Lazada Online Sellers Expected to Triple Profits this Christmas Season

In a recently released study on holiday shopping, Lazada ranked as the go to shopping website for Filipinos. Since its inception in 2012, Lazada Philippines has grown to become the leading online shopping and selling destination in the country.

“Lazada is the only viable way to build a scalable e-commerce business in the Philippines. We are fundamentally changing the way people do business." says Inanc Balci, Lazada Philippines CEO. "Together with our sellers, Lazada is proud to lead the way in empowering more customers and changing the shopping landscape in the Philippines through our technology-driven platform.”

With over 10 million ecommerce buyers today, Mr. Balci believes that the Philippines can be the online shopping capital of the world. With an additional 63 million active Facebook users, Lazada has a huge consumer base to fuel seller growth.

More than 12,000 active sellers have already found sustainability and success on Lazada’s platform. These sellers, offering a wide assortment of products (electronics, fashion, home & living, health and beauty among a few) now reach customers in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

Isaac Saliendra, one of Lazada’s sellers, shared his success story: “At the age of 19, I started selling fashion bags on Lazada. Four years later, this remains to be my main source of income. Lazada gave me tools I needed to realize my dreams of becoming my own boss in a mobile-driven world."

“Lazada is the great equalizer. New York Sneakers, which is a purely digital store has been able to compete with top local and multinational shoe brands on the platform” said Tracie Lyn Artificio, a proud Lazada merchant.

More power to sellers, more value to customers

Last October 6, a conference for sellers was held to officially launch the biggest shopping event of the year – Online Revolution. With the theme “Shop the Universe,” Lazada executives shared business strategies and tools for sellers to make the most out of the month-long shopping event.

This year's Online Revolution, from November 9 to December 12, expects to double the visits from last year’s record, with an expected 150 million visits. Best of all, sales uplift for sellers are expected to triple last year’s performance.

Sellers can make the most out of this time by utilizing new tools to grow their business. Lazada will be launching its Seller Revolution program on October 10. Entrepreneurs can join an online sign-up caravan where new sellers will get free marketing mileage during Online Revolution as well as other seller perks.

Buyer’s Guide to Finding the Right Oven for Your Modern Kitchen

Beko introduces safe, smart features to cook your meals

Ovens are must-haves in any modern kitchen. Their innovative functions and features only not ensure that meals are made quickly, efficiently and safely but that these appliances make your kitchen attractive as well.

According to Dyeun Zapanta, Sales and Marketing Head of Beko Philippines, today’s modern kitchen is all about the efficiency, sleek design, and functionality of your appliances. As most of us spend some time and effort preparing meals for the family, it is important to find the right cooker that can address your very specific needs.

To help you find the right choice, Beko, one of the Europe’s largest and most popular appliance brands, listed some of key things to consider when buying a new oven.
 Size and Capacity
If you are re-designing your kitchen or thinking of upgrading your built-in cooker, the size and capacity should be the first things you should consider. This factor is important since there are different kinds of oven sizes to choose from.

For instance, if you need an oven to carry out most of your everyday cooking, the built-in Single Ovens are the ideal cooker for you. With their 60cm height, you can place them anywhere in your kitchen. This oven is also perfect for families who don’t have enough kitchen space for double ovens but still want to get the benefits of capacity cookers. Beko’s range of single ovens come in 65L to extra-large 82L capacities.

However, not all kitchens are spacious so if yours isn’t, Beko’s Compact Ovens can be the ideal option. With its 45cm height, you can place it in between your cabinet columns without taking much of the space. This cooker is just the right size and has a 40L capacity

If you happen to have a large kitchen, Beko’s Double Ovens are the best choice especially if you like preparing multiple dishes at once. These ovens can be built-in to your kitchen’s cabinet columns. It comes in a 72cm and 90cm height model and its double oven capacities are also great for multiple cooking with its 48L and 65L capacity, respectively.

 Type
After deciding on the size and capacity, it’s time to think about which type of oven you need. There are three types of ovens to choose from namely, conventional, fan, and multi-functional ovens.

Conventional ovens are ideal for traditional home cooks. This type of oven allows for a conventional-style of cooking since the heat comes from the top and bottom heating elements and does not have a fan to circulate the heat.

Fan ovens, on the other hand, are best for baking or if you often cook dishes that require even temperature. With fan ovens, the heat is distributed evenly throughout the entire cooking compartment using either single or multiple fans.

