8 Innovations That Will Increase Customers’ Trust in Your Business

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In a competitive marketplace, trust serves as the bedrock upon which lasting customer relationships are built. For businesses in the small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) and startup sector in countries like the Philippines, these relationships are not only essential for survival but also for thriving and expanding.

Trust fosters customer loyalty, encourages repeat business, and paves the way for positive word-of-mouth recommendations. By consistently delivering on promises, being transparent in operations, and prioritizing customer satisfaction, establishments can foster a strong connection that resonates with their clientele—leading to sustainable growth and a solid reputation in the local business landscape.

There are plenty of ways to earn a customer’s trust, especially through modern business innovations. Here are some of the tools commonly used by businesses and how you can maximize them to reach out to an increasingly tech-savvy and demanding consumer base:

1) POS Systems

POS or point-of-sale systems serve as hubs for transactions and customer interactions. These systems can be relied on to streamline payment processes, inventory management, and sales tracking. A reliable POS system like the one that comes with the Philippines’ Maya credit card terminal, for example, both expedites transactions and enhances customer experiences by reducing wait times and ensuring accuracy.

Meanwhile, providing prompt and efficient service through the use of a mobile POS system and credit card machine, like the Maya Terminal Lite, enables businesses to build trust with customers who appreciate smooth and cashless interactions. By accepting a wide variety of digital and contactless payment options through the Maya credit card terminal, companies can also make a strong positive impression on customers who prefer to pay using digital funds.

To strengthen customer connections, your establishment can use portable payment terminal systems to accept cash-on-delivery, issue digital receipts, and track purchase histories and preferences. These can enhance customer interactions and help your business demonstrate a keen understanding of your customer’s individual needs.

2) Digital Security Solutions

Digital security solutions also play an important role in gaining the trust of your tech-savvy customers. These solutions encompass encryption, multi-factor authentication, and firewalls that safeguard sensitive customer data against cyber threats.

Robust digital security will broker confidence among your customers, assuring them that their information is in safe hands. This, in turn, can help them feel secure when transacting with your business. Your effort to prioritize your customers’ data security will allow your company to establish a solid foundation for long-lasting customer trust and loyalty.

3) Privacy Policy and Compliance Tools

A privacy policy and compliance tools will give your customers a glimpse of your business’s data handling practices, showing how much you strive to adhere to relevant regulations. Businesses that maintain clear and comprehensive privacy policies demonstrate to customers that their information is handled responsibly, thus building a sense of transparency and integrity.

On the other hand, by using compliance tools to ensure alignment with data protection laws, your establishment shows its dedication to following the law and creates an environment where customers feel safe and respected. This can help nurture positive impressions on your business.

4) Customer Relationship Management Systems

Customer relationship management (CRM) systems are versatile tools that are designed to help businesses manage interactions with clients throughout their journey. These systems can help your own venture maintain organized customer profiles, track preferences, and tailor communications accordingly.

Understanding individual needs, and offering personalized experiences that reflect these, will strengthen your business’s relationship with its customers. Consider investing in a dedicated CRM solution to solidify customers’ trust and brand loyalty.

5) Review and Testimonial Platforms

Review and testimonial platforms enable customers to share their experiences and opinions openly. These platforms offer your company the opportunity to showcase positive feedback and demonstrate a track record of satisfied customers.

Positive reviews build credibility and trust among potential customers, who are more likely to engage with a business endorsed by others. Encourage reviews and respond thoughtfully to feedback to shape an online reputation that invites trust from both new and returning customers.

6) Customer Feedback and Survey Tools

Customer feedback and survey tools provide valuable insights into customer preferences and satisfaction levels. Actively seeking feedback from your customers not only shows that you value their opinions but also indicates a commitment to improvement.

Use your customer feedback and survey tools to address concerns and make enhancements to your operations. Customers will remember a business that’s willing to listen and adapt, and this quality will play an important role in keeping them engaged.

7) Social Media Engagement Tools

Social media engagement tools facilitate real-time interactions with customers on various platforms. These allow your business to respond promptly to queries, address concerns, and engage in meaningful conversations—activities that can show customers that their voices are heard and valued.

Be responsive and approachable on social media, and you’ll be able to nurture a sense of community and belonging among members of your target audience. This, in turn, will establish an environment of trust that inspires customer loyalty.

