Fil-Ams Representing Philippine Sports Teams

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipinos are fond of entering the world of sports. In fact, our country is beginning to predominate in every field in sports. I really salute all of those players representing our country in sports although not all of them are pure Filipino. Some of them are half Filipino and half American but we should be still thankful to them because they chose to represent our country after all.

According to Mr. Joaquin Henson of “The Philippine Star”, there are 11 Fil-Ams reinforcing the Philippine national baseball team now competing in the four-way World Baseball Classic qualifiers in New Taipei City and according to general manager Marty Eizmendi, they’re all committed to play their hearts out for flag and country.

The Team Azkals which represents the Philippines is one of the best and most popular teams in the field of Soccer. Most of the players belong to Team Azkals are actually Filipino-American like the popular Younghusband brothers.

Music and Movies Let Audience See Life in a Brighter Light

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Situated at the perfect venue within the newly opened Circuit Event Grounds in Makati City, the area was packed with visitors who came for the food, amusement park activities, and, most importantly, the live music and movies.

GraceNote kicked off the all-day affair by playing classic tunes and Paramore favorites followed by Moonstar 88 who got the crowd jumping with their original alternative songs. Itchyworms capped off the afternoon with not only the crowd favorites, but also a few jokes in between.

As the latter ended their set at dawn, all lights were turned off in preparation for the films Limitless and Love, Actually. Enjoying the many selections offered by the various concessionaires and food trucks, guests filled their bellies before rocking out to Callalily and headliner, Bamboo. The night ended with an hour long, crowd-pumping set by DJ Ace Ramos.

The Top Five Anime Characters for Me

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Japanese animation has been around since I was born - that's definitely a lot of years already! I've been aware of it for so long, especially when it comes to shows besides Naruto and Lupin, but it's been nearly half a decade since the first black-and-white Japanese TV animation hit the airwaves. Since then, Japan has no doubt taken animation into stardom! It has gone to more directions than any other popular culture, creating a broader range of classic characters.

In recognition, I thought of having a shot at coming up with a list of top 5 anime characters. It's hard to harvest just a few of my very favorite characters out of shows airing over decades, but I gave it a go anyhow, and here are the results.

My criteria for selection involved a little bit of everything – each character's lasting fame, the impact they had on the medium and their particular genre, the depth and quality of their realization on screen, and of course, a little bit of personal taste. Everyone out there has their own damned opinion, of course, so have a look at mine, and then feel free to share yours afterwards."

Marian Rivera : Ginebra's 2014 Calendar Girl

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Marian Rivera is Ginebra San Miguel's calendar girl for 2014. She has already posed for Ginebra way back 2009 but she was obviously more conservative back then and now more daring this year.

If you'll compare her 2009 shots with the new photos for 2014, it is very noticeable that Marian Rivera has more confidence to show off her assets.

“Yung 2009 ko na calendar, medyo sobrang conservative as in shorts ako doon at may balabal. Ngayon ay literal na two-piece ang suot ko,” Marian says proudly.

True enough, you'll see a big difference in both her clothing and the way she poses. No more hesitation to flaunt her much improved fitter and sexier body.

Heart Evangelista: Tanduay's Calendar Girl for 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"TV host and actress Heart Evangelista looks every bit a bombshell in the new calendar of a local liquor brand.First photos from Tanduay's 2014 calendar were unveiled Tuesday by lensman BJ Pascual, who photographed the 28-year-old TV star for the project." -ABS-CBN News

So does a bombshell goes kaboom?

It sure does! Well something goes kaboom! Especially when all alone in my room, and I see this photo of the 2014 calendar girl posted on my wall.

There's more than one version so that means a lot of kabooms going on until the next bombshell surfaces.

But in this day and age, there will surely be one coming in fast before you could even say "Kaboom-boom-boom!"

A Musical Melting Pot: The Bob Aves Jazz Group

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Behind a rusted gate along Roosevelt Avenue, jazz was cookin’ on a Sunday afternoon. A melting pot of musicians gathered in composer Bob Aves’ musical studio to rehearse for the Out of the Tradition Concert happening this December 11, at the PETA Theater Center.

“My music needs a new breed of jazz musicians”, say Bob Aves. His music, which he calls Philippine World Jazz, is a fusion of modern jazz and traditional gong culture.

Once the Fender-slingin’ lead for the fusion band “Destiny” in the 70’s, Aves has maintained a constant presence in the Philippine music scene as a composer, musical director and arranger. His credentials could read like history of four decades of the contemporary music scene having worked with musicians across diverse genres. Pop groups, rock bands, folk singers, movie soundtracks – name it, he’s done it.

