the Philippine maritime zones based on standards set by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). It will also clarify the geographical extent of the Philippine maritime domain and the legal powers that the Philippine government may exercise. The House of Representatives approved House Bill 7819 or the proposed Philippine Maritime Zones Act in May 2023 while several versions of the Maritime Zones Bill have been filed in the Senate.

Speakers included Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya from the National Security Council, Dr. Rosalie Hall, Political Science professor from the University of the Philippines Visayas; Dr. Laura David, Professor from the University of the Philippines, and Julio Amador, founder of Amador Research Services and Senior Adviser for Waypoints Project. The event was moderated by Anna Oposa, Executive Director for Save Philippine Seas and communications advisor for Waypoints Project.

“The MZ Law will not only delineate the country’s maritime zones but will also serve as a foundational policy that can help improve the Philippines' maritime governance and the implementation of current and subsequent maritime laws,” said Julio Amador, Waypoints Senior Adviser.

The journalists who attended the media training learned about the depth and breadth of civil maritime governance issues in the Philippines including matters of security and sovereignty, blue economy, food security, and environmental protection.

The Waypoints Project supports initiatives to address issues in the civil maritime security sector and establishing multiple avenues for communication and discussion that will engage key stakeholders on Philippine civil maritime issues. Honda Philippines’ CRF Clinic and Track Day: Off-Road Fun and Knowledge for Everyone

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Honda Philippines, Inc., and JMS Motocross School partner for a memorable Off-Roading clinic.

Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI), the No.1 motorcycle manufacturer in the country together with the JMS Motocross School recently organized the first Honda CRF Clinic and Track Day. This was in line with the company’s initiative to further promote off-road riding by giving Filipino riders the chance to learn the necessary motocross skills from one of the best motocross schools in the country.

The fun activity was facilitated by the legendary Off-Road rider Coach Jovie Saulog of the JMS Motocross School.

Participants had the chance to learn about the product facilitated by Emmanuel Dayo, Honda Philippines, Inc. MC Sales Coordinator. The seminar was followed by an Off-Road Training Lecture and an actual demonstration, respectively. This ensured that the attendees were better prepared on how to handle the motorcycles.

“We are privileged to be partners with the Honda Philippines and excited to have the CRF bikes for use in the school. This partnership is important to our organization because we believe that this gives us the opportunity to further promote and professionalize the sport of motocross,” said Coach Jovie Saulog of JM Motocross School. “Moreover, motocross is fast becoming a popular sport, and getting more people interested in this can get more people to engage in it.”

The Honda Off-road competition bikes showcased during the event, namely, CRF125F, CRF150R, CRF250R, CRF250RX, and CRF450R. Furthermore, vloggers and media attendees also got the opportunity to experience riding these awesome bikes at the clinic. This way, the participants got the chance to find out which motocross bike best suits them.

Starting with the CRF125F, with an SRP of Php189,000.00 features a 125cc, Air-cooled, Single-Cylinder, 2-Valve, 4-Stroke, with a 260mm Ground Clearance, 785mm seat height. These specs make the bike ideal for beginner riders, particularly youngsters. The CRF150R (SRP of Php306,000.00) on the other hand is powered by a 150cc Liquid-Cooled, 4-Valve, 4-Stroke Unicam Single engine. When combined with its 336mm Ground Clearance, and 866mm seat height this bike offers outstanding performance for riders with greater Off-Road riding experience.

Honda also showcased the CRF250R and the CRF250RX that are engineered for Filipino riders who are looking for a bike that can allow you to explore the outdoors with ease. With an SRP of Php459,000.00 and Php469,000.00 respectively, these bikes are equipped with a 250cc Liquid-Cooled, Single-Cylinder, 4-Stroke DOHC engine offering enough performance to tackle your favorite off-road course. Where they differ is the CRF250R features a 333mm Ground Clearance, 961 mm Seat Height and 104kg Curb Weight with rear tire size of 100/90-19 Pirelli MX32 Midsoft. These features make it an ideal bike for Off-Road enduro race. While, the CRF250RX boasts a 335mm Ground Clearance, 964mm Seat Height and 108kg Curb Weight with rear Tire Size of 110/100 – 18 64M making it perfect for both trail and enduro races. If you want the best of both motocross and enduro worlds, the CRF250RX suits you.

Finally, Honda also provided the CRF450R for riders who want to seriously get into motocross racing. This race-winning bike is powered by a 450cc Liquid-Cooled 4-Stroke Single Cylinder SOHC 5-speed manual engine. When combined with its 49mm Upside-Down Front and Pro-Link Rear suspension - both by Showa - as well as 21-inch front/18-inch rear wheels, you get a motorcycle that’s both powerful and easy to handle. But that’s not all; this bike is also equipped with HRC Launch Control and Engine Mode Select buttons giving you a definite performance edge over the rest of the competition.

All in all, the Honda CRF Clinic and Track Day ended on a high note as it provided a fun and exciting experience to its participants while it promoted the sport of motocross and adventure to its enthusiasts. VP-Sec. Duterte bares plan in fulfilling support to teachers in 2023 National Teachers’ Month kick-off

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Emphasizing the Department of Education’s (DepEd) commitment to supporting teachers in the MATATAG Agenda, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte enumerated the plans of the Department to improve teachers’ welfare during the National Teachers’ Month (NTM) 2023 kick-off ceremony held at Bohol Wisdom School, Tagbilaran City, hosted by DepEd Region VII and Schools Division Office of Bohol.

“The Department of Education's MATATAG Agenda is not just a slogan. It is our roadmap to institutionalize reforms within the Department. This includes the protection of your rights and the promotion of your welfare,” VP-Secretary Duterte noted.

To improve teachers’ financial capacity, the VP-Sec. Duterte noted that the Department is coordinating with the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) to address concerns over accrued interests or arrears of teachers’ loans.

The Education Secretary also revealed that after the current school year, DepEd will give 30 days of uninterrupted rest to teachers to recover from school tasks.

“We make sure that in this year’s school calendar, teachers will have 30 straight days of rest during the break without any DepEd activity that requires volunteer work. On activities with voluntary participation, it will be scheduled after the 30-day break,” she noted.

Additionally, the VP-Sec. Duterte also reported that with the help of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr., the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the provision of 3,500 Administrative Officer positions and 1,500 Project Development Officer positions to be deployed in public schools to help teachers with their administrative tasks.

"Soon, you will be relieved from the administrative responsibilities that prevent you from focusing or enhancing our students' learning,” VP-Sec. Duterte noted.

With the theme "Together4Teachers", National Teachers Month 2023 aims to acknowledge and emphasize teachers' crucial role, loyal service, and dedicated commitment to developing globally-minded citizens, nurturing families, strengthening communities, and building the nation. VP-Sec Duterte also acknowledged the help of the NTM Coordinating Council and private partners supporting the celebration of the NTM.

The NTM kick-off also featured the launching and unveiling the NTM commemorative stamp and signing the official first-day cover led by Mr. Luis D. Carlos, Postmaster General and CEO of the Philippine Postal Corporation. Several teachers also showcased their talents in the Teachers’ Got Talent portion.

The celebration was also attended by Senator Imee Marcos, Governor Erico Aristotle Augmentado, and DepEd officials and personnel. The event was also held with the support the National Teachers’ Month Coordinating Council (NTMCC) through the NTMCC Co-Chair Mr. Aniceto SobrepeΓ±a.