And if you’re a home cook who enjoys experimenting with different cooking methods, the Multi-function oven is right for you. It can be used for grilling, defrosting, or baking and with more functions, you can cook any dish you like.

Easy-to-clean feature

Another feature you should consider is the self-cleaning feature. While you may enjoy cooking, let’s face it, cleaning the oven after using it can be a hassle.

Beko integrated self-cleaning features in its line-up of cookers to help cut your cleaning time. Its Pyrolytic Self Cleaning™ and SimplySteam Cleaning™ features clean away unwanted dirt, germs and food debris quickly and thoroughly so you spend more time with your family and less time cleaning up.

The 120-minute Pyrolytic Self-cleaning cycle function helps burn stubborn stains into a fine ash by safely heating your oven to 500 °C. The ash can then be simply wiped away with a piece of cloth, without the need of any detergents or chemicals. For ovens that are not too dirty ovens, you can use the shorter 90-minute eco-pyrolytic cycle. The 90-minute cycle saves 25 percent of energy consumption.

Some Beko ovens also have the SimplySteam Cleaning™ technology that cleans using steam. After using, simply remove the accessories, pour some water into the tray and place it at the bottom level of the cooker. Then, set the operation knob to start the steam cleaning process. Once the cycle is done, you can now wipe away all the dirt inside using a clean cloth.

Extra features

The last factor that you should consider when buying an oven is the range of extra features that come with it. Beko’s line-up of ovens offer a handful of modern and practical features, such as the Split&Cook feature that allows you to split the oven into two separate cooking zones so you can have two different temperatures without mixing the scents and flavors of your dishes; the Multi-Dimensional Cooking feature that cooks evenly and efficiently through the use of multiple dishes that traps its own supply of hot air enabling you to cook homogeneously and with maximum efficiency; and Safety features such as Gas Safety and Flame Failure that automatically cut off the gas flow when the fire is accidentally extinguished by the wind or any liquid, thereby, preventing gas leakage.

Zapanta further said, “Beko has since innovated numerous features for our cooker line-up. This is our way to ensure that you can take advantage of all the latest technologies that make every day cooking a truly enjoyable experience.”

Strengthening its local presence in the country, Beko Philippines continues to penetrate the Filipino market. Since 2015, the company already doubled its distribution, as well as tripled its sales through an enhanced and domineering product line that continuously meets the demands of the consumers.

Govt, Stakeholders Conduct Bored Pile Concrete Pouring at MRT 7 Batasan Station

The Department of Transportation (DOTr), Quezon City government, and various stakeholders conducted today the first bored pile concrete pouring at the Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT7) Batasan station in Quezon City.

Expected to be completed and operational by early 2020, the MRT7 project will service over 400,000 passengers in Metro Manila and nearby provinces of Bulacan and Rizal.

DOTr officials led by Undersecretary for Administration and Finance Garry de Guzman, Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Procurement Reinier Paul Yebra and Assistant Secretary for Communications Leah Quiambao attended the event, along with other officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

Quezon City 2nd District Representative Winnie Castelo, Councilor Precious Hipolito-Castelo, and several local barangay officials also attended the ceremony along Commonwealth Avenue.

In her speech, Asec. Quiambao recognized the relentless efforts of the Duterte administration in seeing the project completion to serve thousands of commuters.

“Ang MRT 7 ay magserserbisyo ng 420,000 na pasahero araw-araw,” she said.

Meanwhile, Cong. Castelo acknowledged concerned government agencies and project proponents, such as San Miguel Corp. (SMC) and EEI Construction Inc., calling to facilitate the completion of the project. He hopes that MRT 7 would be inaugurated before his term in office ends in 2019.

“The future of Quezon City depends on big infrastructure projects of the national government as this one,” he said.

For his part, SMC representative Raoul Romulo appealed to the public affected by the ongoing construction along the stretch of Commonwealth Avenue to be more patient as they work to finish the project that would eventually ease traffic congestion in Quezon City.

The MRT-7 would have 22 kilometers of rail transit system starting from North Avenue EDSA in Quezon City to San Jose del Monte in Bulacan. It would be connected with LRT-1, MRT-3, and the Metro Manila Subway via the Common Station, which would be located between SM North EDSA and Trinoma mall.