Urbanears Humlan Clover : Hardware Review While Watching Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Wazzup Pilipinas!

There's this new TV series that has caught my attention because it seems to be a spin-off of the Avengers' stories. Yes! the Avengers - Captain America, Ironman, Thor, Hulk and the rest of the costumed superheroes of Marvel. But this focuses on the S.H.I.E.L.D. (an acronym for (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) people - those bunch of men with suits and dark shades led by Nick Fury.

But Nick Fury only does cameos here. The real star is  Phil Coulson, with actor Clark Gregg reprising the role. "Agent Phil Coulson puts together a small team of normal, non-superhuman S.H.I.E.L.D. agents to handle strange new cases with some of them involving the mysterious Project Centipede and their experiments with Extremis. Each case will test the team in cooperation and ingenuity as they try to work together in trying to save the world from threatening, supernatural events on Earth." - Wikipedia.

My problem is that I only have time to watch during night time - actually late at night when everyone is already sleeping. So I always had to lower the volume when I watch the video. This becomes a disappointment as I couldn't really "feel" the action if I can't hear the dialogues loud and clear.

Then came Urbanears Humlan Clover! When I heard it was coming, it was music to my ears!

One Fighting Championship : Crunch Time at One FC

Wazzup Pilipinas!

It’s literally a moment of truth for Filipino Team Lakay fighters Honorio Banario, Kevin Belingon and Eduard Folayang as they face tough foreign opponents tomorrow (Friday) in ONE Fighting Championship: Moment of Truth at the Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena in Pasay City.

Banario is out to prove that his defeat in the hands of Koji Oishi in the ONE FC event in May this year was a fluke as he attempts to regain the champion belt from the Japanese in the main event.

So do Belingon and Folayang, who also tasted defeats in the hands of their respective opponents then. This time, Belingon will battle dangerous undefeated Spaniard David Aranda Santacana while Folayang will clash with Dutch-Indonesian shooto veteran Vincent Latoel.

The photo above is Honorio Banario while down below is Kevin Belingon and Eduard Folayang.

Privilege Speeches To Accuse, Divert and Make Fun Of: As Inspired By Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Instead of presenting evidence to the public of his hypocritical protestations of innocence, Enrile once again chose to steer public attention to what he hopes will be a diversion: the lies and black propaganda hurled against me during the 1992 presidential campaign. This man, contrary to logic and common sense, hopes to evade criminal prosecution and public outrage over his plunder, by resurrecting campaign dirt against me which are over 21 years old! Dream on, old man, aka Tanda." - Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago

Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago accuses his co-Senator Juan Ponce Enrile of being the grandfather of all plunders. Enrile answers back. Miriam again takes the pedestal. Enrile submits himself to a media interview - and so the cycle goes on. Non-stop, and perhaps will just fade away when a new more controversial issue arises.

There was an accusation of diverting the issues, or steering it away from the real and original mess. However, it somehow benefits us because we get to know more about what really goes on in and out of the Senate. We are now aware that there are more stories to tell, and the revelation sjust keep on getting more interesting.

Apology Letter : How to Create An Acceptable One with Flying Colors

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Sometimes it's hard to apologize face to face. Following these easy steps you can learn how to write an effective apology letter.

1. Evaluate in your mind all the things you want to write before you write it.
2. Address the person appropriately. If you are writing to a friend, don't be overly formal. If addressing a figure of authority, don't be too casual. If you do either of these things, you may not be taken seriously.
3. Begin by saying what you've done wrong. You could also say how sorry you are. Continue to write apologetically. Don't go over the top, though. Then, say how bad you feel. This isn't necessarily the same as an apology. Don't over explain guilt. This is not about you, it's about the other person.
4. You'll probably be expected to say "It won't happen again," but, to be convincing, you also have to say why it won't happen again. Say why you're apologizing, and happened in the first place, then say how you can prevent those conditions from happening again." -WikiHow

So is that how you create an apology letter?

Tiger Flexiride Leaf Spring : Trying Your Luck with a Broken Leaf Spring? Bad Idea!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Imagine treading on a road that’s truly unforgiving: uneven, winding and sometimes slippery, and a steep, rocky mountainside where one wrong calculation will send you and your vehicle down a deep ravine full of boulders—and nothing else.

Worse, you’ve got one tire punctured by a sharp piece of rock and broken leaf springs. Since you’re high up in the mountains, it would take a long time before replacement parts get to you. You can decide to go on with your trip, but prepare to suffer the consequences. You chose to continue and luckily, you survived the trip.