8) Employee Development Platforms

Lastly, don’t forget the role of your employees in being the face of your business and mediators of customer trust. Invest in an employee development platform to empower your staff with the skills and knowledge to provide excellent customer service. If your employees are well-trained, they’ll be able to interact confidently with customers, provide accurate information to questions about your business, and adequately demonstrate their expertise.

By investing in employee development, your company can ensure that customer interactions are consistently positive, leading to higher levels of trust and satisfaction.

When you can fully utilize the array of tools and innovations at your disposal, you’ll be better equipped to forge strong relationships with customers in your target market. Through solutions that facilitate secure transactions, personalized experiences, and genuine interactions, your venture can cultivate a sense of trust that radiates through every aspect of its operations. The trust of your customers, in turn, will serve as a solid foundation for the future success of your business.

BPI launches new AI-powered tool to help Filipinos ‘Track and Plan’ their spending like a boss

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The new BPI app’s Track and Plan is a pioneering feature that empowers people to manage their money wisely. It’s like having a personal finance manager right at your fingertips!

The Bank of the Philippine Islands recently rolled out its first-in-the-industry feature on the new BPI app. Aptly called Track and Plan, this tool utilizes AI to track and analyze your financial activities on the BPI app, share insights on your spending habits, and even offer suggestions for smarter financial investments—so you can plan for your future.

You may have already seen it when you logged on to your BPI app. It’s the animated scrolling cards at the top of the screen. Based on your latest transactions, Track and Plan will generate insights around your cashflow and float up snippets to notify you of, say, similar withdrawals made back-to-back.

You can get the full insight with more details when you click on the notification and easily get in touch with BPI if you need to.

Another insight could be about unexpected changes in deposits from a familiar payor made to your account.

When your balance is consistently high that it sufficiently covers your average monthly expenses, Track and Plan will suggest ways you can invest and grow your extra funds.

Track and Plan can also monitor trends in your spending and alert you in case your bill was higher than your average—so you can be more mindful of your budget.

This AI-powered tool generates unique insights that only you can view, and you can rest assured about the privacy of your financial transactions. It is the first of its kind in the industry. By design, Track and Plan will continue to give you new insights based on your app usage.

"I have been covering the financial industry for decades and I have never seen a banking app that acts like a financial advisor with powerful access to tools that allow anyone to move from knowledge to action,” says veteran journalist and ‘Financial Beshie ng Bayan’ Salve Duplito. “Let’s face it, most of us get offended when someone tells us we are spending too much, but with Track and Plan, it’s like you telling you! So our emotional human experience gets a big jolt of logic — and that could be transformational in bringing our country’s savings rate higher.”

“We at BPI are excited to unveil Track and Plan, our AI-powered personal finance management tool on the new BPI app,” says Mariana Zobel de Ayala, Consumer Marketing and Platforms Head at BPI. “We are leveraging technology to simplify money management to empower Filipinos to do more and make their lives better every day. This feature essentially scales BPI’s seasoned and personalized financial advice to millions of Filipinos and is the next step forward in BPI’s evolution. Our customers can look forward to more in-depth insights and actionable advice as we continue to develop this feature.”

As AI learns from patterns or features in data, insights from Track and Plan gets better the more you use it. BPI will also be expanding its capabilities in the coming months so users will eventually have the option to turn on automatic monthly investments, schedule their most frequent transactions, and best of all, stay on top of their spending and earnings with a built-in budget tracker. All these will be available exclusively on the new BPI app.

Time to “move app,” don’t you think?

To start getting AI-powered insights, download the new BPI app if you haven’t yet—or update to the latest version. Download it here or scan the QR code below.

Sunsetting of the old BPI app is targeted for September 30, 2023. Download the new app and activate your devices by then!

CIC Prepares for Girder Launching Activity in CAVITEX

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Cavitex Infrastructure Corporation (CIC), the concessionaire of the Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), is set to commence the girder launching activity for the CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2 R1 Interchange.

Scheduled from September 15 to September 25, 2023, between 10 PM to 4 AM, CIC will implement counterflow schemes at the Parañaque Toll Plaza. The scheme will be in effect from September 15 to 19, 2023, for Manila-bound traffic, and from September 19 to 25, 2023, for Cavite-bound traffic. To alleviate congestion during the activity, CIC will activate counterflow lanes as needed.

