Rabin Catalan Dedicates Upcoming Bout to Late Teammate

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Filipino strawweight competitor Rabin “The Rock” Catalan will pay his respects to late brother-in-arms Rocky Batolbatol when he steps into the ONE Championship cage.

The 31-year-old Iloilo City native is slated to lock horns with Thai stalwart Kritsada “Dream Man” Kongsrichai on the undercard of ONE: WARRIORS OF THE WORLD, which takes place at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, 9 December.

Catalan dedicates his upcoming bout against Kongsrichai to his deceased teammate and fellow ONE Championship athlete, who passed away last July 23 due to a tragic accident in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines.

Batolbatol became part of the growing ONE Championship family in 2014, competing in three exciting bouts under Asia's largest global sports media property.

Known by the moniker “The Outlaw” due to his fan-friendly style inside the cage, he is a former professional boxer who has transitioned smoothly into the sport of mixed martial arts, owning a win-loss record of 5-3 with two spectacular knockout wins and one impressive submission victory.

Batolbatol was last seen inside the ONE Championship cage in May 2016 when he faced Singaporean prospect Christian Lee.

“Rocky is like a brother to me. He was always there for me. There was a point in my life that I was down and out. I had no inspiration to continue my career, but he was there to uplift my spirit,” Catalan shared. “He was a kind of guy who would not give up on you no matter.”

Catalan and Batolbatol were teammates at Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts, a training facility that is headquartered in Cagayan De Oro City and houses the best and the brightest talents in the Philippine’s southernmost major island of Mindanao.

Ever since joining ONE Championship in 2016, Batolbatol never missed a bout of Catalan as he always sat on the coach’s stool and extended his guidance to his comrade whether in victory or defeat.

“I miss him a lot. It is difficult because I won’t have him in my corner in my upcoming fight. We all have to move forward. I am dedicating this bout to him. I will try to make him proud by getting the victory,” Catalan stated.

Catalan has his hands full at ONE: WARRIORS OF THE WORLD as he squares off with Kongsrichai in a three-round strawweight clash.

Touted as one of the most promising young athletes in ONE Championship today, Kongsrichai made his promotional debut in the organization’s first-ever show in Bangkok in 2016, stopping opponent Kev Hemmorlor via first-round technical knockout.

In his most recent outing, Kongsrichai made quick work of Indonesia’s Adrian Matheis, finishing his opponent by way of first-round technical knockout.

Although a tough test awaits him, Catalan remains unperturbed with the fact that the most challenging bout in his eight-year professional career is ahead of him.

“I don’t see it as a problem. To me, this is a challenge that can bring out the best in me,” he stated.

“The core of martial arts is to unleash a human’s true potential. I want to know my potential in this sport. That’s why I am happy to be in this fight against a talented fighter like him,” Catalan added.

Catalan, who has an extensive background in Muay Thai and Wushu, stressed that he had a solid preparation for his cage meeting with Kongsrichai, revealing that he worked on his ground game with the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners at Mindanao Ultimate Mixed Martial Arts.

“My preparation for this fight has been absolutely awesome. I got help from my friends and teammates. They helped me to level up my striking. For this fight, I did extra work on my grappling. This will probably be the best camp that I’ve ever had in my career,” he divulged.

His back may be against the wall on Friday, but Catalan assured that his string of setbacks gives him an extra drive to get the win at ONE: WARRIORS OF THE WORLD.

“I really want this win because I lost my debut in ONE Championship, and then I lost my second fight. This is a chance to redeem myself. I know this fight will not be a walk in the park, but I am determined to shock the world on December 9,” he ended.