But as they say, you can’t always rely on luck. Smart decision-making before embarking on a trip—dangerous or not—which means checking the vehicle thoroughly, particularly important parts like the leaf spring, will make your trip not only pleasurable and comfortable but most of all, safe.

When it comes to leaf springs, as advised by many trusted mechanics, it would be best to choose one that guarantees comfort, convenience, reliability and safety. And these are what you get—and more—when you choose the Tiger Flexiride leaf spring made by local leaf spring maker Roberts Automotive and Industrial Parts Manufacturing Corp. (Roberts AIPMC).

I Invoke My Right Against Self-Incrimination

Wazzup Pilipinas!

"Every celebrated witness in a Senate or House of Representatives “investigative” hearing, when faced with a difficult question to answer, utilizes a ploy often used in the organized crime hearings of the U.S.: “I invoke my right against self-incrimination.”

We heard all about the famous line used by witnesses appearing in the Senate in aid of legislation. Is it in search of the truth or in search of publicity?

If a witness feels the answer to the question (even if a denial) will lead into criminal charges, the right can be invoked.

The only way to change the rules is by constitutional amendment.

Anne Curtis Can Buy Everything : Memes To Make Your Day!

Wazzup Pilipinas!
HUMAN NATURE:

"I can buy you, your friends, and this club!"

When you're pretty, you can slap someone and say those words and get away with it, in stride. Some will even praise you for delivering that line "with character".

However, if you're not pretty and you used that 9 words to confront someone, you will end up doomed, shamed, and cyber bullied. People will never accept your apology. Worst, you might even end up committing suicide after you're back to your senses.

You're very very lucky because you are Anne Curtis." - Missy Penaverde

So it seems the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) led by Kim Henares should stop going after Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and instead look at the earnings of It's Showtime host Anne Curtis-Smith.

Japanese Manga and Anime

Manga

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Japanese culture has its own unique forms of comic books and animation. Manga (comic books) and anime (animation) are extremely popular in Japan. The earliest animation that is known to have been created in Japan was released in 1917.

This early cartoon featured a samurai testing a sword and being defeated. Japanese animation pioneers included Seitarō Kitayama, Jun'ichi Kouchi, and Shimokawa Oten. The modern style of anime was developed during the 1960s. One of the most influential artists is Osamu Tezuka. He followed the example set by Walt Disney's popular animated films and simplified the techniques they pioneered to save time and money. Today's anime is both generated by computers and drawn by hand.

All genres are represented, but science fiction is by far the most popular. Robots, post-apocalyptic metropolises, and motorcycles are all staples of the art form. Manga features similar content.

My Top Ten Japanese Rock Bands

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Do you listen to any J-rock bands? I figured since I'm really into Japanese music, I thought it would be interesting to show you guys how great these guys are by making a top ten list about them. This list shows the most professional modern rock bands that I've ever heard.

My main basis is in rock/visual kei. Visual kei gets a bad rap sometimes, but the thing is, visual kei doesn't describe the band at all. It just means visuals are important to them greatly. But the bands can, and will do, any type of music.

So if you don't like the visual side of it, cool, ignore it and just focus on the music, because there are some damn good bands in japan. One thing you will find out is that the bands in japan aren't afraid to try new styles and don't stick to just one, which makes them stay fresh in my eyes.

FFL: Friends For Life

Wazzup Pilipinas!

We all have friends, right? But not all of our friends will stay by our side all the times. Some of them may just use us for their own benefit and after they used you, they'll just leave you already. Yes, I have experienced that. But it's not my loss anyway. That's why I'm thankful that I have met true friends.

I have both Filipino and Malaysian friends. I met my Malaysian friends in an exchange program held last November 12-15, 2013. My new found friends are Anis and Seha. They are from Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Syed Putra. It is a science high school in Malaysia.

I have never thought that they are as vain as me and my friends are. We took pictures with each other. Even though we only had a short period of time to be with each other we still had fun! We really enjoyed each other's company.

What Really Happened With All The Sponsorships

Wazzzup Pilipinas!

There's a lot of bewildering issues spreading all over the blogging community about many controversial and "fearless" people, along with a happy bunch that keeps on heating up the flame of disgusts between the parties involved.

Everyone has their own thoughts to share though, as usual, many are commenting without even getting all sides of the story. Some claim they know everything there is to know when surprisingly they have not even communicated in any way with all the people concerned.

