Wait Until Dark: A Mystery Psychological Suspense Thriller Set to Open on January 17

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Repertory Philippines proudly announces the start of its 2014 season with its first challenging production entitled WAIT UNTIL DARK --- a thriller written by Frederick Knott.

The play that the New York Post deemed “a first rate shocker,” WAIT UNTIL DARK is a suspense about a blind housewife named Suzy who finds herself terrorized by three strange men. The men search for a doll that has been filled with heroin and little does Suzy know, her husband has mistakenly transported the doll across the Canadian border and into their apartment. Suzy must rely on her instincts, with the help of a neighbor girl and the cover of darkness to outwit the dangerous strangers and protect her life.

WAIT UNTIL DARK premiered on Broadway in 1966 with Lee Remick portraying the role of Suzie, which earned her a Tony Award nomination for best actress in a play. After 374 performances, a film version was released in 1967 which starred Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin and Richard Crenna. Hepburn garnered Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for her portrayal in the film. The Bravo network ranked the film 10th on its list for 100 top scariest moments.

Generic Versus Branded Medicines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We all know that our health is precious, so we spend our money to the doctors to cure us in the times when we are ill. And we go to the nearest pharmacy to buy medicines that we believe to cure us from our illness. But do we wonder what separates the, so-called “generic” medicines and “branded” medicines? This article will be discussing these for the information of the people reading my article.

First of all, only registered pharmacists can dispense and sell medicines to exclude physicians from this practice under the Republic Act 5921 or the Pharmacy Law of the Philippines. Thus, it is illegal for any physician to sell their medicines in their clinic. And also the physician is giving us the so-called “prescriptions” which our medicine name is written. And it is presented to the pharmacist to ensure safe and correct medicine.

Unfortunately, this practice is being abused by some opportunistic health care professionals and pharmaceutical companies.

Palanca Awardee Joem Antonio To Conduct Amateur Playwriting Workshop - Get 10% Off!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Ready to bring your story to the stage? Learn how to write plays from five-time Palanca Award-winning writer, Dr. Joem Antonio, in Amateur Playwriting. This is a three-hour workshop that will be held on January 18, 2:00 PM at U-View, Fully Booked, Bonifacio High Street.

"Playwriting is an exciting and accessible performing arts scriptwriting discipline. Anyone can write a play, round up some friends as actors, and gather an audience to present original theatre at its most fundamental level. But to write great plays that enthrall audiences, you may want to explore playwriting in more detail. To be a successful playwright, you need to know where ideas for plays come from, the lingo writers speak, how to create fully dimensional characters, how to write dialogue, where to start your play, how to develop your storyline and reach the story’s climax, and how to bring your play to a satisfying conclusion." - Angelo Parra

Aspiring playwrights will learn the differences between theater and other media, constructing a story for the script, making a story feasible for stage performance, and formatting a script for directors and actors. By the end of the workshop, attendees will have a basic method to follow in writing theater plays.

Thank You 2013 and Welcome 2014

Gadgets: Neither a MUST nor a THREAT

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Before I state my opinions about the topic “Gadgets for our children: A Must or A Threat?” let me first define the word “gadget”. According to my very close friend, Wikipedia, A gadget is a small tool such as a machine that has a particular function. Even before, gadgets already existed but what we are to discuss are the modern gadgets that changed the world. No one wants to go back to the days of no smartphones, no tablets, no cameras, and no laptops. And above, we can see some of the gadgets we have in our home.

We don’t certainly need these gadgets in our lives. In fact, decades and centuries ago, people lived without gadgets, if they did, why can’t we? We can’t intake gadgets to our system like food and water to help us live. Gadgets only bring us convenience, efficiency and recreation. That is the reason why, we can’t say that, it is a MUST to have them.

But neither, can we say that it is a threat. Yes, because of these gadgets some students, like me, tend to be lazy. Computer games such as online games and social media websites like Facebook, Twitter, and Toutube divert the students' attention from school and lose their interest in their schoolworks. But, gadgets also bring a lot of advantages despite its disadvantages.

MC Hammer Gang: Motor Cycle Hammer Gang AKA Martilyo Gang?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Shot this sundown at the Roxas Blvd and Airport Rd intersection and I hope the following speculations are yet to be proven wrong. Crossing fingers.
First of all, keep in mind, IF these gentlemen ARE carpenters or workers, then why is the passenger wielding a hammer in such a manner to strike anything as planned which explains not having the handyman's tool in a bag? Are these men up to something which would later explain such?