Lenovo Commissioned Research Unveils Five Key Technology Trends Enabling Future Workspace

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“This is truly an exciting time for fans of technological progress. In fact, we believe that we are at an inflection point, where a demographic shift and accessible technology will drive rapid changes in how we will work over the next few years. However, business leaders should not take this change for granted. In order to survive and thrive in this new era, organizations must create the foundations for a smart workspace today. This means investing in intelligent transformation that enables personalized computing technologies and innovations such as PCaaS, artificial intelligence, multi-device synergy and AR. This is crucial to keep up with end users’ today and future needs.” - Michael Ngan, Lenovo Philippines Country General Manager

Lenovo, the world’s leading PC manufacturer, unveils fundamental shifts that will drive technology trends in 2018 and beyond. In the IDC InfoBrief, Enabling the Future Workspace – Agile, Intelligent and Engaging, commissioned by Lenovo, it is predicted that the changing workforce demographics and rapid adoption of new technologies will lead to fundamental changes in the workspace and how we work.

The IDC InfoBrief finds that Asia’s millennials, who will make up more than 50 percent of the workforce by 2020, will drive transformation in workspaces across Asia Pacific, excluding Japan (APeJ). Millennials’ flair for new technologies combined with enterprises’ quest for competitive advantage will fuel adoption of high potential innovation accelerators, such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), cognitive/artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics, giving rise to new behaviors and practices particularly around human-device interfaces, collaboration, talent practices, visualization, and data-driven insights.

The IDC InfoBrief also predicts that APeJ will represent the largest market for innovation accelerators, forecast to reach more than US$600 billion by 2020. These changes will result in new norms across Asia Pacific, from our approach to buying devices and how we collaborate, to how we obtain and interact with data.

The five key technology trends identified in the IDC InfoBrief are:

1. By 2019, 20 percent of Asia 1000 companies will have a device as a service (DaaS) agreement in place, and one percent will have completely transitioned to DaaS.

2. By 2019, two-thirds of Windows 10 devices (PCs and tablets) will be managed via unified endpoint management (UEM) platforms and one enterprise in every three will have consolidated its desktop and mobile management IT teams into a single operations unit.

3. By 2020, 40 percent of digital transformation initiatives will be supported by cognitive/AI capabilities, providing critical on-time insights for new operating and monetization models.

4. By 2020, Asia 1000 firms will use open innovation to allocate expertise to 15 percent of new projects, aiming to increase their new product introduction success rates by over 50 percent.

5. By 2020, over 20 percent of information workers will leverage AR at the desktop or on mobile to manipulate digital information, interact with real-world objects, and to collaborate with colleagues.

A smarter, intelligent workspace is taking shape

According to IDC, to remain competitive in 2018 and beyond, companies in the region must take a holistic approach to create a smart office across multi facets – physical space, work culture and technologies. Enterprises also need to be aware of the potential challenges of change management; workspace transformation requires concerted efforts across multiple levers to lead in the digital economy. IDC recommends transformation to cut across five areas, including:

1. Operating model transformation
2. Information transformation
3. Leadership transformation
4. Omni-experience transformation
5. Worksource transformation

Lenovo recommends taking a user-centric approach to providing a truly engaging digital experience

According to Lenovo, to provide a truly engaging digital experience in the workspace, taking a user-centric approach to transformation is key. It is essential for enterprises to look past the idea of traditional PC to create a mobile, smart and personalized experience for its employees. This can be done through providing a variety of form factors and design choices to meet modern workspace demands, offering next-generation devices, ensuring device mobility and at the same time maintaining enterprise-grade reliability. On the physical workspace front, transformation can be accelerated with bimodal IT and agile practices, solutions and commercial models tailored for different segments and markets as well as solutions that allows both devices and management capabilities.

In a world enabled by intelligence, IT is not just “Information Technology” but “Intelligent Transformation” driven by big data, cloud and intelligence. A truly intelligent environment is created when every device is smart; where the cloud enables devices such as PCs, tablets, smartphones, smart speakers, smart TV and AR/VR to provide content, services, and the best user experience to make life easier and better, and work more productive and efficient.

Lenovo is focusing its efforts on innovation and is investing approximately US$1.4 billion in R&D globally. It aims to help customers transform and lead this new world of intelligent transformation.

