Ateneo Electronics and Computer Engineering Society (AECES)'s Spark Summit: Reigniting Passions Through Technology and Innovation

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Ateneo Electronics and Computer Engineering Society (AECES) is the sole and premier organization for engineering that is home to many science and engineering majors of the Ateneo de Manila University. Throughout the years, AECES has been a family of individuals who share a passion for science and engineering. It envisions itself as a community of innovators whose primary goal is to integrate the field of innovation and technology with excellence, purpose, and service.

Last year, the AECES set off a new flagship project called "Spark Summit: Hobbyist Fair 2017" as an avenue for hobbyists to showcase their passions to the Loyola Schools (LS) community. This year, AECES makes a comeback with their revamped and remastered flagship project appropriately entitled "Spark Summit: Tech Fair 2018", giving it more of an innovation and technology vibe that AECES wants the LS community to experience and get exposed to. AECES also wants to promote awareness on the wonders of science and engineering and the call for multi-disciplinary collaboration.

Spark Summit is a three-day event that invites Ateneo students to showcase their science projects and innovation skills, to share their knowledge and design process, and to inspire the community to pursue innovation and careers in developing these kinds of technology.

Spark Summit provides an avenue for tech enthusiasts to demonstrate their innovation and technology to the entire LS community. Hoping to help inspire members of the Atenean community through showcasing engineering-related inventions and revealing the possibilities or creativity that can be found in inventing, Spark Summit is looking to achieve such an aspiring and inspiring objective by holding a competition during this three-day event. This is done by gathering participants to form teams who then present their own innovative ideas first to the organizers, and then to the world. Winners are awarded, and everyone is then recognized for their contributions to advancements of the scientific community in the Ateneo. Also found throughout the entirety of the fair, interactive booths may be visited, while talks by experts of different fields may attended. These are to help expose the LS community to the potential and current state of technology in the Philippines.

We invite all to watch sparks get set and currents get directed, and to realize that the potential of science, engineering, innovation, and technolgy in the Philippines is just starting to get amplified. So, what are you waiting for? Visit Spark Summit: Tech Fair 2018 and explore the creativity of inventing, happening on November 14-16, 2018 at Ateneo de Manila University’s Red Brick Road.
For any concerns or inquiries, send us an email at aeces.sparksummit@gmail.com or visit our official Facebook page: Ateneo Electronics and Computer Engineering Society.

Brandon Vera Faces Off with Mauro Cerilli at One: Conquest of Champions Open Workout in Manila

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), recently held the official ONE: CONQUEST OF CHAMPIONS Face-off and Open Workout at the Victoria Sports Tower in Manila. In attendance was reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera of the Philippines, as well as his opponent Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli of Italy. Co-main event participants Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines and Amir Khan of Singapore also faced off.

Ticket information for ONE: CONQUEST OF CHAMPIONS is available at www.onefc.com.
For Official Photos of the Face-Off and Open Workout, click this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CgRccPvlMSxzNPcBpqYLYRm7iX3mJxrQ?usp=sharing

Brandon Vera, ONE Heavyweight World Champion, stated:

“Thank you everyone for coming out here, it is an honor to be your champion, Philippines. I’ve been away for a while, almost two years, but don’t think for a second that I haven’t been training and keeping sharp. I’m stronger, faster, smarter, and better now than ever before. My team has made sure that I will be at my best by the time I step back into the ONE Cage. This is home for me. I really missed this and I am excited to perform in front of you all next Friday night. The belt is going to stay in the Philippines.”

Mauro Cerilli, ONE Athlete, stated:

“I am very honored to be here and to challenge your champion. Joining ONE Championship, I know the competition is fierce and I will be faced with the best in the world. Brandon [Vera] is a great champion, but he’s lost his edge. I am here to claim the ONE Heavyweight World Championship. When I step into the cage on 23 November, I will be in the best shape of my career and I’m looking to score the upset. Thank you for having me, Manila. It is an honor to be here.”

Eduard Folayang, ONE Athlete, stated:

“I am so happy for the opportunity to once again be fighting for the world title. As always, I feel motivated and encouraged to do my best. I want to prove to the world that I am not done yet in this sport, and that I can still be world champion. Losing the title for the first time, it was a very painful feeling. But in defeat, I have discovered my weaknesses and made efforts to improve certain parts of my game. Now I am ready to showcase my championship form once again. Amir [Khan] is a great young martial artist. He has shown tremendous growth since his very first ONE Championship bout. I cannot underestimate him because he is younger than I am. This bout is special because it’s taking place in front of my hometown crowd in Manila. It also represents a chance for me to redeem myself, because this is the same place I lost the title one year ago. I have worked very hard since then and now the opportunity was once again given to me.”

Amir Khan, ONE Athlete, stated:

“It has been a long journey for me. I've worked very hard for this. Ever since I started this journey, I have had one goal in mind and that's to be champion. Everything I have done so far has been to work towards achieving that dream. I have 13 bouts in ONE Championship and 11 of those are wins. I've won my last two in exciting fashion. It's only right that I am now challenging for the World Title. I'll be facing former champion Eduard Folayang, and I'm going to his hometown, so I know it's going to be a tough challenge. He has the home crowd advantage, but I am confident of victory. I hope to be able to bring this belt back to Singapore. I foresee that I'll be the Joseph Schooling of mixed martial arts.”