E-Commerce Sector at Risk of ‘Lethal’ DDoS Attacks this 2017

A tough road is expected for businesses that rely on digital technology this year as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks continue to evolve, according to a report cited by IPC, a local cloud pioneer and the only DDoS mitigation service provider in the country with a local attack scrubbing facility.

The worldwide study conducted by IPC’s DDoS Mitigation partner Nexusguard revealed a 380% increase in frequency of attacks in the first quarter of 2017. “More than 16,600 attacks were recorded during the first quarter, with notable ones being an enormous 275Gbps attack that took place during Valentine’s Day and a lengthy attack spanning 4,060 minutes which occurred during the Chinese New Year,” said Juniman Kasman, Chief Technology Officer of Nexusguard.

Additionally, the study shows that the percentage of days with large attacks also grew substantially. “The percentage of days with sizeable attacks (larger than 10Gbps) grew considerably between January (48.39%) and March (64.29%),” added Kasman.

For Dave De Leon, IPC’s Chief Operating Officer, the rising complexity of DDoS attacks can adversely affect companies who utilize digital means for business. “Online businesses have much to lose from going offline due to DDoS attacks. The ecommerce industry is a very vulnerable sector because operations rely heavily on the Internet. One successful attack can lead to huge financial losses. If you factor in the risk of losing customers, then we might be talking about millions.”

Online transactions paralyzed
During a DDoS attack, cybercriminals flood a website with traffic coming from numerous requests in order to overwhelm its server. Due to the staggering amount of incoming traffic, the server is unable to support it and eventually crashes. Its main objective is to prevent users — both customers and the staff of the company — from accessing the site. To put it plainly, DDoS attacks knock perfectly healthy websites offline by overwhelming them.

The threat of evolving DDoS attacks is at a pivotal moment where the practice of online shopping is growing at an exponential rate, as revealed in an eMarketer study that forecasts a global e-commerce market amounting to $2.290 trillion this year. IPC believes that this growth will further attract criminals to launch more attacks.

“An inaccessible website is possibly the worst scenario any e-commerce company could experience. Aside from not being able to conduct business, their reputation is also at stake since an ongoing attack can disrupt the shopping experience of customers. If not remedied, irate customers will eventually choose other sites.” said De Leon. “As a solution, we urge online sellers to find a DDoS mitigation provider that can fend off large-scale attacks and assure them of a stable connection amidst these online disasters.”

Together with partner Nexusguard, IPC’s Premium DDoS Mitigation solution ensures business continuity in light of DDoS attacks. The company’s DDoS Mitigation experts employ GRE (Generic Route Encapsulation) Tunnel solutions that easily and constantly avert any incoming malicious traffic that can take down a website. Round-the-clock monitoring of the network is also part of the service, as a way to quickly implement security measures in the event of an attack.

“DDoS Mitigation should be an essential part of an e-commerce company’s cybersecurity strategy. DDoS attacks are specialized threats designed to bring down a company’s website. It all boils down to how much an hour or a day of downtime will cost you. If you can’t even begin to imagine the losses, then it’s time to talk to a DDoS Mitigation expert,” said De Leon.

Siemens Sees Potential in Digitalization of Philippines’ Food and Beverage Industry

Digitalization presentation on F&B industry by Roland Heymann, Head of Global Food and Beverage, Technical Account Management, Siemens Germany

At the full-day seminar on “Digitalization of the Food and Beverage Industry in the Philippines” held by Siemens last month, a team of global experts from the company showcased their technological expertise to current and potential customers in Philippines’ F&B industry.

Through interactive presentation sessions, Siemens presented how industry players can discover the potential of digitalization in food and beverage industry. Topics covered include “Digitalization - The future of manufacturing in Food and Beverage” and Standardization – Set the pace for digitalization in Food and Beverage”. There was also a live demonstration to showcase how companies can “Reduce downtimes and cost with transparent operation”, where Siemens used the example of the dairy industry to demonstrate how both process and discrete workflows in the food and beverage industry can benefit from digitalization. Factors typically affecting the dairy industry are high cost sensitivity and mass production on the one hand, coupled with the growing diversity of available flavors and innovative packaging concepts on the other.

“We’ve been working with a number of global food and beverage players and learned from them about their demands and specific trends in the market. In order to respond to these needs, we are adapting our digital enterprise software suite accordingly and are implementing these functions into our applications, our solutions, and our products. While doing so, we aim to bring those solutions to anywhere in the world that has major expansions and investments ongoing for the food and beverage industry, to give all regions and specifically the Philippines an equal and fair chance to leverage our learnings,” shared Roland Heymann, Head of Global Food and Beverage, Technical Account Management, Siemens Germany.