DOE Launches Energy Consciousness Month to Further Empower Consumers

Wazzup Pilipinas!

“The future of energy-efficient and environment-friendly motoring is right here, right now.” This was the atmosphere during the kick off of the 2017 National Energy Consciousness Month (NECM) as Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi on Monday (4 December) unveiled an electric vehicle charging station, four electric vehicles and four hybrid plug-in electric vehicles at the Department of Energy (DOE) headquarters in Taguig City.

Sec. Cusi and the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines, Koji Haneda, test-drove a hybrid plug-in electric vehicle and presented to the public the electric vehicle charging station during the opening ceremony of the NECM 2017.

The DOE Chief said that the Japanese government donated the hybrid vehicles and electric cars to promote the use of efficient and environment-friendly transportation alternatives.

The charging station can charge two vehicles at a time. It can do fast charging for 30 minutes and normal charging from two to four hours. Charging can also be done at home using a special plug supplied by the vehicle's manufacturers.

The NECM 2017 was opened by its Chair, DOE Usec. Raul B. Aguilos, who said: “We themed the NECM2017 with the powerful message of inclusivity, bringing in the issues and concerns of our consumers while also providing them with options.”

“We should not limit ourselves to a month of energy consciousness. Our goal is to increase our people’s awareness about energy, and have them adopt a lifestyle change towards better energy choices every day,” he added.

In his keynote address, Secretary Cusi said, the DOE has been aggressive in formulating essential energy plans and implementing necessary programs to achieve the DOE’s nine-point agenda.

Sec. Cusi mentioned the DOE’s hosting of two international events: The Asia Cooperation Dialogue and 35th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and its Associated meetings, which became venues for gathering inputs locally and internationally to finalize the Energy Resiliency Policy.

Sec. Cusi also underscored the benefits of Executive Order No. 30 in expediting the processing of energy projects of national significance, including the Philippine Conventional Energy Program (PCEP) which promotes the development of coal and petroleum resources.

The DOE has been working towards the implementation of the Philippine Downstream Natural Gas Regulation, which will provide standardized guidelines on the natural gas industry.

"The DOE amended the Retail Rules for the downstream of the oil industry and issued the Code of Safety Practices for LPG Refilling Plants that will safeguard the interest of the public against the unscrupulous trading of petroleum products while providing regulations on emerging and expanding technologies in the retailing of liquid fuels," Cusi also emphasized.

Cusi further informed, "The DOE has also improved the standards for biodiesel blends for both automotive and industrial diesel oil, incorporating the Euro IV-Philippine grade which lowers sulfur content for cleaner emissions."

"As of November 2017, biofuels registered capacity already reached 857.02 million liters, derived from the 10 bioethanol and 11 biodiesel producers," he added.

The DOE Chief said that even with nearly 5,000 megawatts of installed renewable energy (RE) capacities, the DOE is continuously processing RE Service Contracts to push for cleaner and sustainable energy.

"There are a total of 193 applications RE Service Contracts as of November 2017."

"Further strengthening these efforts are DOE’s initiatives to issue policies towards renewable portfolio standards and green energy option, with both undergoing public consultations through the National Renewable Energy Board."

“These policies will not only boost RE utilization, but these will also be catalysts for sustainable development,” Cusi concluded.

KEYNOTE ADDRESS
Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi
National Energy Consciousness Month 2017
4 December 2017 at 9:00 a.m.
DOE Multi-Purpose Building
Energy Center, BGC, Taguig City

To our energy development partners, His Excellency –Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda, attached agencies (PNOC, PNOC-EC, PNOC-RC, NEA, NAPOCOR, NEA, TRANSCO, PSALM), members of the media, our fellow public servants and of course our Department of Energy family, officials and employees, guests, friends, ladies and gentlemen –Isang Mapagpalayang Umaga Sa Lahat! Good morning.