Presidential Proclamation Declares Centennial Year of PH Cinema with FDCP as Lead Agency

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Film Development Council of the Philippines has been designated as the lead agency for the celebration of the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema from September 12, 2019 to September 11, 2020.

Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 622 Series of 2018, the Centennial Year of Philippine Cinema was declared in honor of Dalagang Bukid by Jose Nepomuceno, considered the first Filipino-produced and directed feature film. It was released in Sept 12, 1919. "The One Hundred Years of Philippine Cinema is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration in honor of the journey of this incredible art form and cultural marker. Film is a part of every Filipino as one of the most accessible and affective mediums that tell our stories, struggles, victories, and our growth as a people. We are grateful to the Office of the President for recognizing the importance of this milestone," said FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño. "We look forward to commemorating Sandaan, as we call this celebration, not just with our fellow government agencies, but with all sectors of society. We encourage each and every Filipino to join us continue the legacy of our Cinema and look forward to the next hundred years." she added.

Starting this year, the Agency has organized the Sandaan National Organizing Committee with key government agencies and institutions such as the National Commission on Culture and the Arts, Cultural Center of the Philippines, MTRCB, Optical Media Board, Film Academy of the Philippines, UP Film Institute, De La Salle College of Saint Benilde and local and regional film festivals in the country. The activities for the year for Sandaan will be in line with themes of knowledge production, education, exhibition and international events.

In anticipation of the celebration and through the efforts of FDCP, the One Hundred Years of Philippine Cinema has already been integrated in the Agency's activities and events through the conduct of the Sandaan Conferences, a series of lectures and talks featured in its partnerships with local and regional film festivals in the country. In 2017, the Agency also partnered with the UP Film Institute for Sandaan: Philippine Cinema Centennial Conference. It has also been recognized by international film festivals and markets by declaring the Philippines as the Country of Focus in the Osaka Asian Film Festival, Focus on Asia Fukuoka International Film Festival in Japan, Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy, Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, Exground Film Festival in Wiesbaden, Germany, and Singapore Media Festival in Singapore. Featured in these are retrospectives of films, exhibits and educational talks that highlight the journey of Philippine Cinema to where it is today.

As 2019 approaches, the agency and the National Organizing Committee will enjoin various sectors to ensure the nationwide celebration of the centennial event.

5 Tips to Turn Your Online Leads Into Sales

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Truth be told, online leads does not immediately convert to sales. It takes time, effort and patience for leads to materialize and turn into actual deals. Sellers often get hundreds of queries online but only one or two leads will prosper. In reality, agents and sellers also invest in potential clients by giving them attention, nurturing their relationship and developing trust. Nowadays, clients are looking for someone who will go the extra mile in understanding their needs and providing them with options that meet their expectations.
While there is no cookie-cutter approach to converting leads to sales, there are some tricks of the trade to help you out.

1. Time is of the essence. Whenever you receive online leads, your goal should always be to respond within five minutes. Prospective clients normally contact multiple agents at the same time and the first one to respond gets an edge over the others. A study done by MIT’s Dr. James Oldroyd for UK-based lead tracking software company showed that the odds of contacting a lead if he is called within five minutes are 100 times higher compared to another contacted in 30 minutes. It doesn’t even have to be an answer right away. You just have to respond in some way and acknowledge that you’ve received their query and get back to them at the soonest possible time.

2. Be a resource person. Oftentimes, people reaching out to agents online are those with minimal experience in real estate. They have no connections with agents and are basically starting from scratch. They go online to research, talk to as many agents as possible and compare multiple offers. What will set you apart is when you offer valuable insights and expert advice that they couldn’t find anywhere else. Prospective clients will appreciate inputs like, “this property developer has been in the real estate business for X years now and I can say that they deliver quality work based on the properties I’ve seen” or “This condominium developer has lower association fees compared to X developer with the same amenities.”

3. Make sure to follow-up with your online leads. Follow-ups are as important as responding immediately to leads. Prospective clients want to deal with agents who show concern and interest to them. It’s important to make your presence felt by being there every step of the way. Build trust by responding to their questions immediately. You have to be persistent and ask questions that matter to clients—what are their preferred areas? Do they have children? What kind of amenities are they looking for? What are the establishments that should be within close proximity to their property? These types of questions show that you want to help them find a home and you’re not just after the sales.

4. Avoid hard-selling. Persistence doesn’t mean you become overbearing that potential clients treat you as a nuisance. For newbie agents, it’s easy to fall into the trap of hard-selling especially when you’re excited to close your first deal. In sales, it’s important to practice self-restraint and allow clients to have a little breathing room. Follow-ups are okay but if you call five times a day, chances are you’ll have to deal with a pissed client. Also, avoid putting pressure on clients with lines like, “There are only two units left in that condominium so you have to put a reservation now” or “Two other clients are also looking at that property and they may put an offer ahead of you so act fast.”

5. Take advantage of Lamudi’s Lead Management Tool. In today’s rapid technological advancement, it’s important to have tools that will help to achieve your desired results from online leads. Lamudi’s Lead Management Tool is designed to help property sellers manage their listings, follow up leads and generate new business efficiently. Its user-friendly dashboard and integrations allow sellers to track their leads and optimize their sales pipeline. Some of its features include Lead Tagging which allows sellers to view prospective buyers who visited their listings and expressed interest, Messaging which connects the seller and buyer via chat, SMS and calls, and Lead Profiling which keeps details specific to each lead such as preferred location, budget range and property size.