There is an ulterior motive behind all of these, and I am afraid it was exaggerated into staggering proportions brought about by pride.

Team Members Initiate a Wall of Hope for Super Typhoon Yolanda Survivors

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Team members at the Aboitiz Group’s Manila Headquarters have decided to send more than relief goods to survivors of super typhoon Yolanda. They have set up a “Wall of Hope” to encourage and inspire the survivors who are still trying to recover and start anew.

Beginning last November 13, everyone who goes to the cafeteria is greeted by a wall filled with colorful envelopes where they could insert a note of hope and encouragement for a typhoon survivor. Each time the wall is filled up with notes, the envelopes are gathered and sent to the command center in Cebu, where they are inserted inside relief packs that are distributed to the survivors. A looped video beside the wall also shows photos of the destruction in Northern Cebu and Leyte , as well as ways that team members can help- whether by donating in cash or in kind, or by volunteering.

“Pinadapa man tayo ng pagsubok, kakayanin pa rin natin tumayo,” reads one note. “Just want to tell you that whatever happens there are people who care for you,” reads another. Others who speak Bisaya or Waray, prefer to send their message of love and hope in their native dialect. One note from a team member who hails from Leyte, wrote the following in Bisaya: “To my fellow Leyteno, I know the feeling of pain you are experiencing right now. Let us lift each other from this and may God bless us”. Others have even shared their artistic ability, drawing inspiring sketches along with their message of hope.

Perwoll Brilliant White Liquid Detergent : Turn Your Whites Back to its Original Glory

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Thought for the day: "Daunting but doable."

This was what former Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson said after he accepted the offer of President Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino to become the person to lead the rehabilitation of the Visayan region damaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda.

"After a series of consultations and briefings from experts in the field of reconstruction and rehabilitation of disaster stricken areas over the weekend, I decided to accept the President's offer to be rehab czar,” former Senator Panfilo Lacson said.

The former Senator has a challenging task to rebuild the infrastructures of areas like Samar and Leyte back to its original glory. But I admired how he said that is a "daunting but doable" task.

I was washing my favorite shirt when I saw the news on TV. I realized that the former Senator has a lot in his hands while I was tediously trying to bring my white shirt back to its original brilliant white colors. Unlike his upcoming new job, it was easier for me to work on my already turned grayish white shirt because I have Perwoll Brilliant White liquid detergent to help me renew its whiteness.

DOTC to Expedite Bidding for Improved P65-B LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Contrary to recent reports of delays in the re-tender of the country’s largest railway Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) is expediting the bidding process for the improved P 65 Billion Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite Extension (LRT-1 Cavex) Project.

“The only delay was in the schedule of the NEDA Board meeting. Otherwise, we are still following the same 4- to 6-month timeline from obtaining approval to set the bid submission deadline,” said DOTC Spokesperson Michael Arthur Sagcal.

“In fact, we are expediting it. We will adopt the single-stage bidding process, and we will set the bid submission date in the earlier part of Q2 2014,” Sagcal added.

The single-stage bidding process means that interested groups will submit their qualification documents simultaneously with their technical and financial proposals, instead of having a separate pre-qualification phase. This will do away with the two-stage process, effectively cutting the entire period by around two (2) months.

Princess Diaries in Tacloban

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Former actress Princess Punzalan-Field is living a quiet, comfortable life as a nurse in California with husband Jason Field, a marketing professional. But when super typhoon Yolanda unleashed its fury in the Philippines, Princess became restless.

She revealed that she followed the news on the devastation caused by Yolanda and wished she could do something to help. Princess received a divine sign. She said that even before the super typhoon struck the Visayas, she was using a meme with a Biblical verse from The 700 Club Asia as screensaver in her laptop.

So, everytime she uses her computer to get updates regarding the typhoon, she automatically sees the meme and for some reason, her eyes would be drawn to the logo of The 700 Club Asia. “Parang may sinasabi si Lord sa akin tungkol doon. Laging nadi-direct ang mata ko sa logo ng The 700 Club Asia,” Princess said.

When you get hungry One pacific Place Serviced Residences has a restaurant on the first floor called The Strand Cafe to serve your meals all throughout the day. You can also order for room service so they can send your meals in your room. They have great iced tea though the glass was a bit small for me. They also have brewed coffee but my wife preferred water instead.

We had a pasta diner buffet where we got to try three types of pasta noodles, plus several choices of specialty sauces along with some garlic breads and buns.