For 2017, the Department of Energy (DOE) has been aggressive in many aspects. We’ve formulated essential energy plans, implemented necessary programs, and communicated these to raise awareness on energy and its proper use. We actively engage with our energy stakeholders to foster stronger cooperation to achieve all our 9-point energy agenda. These efforts continuously build confidence in the energy industry and the consumers alike.

This year we’ve constantly highlighted our objective towards energy resiliency. We’ve echoed this paradigm shift to our international counterparts during our hosting of two international events: The Asia Cooperation Dialogue and 35th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting and its Associated meetings. We’ve discussed best practices and guidelines locally and internationally to gather inputs for the finalization of our Energy Resiliency Policy in improving our energy infrastructures and facilities.

We’ve also championed this year the policy that would advance energy development in the country. President Duterte issued the Executive Order No. 30 that entails creation of an Energy Investment Coordinating Council to expedite processing of Energy Projects of National Significance.

One of the beneficiaries of the EO No. 30 is the energy resource development industry. We are currently working on a new contracting and licensing program called Philippine Conventional Energy Contracting Program catering to coal and petroleum developments. This new program will provide flexibility to participants, attract quality of proposals thus bringing sizeable amount of investments, and an informed and empowered host communities. Ultimately, this will pave the way in achieving our goal towards energy independence and resilience.

Likewise, the DOE has been working towards the implementation of the Philippine Downstream Natural Gas Regulation. This will provide standardized guidelines in the accreditation, operation, maintenance of natural gas infrastructure and facilities as well as supply importation and transportation. This will also liberalize entry to the Natgas market and adherence of participants to international and Philippine health, safety, security and environment standards.

We also amended the Retail Rules for the downstream oil industry that will further safeguard the interest of the public against unscrupulous trading of petroleum products and provide regulation on emerging and expanding technologies in the retailing of liquid fuels. We are also keen on addressing safety concerns in the usage of LPG; hence we came up with the Code of Safety Practices for LPG Refilling Plant with the help of industry stakeholders.

With due regard to the environment, the DOE drafted and endorsed to DTI for issuance of our new Philippine National Standards on biodiesel blends for both automotive and industrial diesel oil. These new standards incorporate the Euro IV-Philippine grade which lowers sulfur content for cleaner emissions in accordance to the standard specifications under the Biofuels Act of 2006.

In pushing for cleaner and sustainable energy, the DOE is currently processing a total of 193 applications for RE Service Contracts as of November 2017 with a potential capacity of nearly 4,000 MW. Since RE law enactment, the RE projects now totaled to 877 or an equivalent of nearly 22,000 MW potential and nearly 5,000 MW installed capacities.

Further strengthening these efforts are DOE’s initiative to issue policies towards renewable portfolio standards and green energy option. Through the National Renewable Energy Board, we’ve done various public consultations around the country for the finalization of the two RE policies. These will not only boost RE utilization, but these will also be catalysts for sustainable development.

For the power sector, we have been rallying for the full implementation of Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) to give our consumers the power to choose their electricity suppliers. As such, I have recently signed the circulars for its immediate implementation. This is also complementary to the implementation of the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market in Mindanao.

We also never rest to energize our “kababayans” in off-grid areas or places. One of our concrete projects is the Nationwide Intensification of Household Electrification (NIHE), which energizes thousand far-off households using solar-powered systems. And above all, we will issue policies and guidelines on the Conduct of Performance Assessment and Audit for All Power Generation, Transmission and Distribution Systems and Facilities to improve performance of these industry participants.

We are also undertaking the path towards a smart grid Philippines. We already lay the ground by initiating the policy formulation for the said new venture in the power sector. These entails advance technologies to make the delivery of our service more cost-efficient and reliable.

Aside from providing stable and secured energy supply, we are also pushing for its smart utilization. Through smart technologies, we can broaden our consumers’ choices of better options for their energy usage. Smart technologies allow households and facilities to use energy more efficiently, reduce energy losses or even provide "greener" options in generating electricity.

