My kids call me the pancake master at home because I am the only one who can cook pancakes with very little flaws. Perfect they would say, for I can quickly come up with a batch of great smelling buttered pancakes that's a little crispy at the edges and in almost perfect circle shapes that no one could resist. I would sometimes include some other ingredients like cheese, raisins and chocolate bits as a decorative and taste add-on. They would quickly eat them all up before you could say "Pass the maple syrup."
But I guess I need to step aside now because I've just seen a real artist when it comes to mastering the art of pancake cooking. Imagine pancakes in all shapes, sizes and color neatly mixed or arranged together to produce an artwork that is so appealing. They say it's bad to play with your food but you will surely make an exemption the moment you experience being in front of international all-day breakfast joint Slappy Cakes special pancake cooking grill.
Slappy Cakes recently introduced its Christmas offerings which are specially designed for kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy this season. Let us present to you the seasonal Gingerbread Batter that's perfect for the holiday season. All brown and gooey but once you've cooked it to a pancake and put on top some sweetened apple bits (apple compote), whipped cream, plus the basic syrups, you'll wanna do it all over again.
I did say I want to stay all day at the restaurant during a special bloggers event for us and our kids (I wasn't able to bring mine since it was a school day so I dragged a few blogger friends who had a car to comfortably bring me to the venue). It's quite challenging (and sort of intimidating) to see someone who was doing it like it was "child's play."
To try emulating the Slappy Cakes artist was an inner desire during that time but I refused to show how envious I was. I am really so competitive in everything that I do that you would see me working tirelessly trying to perfect something before the designated deadline. If she can do it, I know I can do it as well ....that is, if you let me practice for a few more minutes (or hours). This usually results to forgetting to eat or limiting the restroom break trying to hold on to that pee before I lose my thoughts on what to write.
I'm not used to using the "squirter" - that batter container that looks like the ones used for ketchup and mustard condiments. I had a hard time shaping the batter as it tries to go towards different directions once it touched the hot pancake griddle that our attendant said should be set at 180.
Too bad I wasn't able to finish eating their new menus namely the Cream of Broccoli, Grilled Three Cheese Sandwich, Wicked Cookies and Cream (I think I totally missed this one or they forgot to serve us this dessert), Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake (my friend had this)and Coffee Caramel Almond Fudge Milkshake (mine). My friends and I were too engrossed in trying to shape that perfect star that we prioritized the Christmas-themed pancake challenge instead of eating the other dishes that you'll never thought you can find at Slappy Cakes. To our amazement and surprise, we won 2nd place with our design. Now that's unbelievable! I should say more like a miracle!

So they don't just have a fun interactive DIY way of preparing pancakes, they also have great food and drinks too like the Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake that could become one of your favorite as soon as you've tried it.
We are all aware that we can't just eat pancakes all day long. This is why they offer other dishes in their menu that are all worth your every peso. However, I must confess that I was not really paying attention to the other food because I was focused on cooking our pancakes.

Slappy Cakes also served us some of their special dishes below that was so surprisingly great as well. Even though their signature food are pancakes, their regular meals are so filling and tasty.
I didn't have the appetite to munch on these culinary delicacies at the moment because the Christmas-themed pancake cooking challenge was our main objective. Our fault! We came in late coming from another event in Manila. The travel time going to SM Aura at Bonifacio Global City was a bit lengthy even though it was the middle of the day. Nowadays, every hour in Metro Manila is a traffic jam except when there's a Manny Pacquiao fight.

In the end, everyone of us got a special prize for all our efforts. Our team won a GC from Slappy Cakes so we get to go back to our pancake designing tasks. With GCs or none, I intend to go back and continue a personal challenge to myself to come up with an acceptable design fit for the season. I must come up with other designs aside from what was made by the artist during the bloggers event. So I have to think beyond the snowman, Christmas tree, Gingerbread house, stockings, Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer and Santa Claus. Hhhmmm ....should I repeat the Christmas lantern design to perfection? We'll see soon enough.