Imagine this, at a stop along the boulevard, you're on your phone while at a stop, and your car window suddenly cracks or even crumbles...whatever happens next clearly would be anything but pleasant.

I hope that this photo would or could lead our authorities toward finding these gentlemen IF and ONLY IF, the news had any unfortunate incident involving a hammer. Sana naman hinde." - Moe Ordona

Government Implement Bicycle Lanes On Our Streets

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Biking is considered one of the more known recreational activities in our generation. Not to mention all its health benefits such as, all-around muscle strengthening, and calorie burning. Large bicycle races started in the 1890s and from then biking has become a well-known sport.

Filipino cyclists have urged the government and the MMDA to put up bike lanes, and not soon after, the MMDA supported the notion of the cyclists. Under Tolentino’s helm, MMDA promoted the use of bicycles among commuters by putting up several bike lanes in Manila, Makati, and Marikina, and Quezon City.

When God Meets Caesar: Mixing Religion and Politics

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Religion and Politics are well known as two opposing forces, each with different roots and backgrounds which makes them virtually incompatible. Religion focuses on moral laws that gives great emphasis to humanity, while Politics focuses entirely on civil rights and governance of a human community. In a way, they are closely related, but the two are just not meant to coexist with each other.

When we hear the word “Religion”, we think about the Catholic Church formed by Jesus Christ which worships God. Although, there are many other religions which are similar to Catholicism. But since the Philippines is mostly a Catholic country, the Catholic Church is the well-known foe of Philippine Politics.

The Catholic Church is mostly rooted on the Bible, a collection of texts which tells a story of how God rules over all things, and how He shows His unconditional love to mankind. His son, Jesus Christ, is portrayed as the ultimate epitome of humanity, performing miracles and preaching the word of God which aims to send the good news of Eternal Life following an earthly life of humanity.

The Philippines is Not Earthquake-Proof

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Philippines islands are situated on the western fringes of the Pacific Ring of Fire where earthquake is very frequent. Earthquake is the sudden movement of the ground. It is a very desructive calamity. It can destroy that strongest building just by shaking the ground. It could also be the most dangerous and deadly force of nature because it happens when we least expect it. No one could ever predict its forthcoming. Earthquakes is caused by Plate Tectonics, Intraplate Earthquakes, Volcanic Earthquakes, or Foreshocks and Aftershocks.

In the Philippines, there are around 20 earthquakes registered daily, though they are too weak to be felt. The last major earthquake was in Bohol on Tuesday morning, October 23, 2013. Its very heartbreaking to know that this earthquake caused the death toll to rise to almost hundred people. The tremor also injured hundreds and smashed one of the country’s oldest churches. Old churches are the treasure of the Philippines. These churches were made hundreds years ago and had been a part of our history. Even part of the Chocolate Hills which is the very famous tourist spot of Bohol collapsed.

Earthquakes can take a lot of life. It can strike anytime without even a single warning. You are lucky if you have survived this disaster but you will have to endure its aftermath. Houses were shattered, roads were damaged, food and water supply were cut down. All that was left is your faith in God. In this situation, we have to learn to be creative and resourceful. Be strong and don’t let your worries affect you. Someone will come and rescue you.

Year-End Awards of 2013 : The Wazzup Pilipinas Awards

Wazzup Pilipinas!

A year-end award is sacrosanct! It is regarded as extremely sacred and inviolable, and apparently too important and respected to be ignored, changed or even criticized. You should not question its validity. It is a right that it should exist and be put out before the end of the year to honor and pay tribute to the past glorious months that made up the entire year.

We are happy to give these special awards to those that we believe deserve well-deserved praises and special recognition.

2013 was a very meaningful year filled with lots of happenings and breakthroughs, and we are very much thrilled to have been a part of a remarkable year.

Christmas Parties: Overspending for the Season

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It’s that time of the year again where you’ll wake up with the scent of hot cocoa and newly-baked cupcakes coming from the kitchen, the sight of the pine tree covered with garlands, Christmas balls and a huge bright star at the top of the tree. The sound of the children outside singing Christmas carols and the presence of gifts and greeting cards as you feel the windy breeze coming from your window then you’ll know, it’s the season of Christmas again.