Breakfast was heavier as they offered soup and congee, breads and jams, cheeses and hams, salads, fried and steamed rice, tocino, longanissa, tuna, beef, fruits, cereals, and omelltee that you can have a restaurant staff cook with your choice of ingredients. They have orange and mango juices but were not the freshly squeezed kind. They were probably either the powder or liquid form.

Driven Pinoy Dream Property and Lifestyle Event 2013 : Hardworking Pinoys Can Finally Own Their Dream Home by 2014

Wazzup Pilipinas!

More and more Filipinos today are dreaming of owning their dream home, driving their dream car or launching a new business. But it's also evident how some Filipinos remain hesitant and anxious on making these seemingly elusive dreams happen. “We really have to educate most Filipinos when it comes to financial literacy. Changing their mind-set cannot be done overnight, but it can be done,” says Lubar Delos Reyes, president of DRIVEN Marketing Group, one of the fastest growing real estate marketing network in the country.

Common challenges are the notions that purchasing a home entails a long and difficult process and that it is cash intensive. But with the efforts of the government and banks to speed up the process of loan application and documentation, more and more Filipinos are beginning to realize that it’s easy to take the leap. “Around 85% of our buyers are first-time homebuyers and they are quite surprised with how fast and easy it’s nowadays to own their dream house,” adds Delos Reyes.

This coming December 27, 28 and 29 at SMX Convention Center Hall 3, DRIVEN Marketing Group Inc., in partnership with BPI, is set to hold the first and most exclusive property and lifestyle event in the country showcasing the best deals and offers available for homebuyers and investors. With a campaign entitled “DRIVEN Pinoy Dream Property and Lifestyle Event 2013: Dream House. Dream Car. Dream Business.”, this first of its kind trade show format will allow attendees to interact and learn from the best speakers and institutions in the field of home buying, loan and personal finance.

One Pacific Place Residences Overnight Stay : Hashtag StaycationForTwo (Part 1)

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Shhhhh!!! Please do not disturb!

Hashtag StaycationForTwo is a well-deserved break from the hectic and busy life in the Metro. My wife and I spent a weekend Staycation at One Pacific Place Serviced Residences located in the center of Makati city's business district.

It was a well-deserved break from all the hassles and stress brought by our everyday obligations at home and at work.

Staycations are becoming popular nowadays where you just stay at a hotel and indulge on the facilities of the place like hang out and swim at the pool area located at the 6th floor (opens as early as 7 am until 7 pm), or workout at their Gym (also on the same floor and open as early as 6 am and closes at 8 pm), or just lie all day in bed in your room with a loved one wrapped in your arms while watching your favorite show on TV.

Philips Team Up with Filipinos with Innovations That Matter to You

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Innovations that matter to You “ Program teams up with Filipinos to help the communities in the Visayan region to get back in their own feet”.

Long term solutions were discussed last November 27, 2013 by the organizers led by Philips Philippines with the members of the media, including bloggers or the "new media", specifically on the basic needs and principles in building shelters such as home and infrastructures because of the recent calamity brought by climate change in our country.

Over the past month, the Philippines was hit by Super Typhoon Yolanda (International name Haiyan). From the destruction of basic infrastructures now pegged at 13.1 billion, health concerns, and access to healthcare, typhoon Yolanda has had an immense impact on 9.9 million people living in the Visayan Region.
The question is What are your ideas to help improve the quality of life of Filipinos through meaningful innovation?

Anime or Manga : Love Them Both!

Wazzup Pilipinas!

First of all, what do you like? Anime or manga?

For me, I love them both! It’s like I just can’t get enough of watching anime and reading manga, it’s my hobby. Even though I’ve already watched and read them I don’t get tired of them. It’s because I’m addicted to anime and manga.

What is anime? What is manga?

Animes are Japanese hand-drawn or computer animations while mangas are Japanese comics. From what I had watched and read, there is little difference between the two. For example, in manga when they turn it into anime sometimes it’s incomplete and it has different significant events. I have already watched many anime because since I was young it was the only thing I ever watched, but sometimes I also watch cartoons, but more on anime.

Japanese Ingenuity: Weird or Brilliant?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Japan is known to be one of the most technologically-advanced countries in the world. From cars we see on the roads to electrical appliances we have at home, inventions made and distributed from Japan have really gotten around the world and has helped make our lives and work easier.

We can now say that Japan is home to a lot of wonderful inventors, which in turn means that Japan also had a lot of inventions to offer! But some of these inventions are... A little off the norm.

Inventions that are classified as "really eccentric but practical" have a term in Japanese. They're called as "chindogu" (chin-doe-gu).