Digitalization the Food and Beverage in Industry in the Philippines

The F&B industry in the Philippines is a highly competitive one, and it is expected to amount to approximately US$26 million in revenue this year. For manufacturers in the industry, operating productive production facilities requires many factors for consideration, including a consistently high level of product quality, maximum plant availability, optimum resource efficiency – and, increasingly, the greatest possible flexibility in order to meet more and more individual customer requirements.

Additionally, about 1.3 billion tonnes of food – which is about a third of all that is produced – around the world is wasted due to factors such as poor equipment, transportation and infrastructure, rejection due to aesthetics, and over purchase. The supply chain has to be more agile to allow companies to produce the right amount of products to cater to consumer demands, at the right time and at the right location.

Mastering all these challenges today and in the future is possible only with digitalization. Digitalization is the interaction of the virtual and real world. It is a major trend and innovation driver, creating completely new business and growth opportunities for companies. Digitalization of the entire value chain is crucial for catching new trends and ensuring competitiveness.

This is particularly important for the Philippines, as the country is growing rapidly in terms of population and production capacities. Digitalization would lay the foundation of how the local food and beverage industry will perform in the next few years and be able to compete with other countries in the region.

The digitalization of the manufacturing industry, which is also known as “Industrie 4.0”, is a topic of global interest.

Siemens offers the products and solutions required fully or gradually integrate and digitalize the entire value chain. The Digital Enterprise Suite is Siemens’ answer to Industrie 4.0, and it enables manufacturing companies to streamline and digitalize their entire business process, seamlessly integrating suppliers into the mix. They can begin at any point of their value chain, from product design to service, and can extend digitalization gradually, depending on their current needs.

With the Digital Enterprise Suite, Siemens offers a comprehensive portfolio of software-based systems specifically for the discrete industries. It integrates and digitalizes the complete value chain from Product Design, Production Planning, Production Engineering, Production Execution to Services. The result of the integration and digitalization of the complete value chain is a perfect digital copy of the value chain – the Digital Twin. This enables companies to perform simulation, testing, and optimization in a completely virtual world – before ever committing any resources in the real world. The connection of the virtual and real worlds leads to shorter time-to-market as well as greater flexibility, quality, and efficiency.

Enrico Buergo, Vice President and Country Division Lead, Siemens Philippines, said,Digitalization is an integral part of the industrial revolution. You have this shift coming, it’s about the analysis, integration and standardization. We’re bringing it here to kick-start a very vibrant market which is food and beverage... and we really want to use it as a way for each company to achieve whatever it is they are aspiring and not to be left in the game.”

“The future is always in motion,” explains Alexander Grimm, Head of Food and Beverage ASEAN, Siemens Singapore, during the beginning of his presentation session. “Digitalization itself, it’s a thing which is in movement. It’s a continuous development.” He later explains in detail how customers have become more discerning in terms of the wants, and how digitalization in production can address these needs at the quicker and more precise way.

Present in the seminar were key officials of Siemens from both the regional and global headquarters including Enrico Buergo, Vice President and Country Division Lead, Siemens Philippines;  Alexander Grimm, Head of Food and Beverage ASEAN, Siemens Singapore; Roland Heymann, Head of Global Food and Beverage, Technical Account Management, Siemens Germany; Christopher Roppelt, Key Expert for Food and Beverage Automatic Concepts, Siemens Germany; and Lito Torres, Head of Factory and Automation, Siemens Philippines.

As part of the company’s commitment to the F&B industry in the Philippines, Siemens will be offering a two-day workshop that would showcase in detail products and technology that can be personalized and applied to their operating processes. The workshop will be conducted by product specialists and will be at no cost to participants of the seminar. Those who are interested can get in touch with their Siemens representative.

Tahigami Music by Datu Arellano on 10 October 2017

The Cultural Center of the Philippines is proud to present the cross-media work of artist-musician Datu Arellano in a solo exhibition entitled Tahigami Music. It will open at 6pm on Tuesday, 10 October at the CCP’s Bulwagang Fernando Amosrolo (Small Gallery).

