Cavite: Still a Selfie-Centric Sunday with the AAP-Petron Cavite Drive-Tour Caravan
Wazzup Pilipinas!
A day in Cavite is not enough for a determined and curious traveler so the AAP-Petron Cavite Drive-Tour Caravan made it into a two-day event so that we could explore more sights, and taste, of Cavite. After all, it's actually themed as a culinary and farm expedition which meant experiencing the healthier choices of food.
Still armed with my trusted mobile-photography-empowered smartphone that comes with its own color-coordinated selfie stick thanks to myPhone, we continue with day two of our selfie-centric drive-tour around Cavite.
Though half of the last part of the day was devoted to buying "pasalubong" at some of the popular stores, it was still part of immersing the participants to what Cavite offers. Bringing something home from a trip has always been a well-loved Filipino custom that many appreciates.
The day began with a hearty buffet breakfast at Days Hotel - our temporary home for the night dedicated for sleeping, or some would have spent it chatting overnight with new-found friends while drinking beer, and had to sleep on the wee hours of the morning, before waking up again for the 7:30 breakfast schedule and departure of 9:30 am.
The hotel was overlooking Taal Lake, and had a big pool at the back that's great for photo ops. Even though the hotel is among the first hotels here, it is well-maintained and comfy for stay. Too bad we never got the chance to dip in the pool as we had to leave early for our first destination.
In our case, our night was devoted to sleeping. We could have stayed awake late to post on our blog and social media accounts but the hotel had no Internet connection at their rooms. The Internet access was only available at the lobby so we had no choice but to sleep through the night. It was also an opportunity for more rest time so we could have an early breakfast and still have time to wander around the hotel for some photo ops and selfie shots.
Our first destination was at the Puzzle Mansion in Tagaytay, Cavite. It's actually my third time there so I still had the opportunity to meet the proud and friendly owner of the puzzles, Gina Gil Lacuna, who broke the Guinness record for the largest collection of jigsaw puzzles in the world. It was so sad that Miss Gina had to leave us already. But we are assured that her presence would remain immortalized via the existence of her puzzle collection.
Next on the list is the Balay Indang bed and breakfast retreat house which was formerly known as the Red Ginger Farm. The place is located in Indang, Cavite and "Balay" means "house" thus Balay Indang was conceived as the new name. It has a swimming pool as one of its attractions aside from the many spaces ideal for team-building and similar activities. It also has a restaurant where we had another festive lunch.
We then bought vegetables from the Indang Farmers Park, a new location just recently established sometime march of this year. It's owner invited us to go inside their facility to check out their mini farm composed of organic and herbal plants, as well as their other facilities like their dome-shaped events place and an original native hut where you could also spend the night. He even told us that if we are planning to get married, he is willing to give the place for free.
Last two destinations were the Good Sheperd, more popularly known for their ube jam, and Amira's Pasalubong Center widely remembered for their buko tarts. Many of the participants bought some from the said pasalubong places, as well as from the other places we've been to since day one. They say your tour is never complete is you don't bring home some souvenirs in the form of decors, shirts and other memorabilias, or some native dishes or specialties from the places you've been. It's one way of sealing the experience as totally complete.
Thank you to the organizers of the AAP-{etron Drive Tour Caravan. It was another great weekend spent with awesome people and places. We hope we could join again for the next run next year, and hopefully we could be a bigger media crowd so many would be able to share their stories too.