Christmas is a holiday held to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed cultural holiday celebrated generally on December 25 by millions of people around the world. It is mainly accepted all over the globe. There are many ways a country celebrate this season.

Here in Philippines, the celebration of Christmas varies depending on the status of the group of people. Nevertheless, simple or grand, what’s more important is that you can feel the essence of Christmas. As a matter of fact, we Filipinos tend to be more generous if it is Christmas. We give gifts, money and food to those people around us. Personally I think this is the true essence of Christmas because after all it is the season of giving.

10 Health Benefits of Sex You Need to Know

Wazzup Pilipinas!

No wonder the population in Philippines is predicted to become 100 million soon because, just like the rest of the world, Filipinos love sex not just because of the aroused feeling and sensation we get, but now we have learned that there are a lot of health benefits.

All health benefits posted below are true. However, there are reminders that you need to remember: do it only with your partner to prevent relationship problems and health issues, worst are AIDS and other similar diseases that are brought about and spread by having multiple partners.

Make love only with your wife or husband. Sometimes sex hurts when a partner perform sex with the another man or woman, and sometimes sex is the source of many kinds of violent behaviors..like rape, and it can also ruin family and marriages.

Halloween Parties: Disrespect for the Dead?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We all know that November 1, remembered as a holiday is known as All Saints Day or the Celebration of the Dead in Catholic Church. This is a traditional celebration for the deceased especially those people who are in our family, our close friends or even our idols. We recall them by visiting to their grave, give them flowers and light candles symbolizing our love for them will not end. Not only we visit the dead but also this is the time where we tend to have a reunion in a family or a friendship.

But nowadays, only few people are doing this tradional practice. Instead, they just dress in a horrific image and join to a party and having fun. Though it is an opportunity for some people because they have the chance to win prizes and see lot of dressed people, do this parties is a disrespectful act for the dead?

Lian Paz on the Cover of Playboy Philippines' Year-Ender Issue

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Lian Paz goes candid about being single, being a hopeless romantic, and her mad run to begin anew. Find out why a lot are mad about her in this smoldering Playboy Philippines year-ender issue."

An original EB Babe, mainstay of Prinsesa ng Buhay Ko, and ex-wife of Paolo Contis, Lian Paz now dates John Cabahug, a Cebuano basketball player and businessman. I guess most female celebrities who become separated from their husbands become more daring and adventurous enough to come out more aggressive in men's magazines.

She actually became worried when this cover failed to come out earlier since her sexy pictorials were meant for the November- December issue of the men's magazine.

Resolution Recognizing Andres Bonifacio as the First President of the Philippines

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It's has been long overdue! Wag ng magpatumpik tumpik pa! Give credit to whom credit is due. It's about time. This has been long delayed.

However, this may lead to a lot of confusion because historians would need to rewrite so many history books, including textbooks from elementary up to college reference books. However, if there are verified historical documents and other evidences then history should and must be corrected. We do not know yet what would be the impact or effect to the Filipino society yet "Dapat lang talagang itama." Worrying about the possible costs it will require to correct our history is stupid.

The Philippine Photo Plagiarist Award of 2013 Goes to BGC

Wazzup Pilipinas!
"A friend of mine contacted me earlier and told me that he saw a picture of mine posted on the website of Bonifacio Global City. I wasn't aware of any people from BGC that asked me if they could use my photos on their site. I checked their site and surprised to see that my "Tatakbo Ka Ba?" picture was used without my knowledge whatsoever. It is really undeniable that this is my shot that they have taken from my Flickr page that I posted last August 30, 2009. http://www.flickr.com/photos/nrmercado/3870203779/ Dear BGC, you cannot hire a photographer? Really?" - Neall Mercado
Just helping share this disappointing act of the BGC official website of using a photo without any form of credit to the real owner.
Breaking news: 'pwede na kayong magshoot sa BGC basta ipagamit niyo lang ng walang bayad sa amin'-- BGC Mgt
Welcome to the Home of Passionate Minds that's soon to face a copyright infringement case! BGC, do you have a lawyer already? Why yes you do. But i guess you will just put it down from your site, right? You're better called the Home of Lazy and Unoriginal Minds.