Few months ago, the Japanese government has donated hybrid and electric cars to promote the use of efficient and environment-friendly transportation alternatives. And in a few minutes, we will be unveiling four (4) electric vehicles and four (4) plug-in hybrid electric vehicles as well as a charging station for the technology’s research and development. On behalf of the energy family and the Filipinos, Ambasssador Koji Haneda, Arigato Gozaimasu!

Now all of these efforts will not be felt if we won’t communicate them. In July we launched the “E-Power Mo” campaign at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) and mirrored this to the Visayas, Mindanao and recently in Central Luzon. The E-Power Mo is the Department of Energy’s campaign to empower and educate consumers on their options for wiser and more intelligent utilization of energy resources.

The E-Power Mo’s greater objective is to explain the various DOE programs and projects to Filipino energy consumers, by instilling the essence of energy safety, efficiency, security, resiliency and power of choice in their daily lives with the end purpose of making energy efficiency a way of life for all the Filipinos.

To my fellow public servants, I encourage you to continue working working for the people providing reliable, secure, sustainable and affordable energy. The public needs our dedication and commitment to ensure that no one is left behind and appropriately empowered to make their respective decisions on energy. Through this NECM, let us push further and let’s make things happen for the Filipino people.

Maraming salamat po!

How to Strengthen Brittle and Stratified Nails?

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Every woman wants her nails to be healthy and strong. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Read the article to learn how to strengthen brittle and stratified nails.

Healthy nails are a pink, hard, and smooth surface. Unfortunately, not everyone can boast of this. You may have stratified and brittle nails because of the following:
  • Metabolic disorders
  • Vitamin deficiency
  • Hormonal failure
  • Regular use of alcohol
  • Smoking
  • Frequent contact with detergents, acids, and alkalis
All household chemicals, paints, solvents badly affect the hands and nails. It is harmful to hold hands in water for a long time and use a poor-quality nail polish. What can you do to restore your nails’ health and beauty?

Washing Dishes and Moisturizing

Wear rubber gloves when washing dishes or doing any other housework. Before going outside, use sunscreen, which is applied not only to the hands, but also to the nails.

Do not forget about the moisture, without which the nails cannot do. Always keep a moisturizer close at hand. For example, you can put cream near the sink in the kitchen, then you certainly will not forget about it.

It is not recommended to constantly polish nails, you need to regularly take a break, giving your nails an opportunity to rest.

Proper Nutrition

To keep your nails healthy, you should eat right. Nutritionists advise to eat fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, and other foods rich in protein. Also, you need to drink plenty of water. Bananas, green beans, currants, and parsley will help replenish the deficit of silicon. There is not enough calcium (the building material of nails), you can easily lean on cabbage and nuts. If you suffer from the iron deficit, eat dried fruits, greens, eggs, and liver. From time to time it is necessary to take a complex of vitamins and minerals for growth and strengthening of nails.

If you suffer from stratification of nails, use olive oil. It is recommended to apply it to the nails several times a week at night, putting on cotton gloves. If you add a drop of lemon juice to the oil, it will help strengthen and brighten the nail plates. On uwritemyessay.com you will find more information about the proper nutrition that will help improve the health of your nails.

Baths

It is useful to make baths of sea salt. Keep fingertips for 20 minutes in such a solution several times a week. A bath of vegetable oil with a few drops of iodine and lemon juice will help you strengthen the brittle nails. Today, you can find a lot of hand care products. Any woman can easily pick something for herself.

Important Rules of Manicure

When having a manicure, follow these rules:

Use a nail file with a special coating, as the metal nail file exfoliates the nails and causes cracks.
  • File your nails only in one direction, from edge to center. If you do it the other way around, the nails will weaken, which will lead to cracks and breaks. The edges must be polished to avoid sharp edges.
  • Oval or semi-square shape will help avoid excessive brittleness.
  • The liquid for removing nail polish should be without acetone, since it dries the nail plate.
  • If you suffer from nail stratification, choose a polish with fibers of silk or nylon. There are also special nail polishes for strongly exfoliated nails, which contain minerals, vitamins, proteins, and moisturizers.
  • It is recommended to give your nails a rest from polish every five days.

