6th Ani ng Dangal Awards Filipinos Excelling in the Arts

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) presented the National Artist for sculpture, Dr. Abdulmari Asia-Ima designed Sarimanok medal to fifty-nine (59) recipients last night, February 2 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila.

The 6th Ani ng Dangal or “Harvest of Honors” is an annual affair in the Philippines celebrated as a highlight of the Philippine Arts Festival - a tradition of recognizing Filipino excellence in the arts. It is a state recognition from by the NCCA under the Office of the President of the Republic of the Philippines given to natural-born Filipino artists and groups that have reaped top honors in international events covering the Seven (7) Art Disciplines namely Architecture and Allied Arts, Cinema, Dance, Dramatic Arts, Literary Arts, Music, Visual Arts, and Multi-Disciplinary Arts.

The 6th Ani ng Dangal featured the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga together with some of the recipients such as Director Brillantes Mendoza, Eugene Domingo, Alessandra De Rossi, Eddie Garcia, Jed Madela, The Halili-Cruz School of Ballet, Hail Mary the Queen Children’s Choir, Candice Adea,  Bayanihan, Philippine All Stars, Pupil, Joel Torre, and Nora Aunor.

It was a night where we witness Filipinos at his greatest. We saw a lot of stunning high-caliber performances that are definitely world class. There were a lot of familiar faces like Kuya Kim Atienza who accepted an award for his show Matanglawin. Issa Litton hosted the event.

With many popular mainstream artists present to receive their rightful recognition and other names that were first for me to hear - I never knew that the brightest performances can come from those that I don't normally see on television.

I believe Nora Aunor received the strongest claps and loudest cheers from the audience which led the organizers to allow her to make a short speech. So from a piece of paper, the Superstar read her prepared statement thanking the organizers of the event as well as her co-awardees.