CIC President and General Manager, Mr. Raul L. Ignacio, emphasized, "CAVITEX C5 Link Segment 2 once completed by the first quarter of 2024 will help cut travel time to Sucat Road from CAVITEX (Coastal Road) and vice versa by 10 minutes, making daily commutes more efficient and seamless for our motorists."

The R-1 Interchange is a vital 1.9-kilometer segment (Segment 2) of the CAVITEX C5 Link project, a 7.7-kilometer, 2x3 lane expressway set to connect CAVITEX R1 to C5 Road in Taguig. Once CAVITEX C5 Link is fully completed, it is anticipated to serve over 50,000 vehicles per day, significantly reducing travel times to and from Makati and Taguig from Parañaque City, Las Piñas City, and Cavite Province, ultimately easing traffic congestion within Metro Manila.

CIC is a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) - the leading mobility infrastructure and solutions provider in the Philippines. It is the toll road development arm of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC). Aside from CAVITEX and CAVITEX C5 Link, MPTC also holds concession rights for the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the NLEX Connector Road, and the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) in Cebu.

Actual photo of girder launching activity for CAVITEX C5 Link last 2018 over SLEX. Similar activity will be done at CAVITEX Paranaque (near Toll Plaza) for CAVITEX C5 Link R1 Interchange construction. During the girder launching activity starting September 15 to 24, 2023, counterflow lane will be activated for all vehicle classes.

Mapúa students highlight experimental works in VanGarde filmfest

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Digital Film majors from the Mapúa University School of Media Studies hosted a competition and screening of 24 student projects during the VanGarde Experimental Film Festival, with the theme “Clairvoyance Meeting,” at the Mapúa Cardinal Cinema in Makati.

When the dust had settled, Pearl Barcos and Franz Bautista bagged the Best Experimental Film award for “Who Let the Dogs Out?” In the film, “choices are to be determined by blindly following the inducing mechanisms of money and power” in the eyes of a new civilization.

“It’s been a few days since this happened, but it still feels surreal that our short experimental film ‘Who Let the Dogs Out?’ won Best Film at the VanGarde Experimental Film Festival,” Bautista shared.

“Glitters,” a film following a fish that “seeks through the sea of plastic waste that is now blending in with marine life and finds itself trapped in its own habitat,” won first runner-up for director Darryl Villafuerte.

Villafuerte also recently took home second prize and Best Regional Entry for “Glitters” under the Experimental Film category and honorable mention for his documentary “Daíng” at the 35th Gawad CCP for Alternative Film and Video or Gawad Alternatibo. The Bulakenyo filmmaker previously won Best Picture, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound Design for “Glitters” at the 11th Sine Bulacan Film Festival.

The Mapúan filmmaker revealed that “Glitters” was inspired by the litter he saw in the waters of Pamarawan, Malolos, Bulacan while filming his documentary “Daíng,” which also won honorable mention at Sinepiyu. “As vast as our marine life flourishes, it gets destroyed and confined by unharmful-looking specks of colorful dust that are not from the ocean world,” he explained.

Kimi Crisostomo got the second runner-up prize for “Mga Manikang Pinipilipit,” which shows a man slowly exposing the inner workings of a Matryoshka Doll and in turn inflicting dangers upon himself.

The Special Jury Award went to “Strain” directed by Jericho Jeriel. In the film, “nightmare envelopes the great strain lurking within ourselves” in an era of great stress and anxiety.

Johan Gonzales received the Honorable Mention prize for “Ilusyon.” The film focuses on how “a higher power that once swore to serve us” has silenced people “in order to hide the greater truth.”