Getting the Best Experience for Motorcycle Tours

Wazzup Pilippinas!

Motorcycle tours are extending far and wide. Clubs and associations - and also touring organizations and motorbike makers - offer bikers the chance to find the world. There is something exceptional about getting on two haggles the motor and also taking off for the brilliance of open street and cool winds.

Cost Effective - When you contrast the cost of motorcycle tours with different alternatives, you will see that it's quite reasonable. Despite the fact that there is an expectation to absorb information that you have to meet, it is basically, one of the most effortless alternatives to subsidize. If you need to go moderate, you can do that, if you need to accelerate and see what the motor can do, that is stood to you too. The reward versus cost proportion here is colossal, implying that your reward is substantially higher than the underlying expense.

Many guided tours offer tweaked varieties. Some enable you to incidentally take off alone and ride without the gathering. If you wish to do as such, the tour guides set up a settled upon time and area to come back to the gathering. Be that as it may, the aides will think about the area's beautiful focuses or shrouded pearls you need to see, so straying off without anyone else isn't the standard. One business tour bunch enables you to take your non-biking accomplice along. If your accomplice doesn't care for riding a motorbike, he or she can drive alongside the escort vehicle and offer every one of your enterprises that way.

Tips for a Successful Motorcycle Tour

Your bike
It sounds self-evident, yet you'd be astonished what number of individuals set off on a long tour without ensuring that their bicycle is in the most ideal condition it could be. Having your motorcycle adjusted before a long tour could spare days of despair, particularly if you are planning a trip abroad. In a few nations, carports aren't generally as inspired as you are with regards to recovering your bicycle out and about. Some of the time, the entire occasion can be taken up sitting tight for repairs. Remember to convey save knobs.

Your clothing

Ensure you have the correct dress. Indeed, even in summer a very long time there is a probability that mountain streets can be liable to severe climate. It could be forty degrees or it could be under ten, and it's a speculating diversion that you would be savvy to dodge. This is the point at which a guided tour with a gear conveying goes down vehicle makes its mark. Another preferred standpoint of a go down vehicle is the entrance to water if it becomes exceptionally hot.

More than five hundred people - including the US Ambassador to the Philippines, the Miss Universe 2015, top Filipino artists and fashion designers, dozens of government officials, and advocates across the country - attended the inaugural Love Gala on December 1 at the BGC Arts Center to commemorate World AIDS Day.

Love Gala is the first charity and awards event for HIV-AIDS awareness in the Philippines, and part of the proceeds from tickets sales and event-day donations will go to HIV-AIDS non-profits for their life-saving initiatives.

Aside from helping fund worthy organizations, Love Gala attendees witnessed powerful performances, a stunning fashion show, a sneak peek of groundbreaking HIV initiatives and the unveiling of the 10 winners of the first-ever Ripple Awards.

The US Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim showed his support and reiterated the call to unite in the fight against the rising epidemic. According to the latest data from the Department of Health, around 31 incidences of HIV infection are observed every day in the Philippines, making it one of the fastest-growing in Asia Pacific.

Groundbreaking HIV initiatives

The event also graced the presence of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, who launched her first HIV 101 educational video at the Love Gala and called on more people to make HIV testing a part of their health and wellness routine. She is concurrently the Love Gala Ambassador and UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific, and has been using her global popularity to shine a spotlight on the advocacy.

"Let us work together to normalize HIV testing, so that it’s viewed just like a regular medical check up. Because knowing our own HIV status is the first step in our battle to end AIDS," said Wurtzbach during the presentation of the HIV 101 video, which is part of her broader PIA, or Progressive Information Awareness project for raising awareness on HIV- and AIDS-related issues.

"This gala has shown me that there are so many people here who are confidently beautiful with a heart," she added. "Let this night strengthen our bond and commitment to battling HIV and AIDS in the Philippines, Asia, and—why not?—the Universe."

