Mortals! Bow down before the mighty God Hades! For your souls will be his property when your day has come... Nah just kidding.
Wazzup everybody! I created this article to give some information about the scary, hideous, "unseen one", harsh, yet soft-hearted God of the underworld, Hades.
So, the God Hades (also known as Pluto in Roman) was the ancient Greek God of the underworld, which means he rules among the souls of the dead. Hades was the Oldest among the three sons of Cronus. His mother was Rhea, and his brothers and sisters were Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia, and Hera. Among the gods, Hades got the power to rule over the Underworld, and the souls of the dead. Because Hades lives in the Underworld, he was called the "unseen" one because only those souls of the dead ones can see him.
During the time he and his two brothers had a chance to get a weapon, they made a draw lots. Then Zeus got the powerful Lightning Bolt, Poseidon got the mighty Trident, and Hades got the mystical Helm of Darkness. The Helm gives the power to make Gods invisible when worn. His weapon made him harder to see, and harder to find.
Hades had a wife named Persephone, who was the beautiful daughter of his sister Demeter. Hades didn't got Persephone so easily, so he abducted her and made her his queen. They say that that is the reason why they have seasons. Summer and Spring represents happiness of Demeter together with her daughter, and then Fall and Winter represents the sadness of Demeter when she is not with her son.
Another creature aside from Hades and Persephone lives together with them in the Underworld, it is their "pet" called the Cerberus. It is a three-headed "hellhound" that guards the gates of the Underworld and those who crossed the river of Styx from escaping. This dog is said to be very scary yet very loyal to his master. Here is an image I took from Google showing the Cerberus guarding to gate.
So, there are still a lot of information about Hades, these are just what I basically know about him. I found him awesome, and for me he also looks cool. I admire the stories about him, especially the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, where his soft-heartedness was shown. A lot of people think that Hades is an antagonist in the Greek Mythology but truly, he is a great good God, and that's what l liked about him.
Below is a picture of Mr. Ian Neil Gutierrez playing the role of Hades in a program in our school called The Parade of the Gods and Goddesses. I found his costume cool and amazing!
Thank you for reading my article about Hades, I hope you like it. I also encourage you to study Greek Mythology because it is a very interesting topic and it is so cool.
Till' the next time :)

Your article is very informative. It's so surprising to know the true side of Hades. :)
ReplyDeleteHades is one of the gods I admired most. For his bravery to accept what his brother gave. For me he is the opposite of Zeus for Zeus protect the living and Hades protect and secure the dead. Thank for sharing your article :)