Tahi is the Filipino word for stitch and gami (kami) is Japanese for paper. Combined they form Tahigami, a word the artist made up, which means stitching on paper. Datu Arellano began Tahigami as a method of drawing. After a few years in development, tahi to him is about connecting, discovering common threads, finding intersections and meaning, forming relationships. Gami (kami) may as well be any conceptual or actual surface, ground, or plane, and not limited to paper. From an obsession with a three-sided polygon that began in 2011, the series has evolved into a framework for creating visual and musical compositions.

The Tahigami Music exhibit in the CCP will be composed of three main works, "3-Blossom Automata", "Supercluster No. 3" and the "Tahigami Music Videos, Series 1 and 2." The piece in the center of the gallery sets the tone of the exhibition, set-up so that the audience is invited to sit in the middle of the installation to listen and contemplate. Surrounding them are three digital musicians (computers), "3-Blossom Automata", programmed to play endless and unpredictable melodies generated from the geometry of the blossoms assigned to them. "Supercluster No. 3", on the left side of the gallery, is a work of thread on canvas, with electronics. One side has the ordered, intentional (although semi-random), and conscious. The other side exhibits the chaotic, accidental, and subconscious. Finally, "Tahigami Music Videos, Series 1 and 2" is a series of 6 videos from earlier incarnations of the series, first began in 2014. These videos demonstrate the basic premise/concept of Tahigami Music and show how the artist first made the musical compositions, and then interpreted them visually.

Tahigami Music will be on view from 10 October to 10 December 2017. Viewing hours are from Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm, or until 10pm on days with evening performances in the CCP Main Theater.

For more information, contact the CCP Visual Arts and Museum Division at (632) 832-1125 loc. 1504/1505 and (632) 8323702, mobile (0917) 6033809, email ccp.exhibits@gmail.com, or visit www.culturalcenter.gov.ph.

Yamaha Grand Prix 8 Finals Results

The Yamaha Grand Prix 8 Finals wasn't your usual Championship race. For the first time since its inception, the riders will battle it out in the bright lights of Rizal Park. The national site became an arena where legends are made. As if the heavens favored this historic match, the track was blessed with rainfall as if to baptize the start of the battle. The competing lineup featured the daunting presence of “The Chairman” Masato Fernando and Rising Star Kyle Paz, Powerhouses Vingie Coloma and Mcdon Sande, Racetrack highlight reels Ephraim Onahon and Gian Carlo Mauricio, just to name a few. The best riders from Luzon,Visayas, and Mindanao; went all out to prove who was truly legendary.

New to the race is the Yamaha Sight, the latest product of the World Class motorcycle manufacturer that was built for excellent performance through efficiency and simplicity. The inaugural category had its fair share of thrills with each competitor barely edging out the other using the performance F.I. technology of Yamaha. Gian Carlo Mauricio had the honor of bagging the first Championship of the category.

The Fun Race AT category was no different, where a heated battle took place in every corner. The automatic icon, Yamaha Mio, delivered as much as the riders could and it resulted in a breathtaking battle. In the end, Kenneth Coronel managed to break off the pack and never looked back. The 160 Open AT became an acceleration free-for-all, the larger custom track allowed the riders to go full power. It was a neck and neck race between Miko Montano and Aljon Valencia, with Allan Dela Cruz at striking distance of the two leaders but only one could dominate at the finish line.

The Underbone fun race was enjoyable but that didn’t make it any less competitive. It started as entertaining but developed into a fiery clash. Gary Taplador, Mark Kian Santos, and Joey Villaester starred in an encounter of fuel injected artistry.

The Vega Force i category was a show of true force. Each rider embodied precision and powered through adversity. Masato Fernando entered the race as the dominant favorite but he did not remain unchallenged as he went up against two worthy adversaries in Mcdon Dave Sande and Vingie Coloma. This heavyweight matchup did not disappoint and the crowd went wild as they went toe to toe until the chequered flag.

The Sniper 150 is the King of Street and only the best can claim the throne. It was a battle royale with each rider clawing for the crown. It was a three way masterpiece among Ephraim Onahon, Garry Caneda, and Durraine Dan Carlos. Each turn was a testament to their skill and will to win.

When it was all said and done only a few remained with the right to walk up the podium and raise their hard earned trophies. As confetti fell from the sky, the crowd was looking at their newly minted Yamaha Team Pilipinas and each spot taken wasn’t given but earned on the racetrack. The Yamaha Grand Prix 8 may have ended but for these racers, it’s the beginning of an even greater challenge; taking the Philippines to the next level of global racing dominance.