LoveYourself also launched a preview of #SafeSpacesPH, a condom distribution project that seeks to establish “safe spaces” where individuals can avail free condoms without fear of judgment or ridicule, and where they can also express themselves in an affirming environment.

Ripple Awards

The Love Gala also dedicated the night to honor the first-ever Ripple Awards winners, 10 brave individuals who have made a significant impact in spreading HIV-AIDS awareness, stopping the spread of the virus, and helping to fight the stigma suffered by their communities.

The 2017 Ripple Awards winners are: Faustine Luell ‘Paji’ Tupas Angeles, Sherwin Baniqued, M.A. Buendia, Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros-Baraquel, Jebsen Rederri Go Gamido, Enrique Tayag Katerina ‘Doc Kate’ Leyritana, Elena Felix, Roberto Figuracion, Angelina ‘Angie’ Mead King.

“The HIV epidemic can be won through greater awareness and education, and these Ripple Awards winners have used their voices and influence to spread the right messages to the people who need to hear them,” said Ronivin Pagtakhan, executive director of LoveYourself, one of the member organizations of the Love Gala organizing committee, and one of the judges of the Ripple Awards.

“Action is nothing without compassion, and this rings true in the HIV-AIDS advocacy. We see these winners have set the motion to bring positive, inclusive and systemic change in the communities they serve. Some of them have even risen from their own struggles to do good for others, which is all the more inspiring,” he added.

DOE E-Power Mo Pushes Smart Energy Techs

Wazzup Pilipinas!

E-POWER MO - Empowering Consumers Towards an Energy Smarter Power System: DOE Assistant Secretary Redentor Delola promotes efficient use of emerging "smart" energy technologies during the E-Power Mo Conference at Fontana Leisure Park Clark, Pampanga held Wednesday (29 November). E-Power Mo is part of the DOE's campaign to disseminate the government's key messages on energy to consumers which includes E-Safety Mo, E-Secure Mo and E-Diskarte Mo.

The Department of Energy (DOE) emphasized on Wednesday (29 November) the need for the efficient utilization of energy as well as its conservation during the last leg of its E-Power Mo campaign for this year here.

Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi, through Asec. Rendentor Delola, said that the DOE outlined strategic objectives anchored on security, affordability and sustainability of energy in the country.

“Efficiency and the customers’ power of choice could be effectively be realized through the use of ‘energy smart technologies,’" Delola stressed.

Smart energy technologies promote efficient energy use, reduced energy cost and “greener” energy options to households and energy sectors, he added.

The DOE official said that the use of these technologies are in line with the DOE’s E-Power Mo campaign which seeks to empower consumers to make better options in energy utilization.

Energy-smart technologies available in the market conform with best environment practices for industries, as well as ensure energy efficiency in government buildings.

“We are eyeing High Efficiency Motors (HEMs) to lower energy cost, lower the life cycle cost, bring higher profitability and lower greenhouse gas emissions,” said Asec. Delola.

Aside from HEMs, other smart energy technologies are efficient pumps, cutting-edge solar photovoltaic systems, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), efficient cooling systems, advanced energy monitoring and controlling technologies, and battery/energy storage products.

In a move to further promote greener technology options, the DOE is also pursuing the expansion of the usage of electric vehicles.

The DOE is already implementing the Government Energy Management Systems (GEMS).

“This program aims to reduce the government’s monthly energy consumptions by at least 10% from 2005 consumption levels,” Delola stated.

Around 500 participants attended the various and series of discussions during the E-Power Mo Energy Smart Utilization Forum and Stakeholders Conference. Attendees include a range of stakeholders from energy efficiency and conservation, local government, non-govenment organizations, consumer groups, power, renewable energy, oil and gas industry players, the academe and the media, among others.

“The DOE will continue to empower consumers and promote a ‘whole of nation’ approach in efficient energy utilization to enable the country globally compete,” Delola concluded