The other films shown during the festival, which was divided into four clusters, are “Ad Visum” by Elias Pernecita III, “Altschmerz” by Alexandra Dungca, “Black/White” by Jera Sombrero, “Eye Globe” by Angela Isabelle Colada, “Frayed” by Kaye Celine Abat, “Frosh Lie” by Angelo Oliveria and Elijah Enero, “Handa nang Hindi na” by Reizel Caballero and Reyana Velasquez, “He Does It” by Nolz Dela Cruz, “Hold (Fast)” by Hansel Jimenez and Vince Maliksi, “Imaginari” by Patrick Pregonero, “Pangamba” by Maria Juliana Villar, “Playing God” by Bianca Villanueva, “Reseta” by Jo Javier, “Tak-tak” by Christian Stephen Espiritu, “Take That Man” by Hassmir Kier Silos, “Tanganan ‘yan” by Yvon Kate Arcal, “The Blocks” by Via Kaye, “The Five Stages of Bro Split” by Ryem Panganiban, “The Reverie” by Rei Cordero, and “Too Much” by Justine Carl Villoso.

Interdisciplinary artist and advocacy filmmaker Richard Soriano Legaspi, director/editor Maria Estela Paiso, and photographer, filmmaker, and advertising director Arjanmar Rebeta served as jury.

VanGarde started as a virtual film festival in 2021, with the aim of showing experimental films from the DF124P Experimental Film Production class of Dr. David R. Corpuz, program chair of Mapúa Film under SMS. The Film Festival Management class of Kristine Camille Sulit organized the event this year.

FDCP pays tribute to Dolphy; to honor other iconic comedians in PFIM 2023

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is set to give recognition to some of the most iconic Filipino comedians in the country, in line with the celebration of the 3rd Philippine Film Industry Month this September with the theme, “Tuloy pa rin ang Tawanan.”

With their contributions not just to the local film industry but also to the country’s popular culture, the FDCP will bring into the forefront the significance of Philippine comedy over and beyond the entertainment value it serves to the public by honoring Filipino personalities whose names have become synonymous with what Pinoy comedy is.

Michael V.

In his more than three decades in the industry, Beethoven Bunagan, most popularly known as “Bitoy” or Michael V., has been widely regarded as one of the most prolific comedians in the country.

As one of the brains behind “Bubble Gang,” the longest-running comedy show in the Philippines, Bitoy, with his genius in creating characters such as “Yaya Angelina,” “Bonggang Bonggang Bongbong,” “Mr. Assimo,” and “Doña Yna Moran” among others, has skillfully pulled off and made his brand of comedy, mixed with satire and social commentary, a phenomenon in itself.

Eugene Domingo

Known in the industry as “Uge,” Eugene Domingo started out as a theater stalwart who has worked with theater icons and National Artists Tony Mabesa and Ishmael Bernal before she became the film and tv actress that she is now.

Among the films she starred in include her titular role in the “Kimmy Dora” franchise and in Marlon Rivera’s award-winning film “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” which was also the country’s official entry to the Academy Awards in 2011.

Uge has managed to bring the discipline and nuances shaped by theater to television and screen to create intelligent characters and to raise the level of comedy to more than just a popular art.

Ai-Ai Delas Alas

Martina Eileen Hernandez, also known as Ai-Ai Delas Alas, is widely regarded as the country’s Queen of Comedy. Her comedic talent has earned her some box office hits like the “Ang Tanging Ina” franchise directed by the late Wenn Deramas.

Aside from doing comedy shows and films, Ai-Ai Delas Alas also excels in dramatic roles which earned her accolades in numerous award-giving bodies here and abroad. Among the recognitions she received were the Best Actress Award from the Los Angeles Philippine International Film Festival in the USA for the drama titled “Area” and the PMPC Star Awards for TV Best Single Performance for her role in the drama-anthology series “Maalaala Mo Kaya.”

Ai-Ai’s more than three decades in showbiz has allowed her to craft the style of acting that can range from slapstick to dramatic, while personifying the faces of entertainment in her iconic roles on both the small and big screen.

Vice Ganda

From doing standup comedy at comedy bars to becoming one of the most sought-after comedians in the country, Jose Marie Viceral popularly known as “Vice Ganda,” has truly become an icon in her own rights.

Blockbuster hits, high-rating television shows, advertisements, and sold out concerts here and abroad are proof of the influence she holds in the industry. Vice Ganda has established a distinction in the industry never before achieved by a member of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Tito, Vic, and Joey

Continuously standing the test of time is the trio of Tito and Vic Sotto and Joey De Leon, collectively known as the TVJ. For more than five decades, TVJ has been able to transcend the changes brought by time and has since become everyone’s “dabarkads” through the longest-running television show in GMA Network.

TVJ is also able to embody authentic Filipino humor, proving their ability to build and establish rapport with the evolving audience in a highly-competitive market of the industry.

The late Comedy King, Dolphy

The undisputed and irreplaceable King of Comedy, the late Rodolfo “Dolphy” Quizon, is the highlight of this year’s PFIM as the industry pays tribute to his contributions to the entertainment industry.

Dolphy was the ultimate personification of the Filipino Everyman, representing the fusion of the two faces of entertainment—both tears and laughter. His brand of comedy was able to transcend beyond different generations and eras of entertainment that include bodabil, television, and films.

The late King of Comedy will be conferred with the FDCP’s Highest Honors for being the multimedia artist who represents the brightest of Filipino comedy.

The Awarding Ceremony will be held on September 29 at Acacia Hotel Manila during the Closing Ceremony of PFIM 2023. A grand tribute for the late King of Comedy will also happen as the tradition of humor and laughter continues and be carried by the younger generation of comedians.

Through the celebration of the PFIM 2023, the FDCP aims to celebrate Philippine Comedy—what it meant to us before and how important it is to us now.

For more updates on PFIM 2023, follow FDCP on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

Albay Multimedia Arts Convention Celebrates its 6th Edition: A Powerhouse Event for Creativity in South Luzon

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The Albay Multimedia Arts Convention will happen again on its 6th year on September 2-3 at Ayala Malls Legazpi, nurturing the grassroots creative community of Bicol.

This year's theme "Palette of Inclusion: Celebrating Diversity in the Creative Industry" does not only underscores the rich tapestry of artistic talent within the region, but also emphasizes the integral role that diversity plays in the broader creative landscape.

The Albay Multimedia Arts Convention, a pioneering event that has been nurturing the grassroots creative community of the Bicol Region since its inception in 2016, is proud to announce its 6th edition. Set to be the most monumental iteration yet, this year's convention will be held on September 2-3 at Ayala Malls Legazpi, a venue celebrated for its unwavering support of the creative community.

What began as a modest gathering with a few dozen attendees in 2016 has seen exponential growth year after year. From hundreds to thousands and now tens of thousands of attendees, the Albay Multimedia Arts Convention has established itself as the largest event celebrating creativity in South Luzon.

This year's theme, "Palette of Inclusion: Celebrating Diversity in the Creative Industry", not only underscores the rich tapestry of artistic talent within the region but also emphasizes the integral role that diversity plays in the broader creative landscape. As the convention continues to grow, so does its commitment to fostering an inclusive environment for all artists and creators.

One of the convention's primary missions is the continuous organization of community events aimed at honing the skills of aspiring artists. These events serve as a foundation, ensuring that emerging talent is well-equipped to be competitive in the ever-evolving creative industry, whether their passion lies in art, design, or any other creative discipline.

The significant contributions of the Bicol Region's creative community, particularly through events like the Albay Multimedia Arts Convention, have been pivotal in the recent adoption of the Philippine Creative Industry Development Act (RA 11904). This newly enacted law recognizes and promotes the immense potential of the creative sector within the Philippines, with the Bicol Region standing as a testament to the nation's artistic prowess.

None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of the event's sponsors and partner communities, all of whom have played an instrumental role in the convention's growth and success over the years.

As the Albay Multimedia Arts Convention looks forward to its 6th edition, it remains steadfast in its dedication to cultivating the next generation of creative professionals in the Philippines and beyond.

For more information about the Albay Multimedia Arts Convention 2023, including side events, programming, and sponsorship opportunities, please visit amac.ph or send an e-mail at support@amac.ph

The DGPI-FDCP Film Pitch is open to filmmakers and producers with upcoming film projects in need of financing and assistance in various stages of filmmaking—development, production, or post-production. Participants include filmmakers, producers, post-production companies, distributors, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.

A selection panel will choose 15 outstanding projects based on their synopsis, filmmaker profile, and project feasibility with a proposed budget, financial plan, and timetable. The finalists will then pitch their projects during the DGPI-FDCP Film Pitch at PFIM on September 29, with the aim of finding a business partner such as a co-producer or financier.

Using the speed-dating format, each filmmaker gets a maximum of seven (7) minutes to discuss the details and objectives of their project with their partner. Afterwards, the participants and panel members will select the best project pitch that will receive a special prize by the end of the event.

Prior to this event, a Film Pitch Workshop will take place at the Cinematheque Centre Manila on September 16. This workshop aims to guide the finalists in pitching their projects to potential financiers and develop their knowledge and competence in film financing.

In line with the celebration of PFIM and its goal of fostering the local film industry, the DGPI-FDCP Film Pitch aims to aid selected filmmakers in gaining knowledge about film financing and forming partnerships with co-producers. This film pitch is also an opportunity to discover new, innovative talents in the industry and start a creative discourse between filmmakers and industry stakeholders.

Award-winning filmmaker leads Benilde Film winners at Gawad Alternatibo

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A film graduate from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde bagged third prize in the 35th Gawad CCP Para sa Alternatibong Pelikula at Video, also known as Gawad Alternatibo, for his capstone project, two months after it was shown at the Diwa Filipino Film Festival of Seattle.

Chauncy Cruz, who recently earned his degree from DLS-CSB, led four other winners from the Benilde Film program with the victory of his thesis film “Sa Mga Mata ng Bata” (Through the Eyes of a Child) at Gawad Alternatibo, the longest-running independent film competition of its kind in Asia.

“Sa Mga Mata ng Bata” is about Philip (Kenshin Lagutan), a grade school student who looks up to his politician father Freddy (Adrian Castañares) very highly and sees him as a hero until he realizes who his father really is. Struggling with his class presentation about his father, the boy asks his father’s help. However, after a very enthusiastic performance, he receives negative feedback from his classmates that causes him to burst out with threats to them. Freddy comforts him and assures Philip that everything will be alright if they both come to class the next day to “apologize.”

The short film previously won the Silver Award, Award of Virtue, Silip@Lente Adamson University (SILAU) Choice Award, and Best Actor award for Lagutan at the Realifilm 2023 organized by SILAU.

Cruz, who directed, edited, and wrote the screenplay for the film under the supervision of Benilde Film program chair Jose Javier “Direk Joey” Reyes and thesis mentor and creative producer Seymour Sanchez, also received ample support from his co-executive producer Jhoana Rabino, director of photography and colorist John Lexter Laguinday, assistant director Corlisse Nicolas, production manager Angel Hildawa, production designer Alexa Abrianna Manalang, sound recordist Paul Van Guzman, musical scorer Gabriel Grindulo, and camera operator Gillian Navarro.

“It’s a very surreal feeling to get recognized by institutions like Gawad Alternatibo and it’s still not processing but at the same time it’s such an honor and it’s all thanks to the people in the film’s rolling credits because I just want to make a simple short thesis film but the people who supported, guided, and helped me, made it festival worthy,” Cruz shared.

Apart from Cruz, fellow Benildean filmmakers Vahn Leinard Pascual (“Alingasngas ng mga Kuliglig”), Giancarlo P. Barredo (“Tears Are Water Too”) Eira Krizette Camara (“Bakit Di Natutulog si Kael?”), and Grant “Augustine” Franzuela (“The Secret Band of Thebes”) got honorable mention awards in the short feature, experimental, animation, and documentary categories, respectively, of Gawad Alternatibo.

Three other Benilde Film homegrown talents, Nicole Yvonne Lee (“Arena”), Mike Cabarles (“Diak Kayat Magna Maisa”/I Don't Want to Walk Alone), and Ryan Miguel Capili (“Elehiya Para sa Mga Memorya”/An Elegy for the Memories), and faculty member Rianne Hill Soriano (“Atin 'to“) also competed as finalists.

Meanwhile, Benilde Animation graduate Arlo Jhan Bayot won second place and best regional entry in the animation category for his work “Dati” (Before). In the animated film, two brothers share a simple but sufficient life in a hidden paradise somewhere in the Philippines. Things change when an unexpected visitor brings a new-found attention to their island home. With their idyllic island now in the tourism spotlight, they are now forced to cope with the perils of uncontrolled urbanization.

Gawad Alternatibo, which was established in 1987, highlights the best of Filipino alternative storytelling and filmmaking every year. The competing films can still be seen at the Cinemata streaming platform.
